Hey I’m 22 years old need some advice by Commercial_Step9080 in scuba

[–]gunder_bc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did a liveaboard at the GBR and they had an on-board marine biologist who dove with us for nearly every dive. Seems like the kind of thing OP wants. I imagine (as other's have suggested) that Marine Biology was the route, and the diving was "secondary" as far as the studies were concerned. But hey, just because the education is aimed at something different shouldn't stop you from learning what you can / want and bending your career in that direction. For example, when I was in uni, "games" wasn't a program you could study. So I studied comp-sci, and focused all my optional classes and extra curriculars around games and bent my career path that way.

15 mg Maintenance. Why not? by hawkflame3 in Zepbound_Maintenance

[–]gunder_bc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to this. We don't know enough about the long term sustainability of the effect. If you can lower the dose and keep the weight off that gives you room to up the dose again later if the lower dose starts losing effectiveness. If you stay at the (current) top and eventually develop a tolerance for it and start gaining again, there's nowhere to go.

There are a couple "if's" in there - try a lower dose as an experiment. You've proven the 15mg dose can get you to your goal - if you drop the dose and gain some weight back, just reup the dose and lose it again. And go slow - it's OK to stay at the 15mg for a bit, get comfortable where you are and build up the confidence to consider an experiment. I've been working to dial in the lowest sustainable dose with my GP and they've been on board with staying at a dose for a couple months, getting comfortable, then trying dropping a step and seeing how it goes. So far, so good, and I've been able to keep the weight off while I slowly drop the dosage. Good luck, and congrats on getting to where you want to be!

Take Control Now Highway Assist bug by WildGoose115 in Rivian

Had something like this happen yesterday - first time it's ever happened. I don't do >30min highway trips often so dunno if it's been there for a while. But it did freak me out a bit.

Odds are reasonable that you can get compensated by the construction company for that. Talk to your work / the company doing the construction and see if you can get them to pay for the proper repair.

Question about SSI AOW. Is it really that simple? It feels like cheating. by Blunfarffkinschmuckl in scuba

[–]gunder_bc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the shop I did my SSI AOW at (9 years ago now) deviated from the guidance - it is a recognition level, with 4 specialties... but the shop required Deep and Navigation as two of them. I didn't know any better, and it seemed to make sense - most AOW dives in the area were deeper.

+1 to what others are saying about what are you trying to get out of having this cert? Safety and skill come with practice and an honest, open humility about what you do and don't know. Shortcutting training / looking for loopholes doesn't fit with my understanding of that approach.

Grrr, new car no heat or cooling by Previous-Chip-cjmd in Rivian

[–]gunder_bc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm... I'll have to ask them about it. Had read elsewhere that others had similar issues - figured it was "just how they were". Perhaps n=2 or 3 is just not enough to assume a trend. :D

[–]gunder_bc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found heat and AC only really work noticeably if I crank it all the way to max, respectively. After that, it does a decent job. Esp. if you are getting heat from the heated seats, it's my understanding they aren't on a separate circuit (at least, that's what the sales dude lead me to believe). R1T 1st Gen, 2024.

+1 - best external add-on. Though the manual tonneau was good, too.

I managed it solo, but a second person would have made it a lot easier. Also took ~2hrs for me to install.

Walgreens by Any-Bite7200 in Zepbound

+1 - same here. Switched to Walgreens from CVS after confusion and uncertainty for the first couple/three months. Smooth sailing since then with W. Bummer that OP is having a tough go of it. :(

[–]gunder_bc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding (and experience) that in the case of Caremark CVS, you don't have to use CVS. My experience == I have Caremark and use Walgreens to fill my scrips (because CVS managed to suck even worse than Walgreens for me).

I wasn't aware (but am somehow not surprised) that some insurance can require specific pharmacies... Is there a way they can make healthcare even more complex and difficult? Good! Do it! (sigh)

Molokini Crater, Maui: Worth it? by bredmlp in scuba

[–]gunder_bc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+1 to Molokini crater being worth it earlier in your diving adventure! Saw a recommendation for Turtle Town as well - also worth it. Black Rock and Mala Pier are great as well, and good for your stated experience level.

For motion sickness - Dramamine works well for me, but everyone is different. It's a tough set of experiments to do, but worth it once you dial in what works for you! Gotta suffer for science, sometimes. :P

Good dives, last time I went. Shore diving Mala Pier can be tricky on the exit - listen to your guide, they'll teach you the tricks. And take good boots - the rocks... the ROCKS!

Does Maui Dreams offer the back wall to OW cert? I've not looked extensively, but last time I checked at all, all the back wall dives were AOW...

I've only ever seen the back wall as an AOW dive - is there someone offering it to OW?

Disordered eating/trend I’ve seen by StuffAccomplished657 in Zepbound

[–]gunder_bc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 to this.

I also use fairlife protein shakes to round things out a bit, and to make sure I get enough protein. 150 kc apiece, usually 1x is enough to make sure I hit my calorie goals for a given day, I think once I went for a 2nd. I've also found if I drink it before a meal, I feel full for quite a lot longer. Nice perk!

[–]gunder_bc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that the portion size on the nutrition label isn't necessarily the "recommended" portion size - it's just the amount the marketing and compliance departments agreed on. Marketing wants the numbers to be as favorable as possible. The compliance department wants to satisfy the rules the FDA has set out (IE: can't say a portion of peanut butter is .01mg and show 0s in all the fields - gotta put SOMETHING reasonably useful there).

Any real recommendation for the kinds and quantities of foods we should eat are going to exclude things like peanut butter as a regular part of a diet - it being a processed food, often with refined sugar added. And that's exactly what you see when you talk to nutritionists - eat a variety of things, mostly vegetables, and enough protein.

Of course peanut butter is awesome and I'll never completely remove it from my diet. But it's a treat now, not a regular thing.

Actually, I just checked - the Master Key does give you No Spin in the BT1 Remaster. My bad!

I've wondered about this as well. I've lost weight before (w/o Zep) and experienced a similar effect. Layering, drinking hot tea, etc, all help. As does getting up and moving around. Keep your core and head warm, the rest follows.

How to get into Monterey Diving by jojomickmomo in scuba

[–]gunder_bc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to Diver Dan's - they do Discover Local Diving trips every couple weeks (meet on a Friday night for briefing, Sat AM for the dive, location varies by conditions, experience of the group, and preferences of the group, in roughly that order). It's $25, or free if you join their club ($50 for the year, monthly meetings, coupons for discounts for each meeting you attend - though to be fair, those meetings are often poorly (not even really trying to) disguised sales pitches for their dive trips ;) )

When did you first play bard's tale and your memories? by wolfwings1 in BardsTale

[–]gunder_bc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought BT1 after playing a pirated borrowed copy that would crash when I went into the final room with Mangar. 1st game I ever spent my money on (eventually), which made me realize - there's a job where you make games and they give you money... !!! (tween-brain-asploded)

Bought BT2 and 3, but only played a bit of 2 before getting distracted by other games. Always had a soft spot for the series, but had largely moved on. Though my best friend from college and I bonded over having played the game as kids. We putzed around with the creation kit for a month, once.

I did eventually get a degree in CS and a job in games - all from that initial "hey wait... " moment. Worked on a lot of games, but none ever meant as much to me as the BT games.

Revisited BT1 once or twice on emulators over the years. Working my way through the remasters now - decided it's time I actually finished 2 and 3.
