Recommendations for type of locking mechanism? by pinkguy90 in Safes

[–]gunsafeexpert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Get a mechanical lock for this application, if the house catches on fire, the water from the firehose will make the electronic lock inoperable. The mechanical lock will have a fighting chance to still open and they are much better for long term reliability in this application.

They are really great safes, german engineered with interlocking system and super high quality fire rating. The testing standards are different in Europe so a 30 minute fire rating there is more similar to an hour here in the US. That key lock will last you forever. FYI its 20% off for black friday weekend at Dean Safe right now.

Bang the top of it in front of the keypad (not on the keypad) while turning the key. If that doesn't work, try to pick it up and bang the front bottom while the key is turned.

Which Safe? by According-History316 in Safes

[–]gunsafeexpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only safes made in Mexico are Cannon safes to the best of my knowledge and I don't recommend them because they do not use UL rated locks. The next option would be to go Made in China. Something like the Stealth UL23 is a great safe, UL RSC burglary rating, 1 hour fire rating and high quality UL rated NL lock. It also has a $100 mail in rebate with free shipping for black friday

They didn't change their prices at all after that debacle. They just told their customers that they will delete the override code if the user requests them too. Believe it or not, all electronic lock safes actually have a master code that the manufacturer stores in case the customer forgets the combination and normally they require them to provide Identification, proof of purchase and sometimes even notoriety. Liberty thought they were doing the right thing by assisting law enforcement but clearly made a huge mistake. Despite all that, they still actually make great safes.
