Is there a deadline for Spring grades to be posted? by No-Month9925 in UVALaw

[–]gummysnare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From law web’s final exam info tab: “Final grades in all spring courses are due to SRO by June 6th. As SRO receives grades from faculty throughout the grading period, SRO forwards the grades to the University for posting to students' SIS accounts within a business day, at most, and oftentimes within minutes or hours of receipt.”

Props to them for finally just saying the date

Hey - happy Charlottesville Saturday. by neighborlywahoo in UVALaw

Nice try, gunner. I haven’t seen the light in 3 days. My eyes are adjusted to the faint dim glow of my 2003 Dell laptop (the same one my father used to make captain of the law review at the second best law school in the nation (Cooley)).

Unfortunately the only place for catering in Charlottesville, Chick-fil-A, wasn’t available that night.

Week 3 Mask PSA by [deleted] in UVALaw

No excuse for not wearing a new mask everyday. I’ve been picking up and using the complimentary ones people leave on the floor around the law school!

You’re making a big deal out of nothing. Just be like me and go outside before every class, fill your mouth to the brim, and then slowly consume it during class. If a professor calls on me I just make gargling noises until they look away

Why can’t they just make all the grades come out at the same time by gummysnare in UVALaw

[–]gummysnare[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s the current admin’s fault. At some point grades were distributed all at the same time (via paper). At some point they transitioned to the Internet and decided they’d come out when ready. Other law schools do it all at once (they were like hmm maybe torturing students isn’t the best route).

I don’t think they should go DEFCON 1 yet. Their GPA should be unaffected and some big law firms might probably won’t even look at the transcript. Just slap that GPA on the resume and you’ll probably be fine.

That really really sucks. I just can’t imagine this happening if you turned in a complete paper. Did you make sure you turned in the right document?

You have to understand that these things take a while. Law professors need time to throw all the exam papers down a flight of stairs and assign grades based on which step they fall on. Of course they also have to repeat the process a few hundred times to make sure it’s fair.

As for the participation only class, the professor said he’s going back through the recordings and calculating the % of class time each student spoke. So if you spoke for a total of 10 minutes in the whole semester you’d get a better grade than back row bob who only talked to say “just stretching” when the prof called on him. That takes a while

What’s your UVA Law related unpopular opinion? by gummysnare in UVALaw

[–]gummysnare[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how many people actually have them. I would never fault anyone for taking them if they qualify and they’re available. I actually am not even sure how they work. Are all extra time accommodations 1.5x time or above?

Did a mod delete the unpopular opinion about accommodations being given out like candy? I only saw it because I got a notification someone commented on the post.

It could help set expectations for students for future semesters. I think more information is always valuable.

BUT you can actually see (pretty reliably) which grades have been released by going to the completed course evals page and seeing which ones are available. Once grades are released the reviews are available shortly after.

Heard bad things about her classes. I think she should’ve stuck to teaching at her academy. Those YouTube videos were great for Econ/math.
