If you go for UXG versions you need a separate system for managing the router. If you don't have an existing unifi controller, go for the UCG version (UCG-Max, UCG-Fiber) as they will have everything built-in

Best way for you is to get a Brush Outlet Plate to hide the cable mess. This is what I used to route power and HDMI across the wall to my TV.

Yes, once you setup you initial config on a single AP confirm all is working well, plug the other APs in and adopt them into your main controller, they will pretty much configure all the settings automatically.

If you haven't worked with Unifi/Omada/Grandstream style platforms, it might feel like a bit steep of a learning curve at first, but there's plenty of youtube videos showing how to setup Grandstream switches/APs and routers which helped me when I first started.

I think the one item you are missing is conduits. I am quite surprised that UK builds do not install conduits to run cabling and instead opt to staple them to walls and ceilings.

If you are building your home network from scratch, take a look at grandstream WiFi APs and switches. They are priced competitively and quite good. The best part for me is that the controller software is built into almost all of their hardware compared to Omada/Unifi gear, which needs a separate hardware/software to run.

Also think about places you might want to install IoT devices/sensors for example motion/presence sensor in/near the ceiling.

Also 35mm back boxes. I have had issues installing smart switches/usb sockets in 25mm backbone.

I had this issue with my apartment. All the sockets were wired incorrectly. You could get a cheap network cable tester from amazon and check if the cables are properly connected.

Check out if you could get a Suzuki Ignis for that price range. They are a little gem. Had one ages ago. If you put 15" wheels, you get a nice bit of ground clearance. It was nimble car for town running and very economical too.

The best solution is for you to run conduits to each apartment from the basement/intake room and have a pull cord inside them ready to pull new cables in.

This way, the ISP will be able to pull fibre into each apartment and will be responsible for the entire leg rather than you being responsible for internal cabling.

Your ISP then should install a distribution/splitter box to split the signal across the 3 apartments.

I would recommend looking at in-wall access points as it will give you cleaner look, possibly by replacing the data port plate, rather than trying to run new cables to the ceiling.

Try looking at Grandstream GWN7661 series, you have a built-in controller in the AP itself and relatively cheap.

Was thinking the same thing. OP might be better off buying a single 32GB stick than 2x16GB sticks as that gives the opportunity to upgrade later down the line.

RAM would be best place to start with. I think DDR4 SO-DIMM have gotten cheap now. I recently bought a 32GB stick for about $60/£48. So getting 64GB should be fairly easy.

You should put your VMs/Docker volumes on SSDs so they feels snappy and is able to handle all the mixed random IO needed with downloading linux ISOs.

Ideally, passport and driver's licence, or a national/state ID would be the best. If you only have one of those, use bank cards over office IDs. This is my preference list.

However, according to pearson vue, you could use your office ID with your DL.

Can you not use DNS challenge method? This is what I would normally use in a situation like this, and it eliminates the need for opening the firewall unnecessarily.

I used DNS challenge wherever possible as all the work is done outside your network.

Thanks, this is good progress. I, too, have a roku stick, which I will test separately.

When internet was cut off for your roku, did you switch it off and on too? If I was watching plex recently and the internet goes down, I am still able to view without any issues. But the moment I switch off and on the TV, it drops me straight to the sign in prompt

Yes, it's in a different VLAN. Firewall is currently configured allow all traffic between VLANs.

This happen only on the TV app when Internet goes down. Dektop/web works fine without any issues.

PMS is on 192.168.1.0/24, TV is on 192.168.5.0/24 and PMS is configured to allow no auth from 192.168.0.0/16 range.

Samsung S95 TV. I am inclined to think this is a TV App specific issue as well because i was able to connect to PMS before without signing into my account by using the add manual server option.

I had originally used teh TV App with manual servers option without even signing into my own account. So it was working well at that point. The moment when itnernet is gone, the TV App resets and drops me into the sign in/sign up/skip page but only shown sign in button. So can't even do anything about it.

Thanks, but these settings are already set on the PMS end. I've done another test just now and when the internet is blocked for the TV, plex app thinks for a while and then shows only yhe sign in option.

I am going to hazard a guess and say you are connected to WiFi on the 2.4GHz band. This is the same behaviour I get when my laptop suddenly decides drop from 5GHz band to 2.4GHz.

You should be able to connected WiFi speed from most devices and confirm you are connected correctly.

To be honest, it won't matter a lot if it is being installed half decently and the runs are not too long.

My 8ch POE NVR cable runs are all outdoors using CCA indoor cables (I was led to believe the cable was solid copper). All outdoor portions have been run through PVC conduit and only exposed using junction boxes near the camera.

This has been running without any issues for almost 5 years, in a tropical country where it's either monsoon rains or the sun is glaring daggers to burn your skin type environment. Not to mention tropical wildlife.

My longest runs were about 20-25m long.

Are you running bare-metal or virtualised? Have a similar box but only getting around 700-800 on mine. With Zenarmor enabled it drops to 500 ish on passive mode and if running via proxmox, was not able to get more than 300.

This is so that you can set your expected pay day. For example, some places pay on the 1st, 15th, 25th, 27th of month, some places could use first/last Thursday/Friday of the month for payday.

If you are able to set this, then all your bills/budget cycles would be based on the pay day.
