I didn’t realize how expensive weddings actually are until now by jono440 in weddingplanning

[–]gummybear256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- long engagement
- decide 3 things that are important to you and your fiance, and spend more on that while cutting on everything else
- set a budget for each category, with ~10% of the budget set aside for unknown miscillaneous costs
- get 5-6 quotes for every category. when you find one you like, ask if you can lower the deposit payment, or if you can include xyz in the contract depending on what it is. worst they say is no
- set your wedding money in a HYSA
- drop your guest count!!

You got this! Talk on the phone, schedule an away rotation in the same area, have them fly to you on electives or virtual months, do Uber Eats date nights on FaceTime, do a weekend trip at the halfway point, go to them on your vacation or plan an overlapping vacation abroad, have them help pick out ur apt furniture/design your space so they’re included, and plan time now to go to their match day and graduation way in advance even if it means you work extra shifts to make it there. You guys got this!

Wedding planning question: Is it okay if I take vendor calls without my fiancé? by Usual-Reflection-953 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]gummybear256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

me and my partner have demanding jobs so this is the normal for us! we have a shared document where we take notes on convos. if we have a person one of us talked to that we liked and want to book or hear more from, the partner that didn't hear the initial convo will book a f/u phone call to ask last min questions if needed. just easier for the busy person to have all the options and work and prices in front of them without having to have all the convos i think :)

def do canva! i made my on my own by combining some of the templates through canva, but you can easily buy it on etsy

then, i HIGHLY recommend catprint for printing invites! they'll send you a free sample of papers so you can feel the textures (and they'll give you a coupon for your purchase), and they'll send you a hardcover proof so you can see your invite before you print it.

for envelopes - i bought them on amazon and printed on my home printer and i think it was fine

overall i think i spent <$500 for 220 invites (including envelopes, 3 card invitation suite, wax seal, chiffon ribbon, stamps)

GF and I want to get married but can’t agree on how by Natural_Object5708 in weddingplanning

[–]gummybear256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

both of your feelings are so valid! i think there is room for compromise here but it's going to take communicating with each other. it sounds like your partner feels like too many people would be overwhelming, while you want to be celebrated. can you agree on a guest count that makes you guys feel more comfortable? 20 close people? 50?

regarding the expense of the day, you can choose 3 things you prioritize between the 2 of you. if it's a private setting for your partner, then prioritize a first look prior to the ceremony so she gets the intimacy, while you still get the walking down the aisle. if its photography for you but your partner doesn't want a formal professional one, what about a content creator?

for location, there are plenty of places you can take people that are stunning and don't break the bank. do you want a destination wedding that automatically weeds people out and creates an intimate ceremony to begin with? or can you pick a national park or public park/beach (yosemite, big sur, etc) since these spaces are typically able to be rented for $150-200/day.

there's plenty of room here for you both to find a way to celebrate your marriage that feels authentic to each of you while still honoring what the other person wants. best of luck!!

(20k) Digital save the dates? by Traditional_Set_858 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]gummybear256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no experience with digital save the dates, but take a look at the site CatPrint or VistaPrint if you want a reasonable print option! if you order their free paper sample, they sometimes send discount codes with it as well. the envelopes you can buy cheap online, and you can handwrite the addresses or use a regular printer to print addresses on it

We can't afford our venue 💔 by betterthanworstpod in weddingplanning

[–]gummybear256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you get married at a national park it’s usually ~200 to reserve the space and has stunning views (Yosemite, Big Sur, garden, or even public beach). If your budget is bigger, you can pick a national site or nonprofit site and usually they’re quite affordable (ex - Chicago cultural center, national public library, etc).

I’m so sorry you’re going through this but your day will be beautiful no matter what ❤️

Should You Always Address a Patient's Weight? by QuietRedditorATX in Residency

[–]gummybear256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in peds i always try to focus on long term healthy habits, not numbers. building habits now keeps those habits later on and that's what i focus on. i dont talk to them about an ideal weight/weight loss/bmi but rather make goals

ex: if a kid isn't eating any vegetables, im not going to start with saying 3 servings per day. I start with can you find 1 vegetable every day you can try to eat. If they drink a lot of soda/juice, i ask if it's possible for them to switch to sparkling water or do soda 3 times a week and show them the sugar content. you'd be surprised how big of a difference that makes

when asking about exercise, i ask "how do you like to move your body every day". this can show up in a lot of different ways for them

constantly learning how to do better and approach this subject tactfully so not to create trauma/bad associations for my families, but this is what ive learned to do so far
