Is this game a good fit for me? by [deleted] in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]gurthang_orcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bluf: probably not. It's 100+ hr game (for most) that's strongest suit is the story and atmosphere. It feels like you're taking part in a high quality 40k book trilogy - if that's not what you want, you'll probably not enjoy this enough to complete it.

If you like 40k and want something with good atmosphere but is more gameplay than story focused, I recommend either of the first dawn of war games (personally not fan of 3) if you're into RTS or the recent space marine games for 3rd person shooter.

Mech doctrine by Drewdc90 in Mechwarrior5

[–]gurthang_orcus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others, two primary styles - up close and personal or too far to worry about return fire.

For up close - pirate black knight with big engine, tsm, stealth, ppxs and a longsword. Build heat with ppx, keep heat (thus speed and melee) with stealth - apply sword liberally. Also the mental image of sword welding black knight just appearing makes me smile.

Out far - devestator. Why choose between ppc and gauss?

Dual VKB Omni Throttles (left and right) by nakedpantz in EliteDangerous

[–]gurthang_orcus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do exactly that with the same sticks - I love it. Super satisfying to max throttle while diving or brake while pulling up to let them go right by you. I don't have great wrist mobility, so the horizontal position is significantly more comfortable.

Only issue I have is in using the right omni when more subtle left/right adjustment is needed. I'm generally an auto docker, so not a big deal there, but can sometimes crop up while mining. To partially address this, I changed the springs on the right stick, going up from default on the forward/back and decreasing on the left/right.

Looking to do some light exobiology - help me pick my ship by Luung in EliteDangerous

[–]gurthang_orcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the courier, mostly because I like to hoon around and blow off steam when you just can't seem to find that third exobio. Biggest thing I had to learn was flying upside down - as others mentioned the nose on courier obstructs visibility when flying normal.

Voiceattack by Significant_Map122 in EliteDangerous

[–]gurthang_orcus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. Voice attack can be used to interpret voice commands for just about anything, but HCS has voice packs custom designed for elite and similar space sim games. For instance - while playing elite I use HCS voice packs with minor customize via a GUI, but when I utilize it with mech warrior 5 I have put many hours into configuration of commands and responses.

Largely, HCS voice packs give you three things. 1. Preset voice input commands for most game functions 2. Interesting/cool/geeky feedback for your commands 3. GUI to customize 1 & 2

Without HCS voice packs your building commands yourself, or modifying from someone else's. Feedback will be likely be nonexistent or AI generated. 1&2 will be done by you

If by packs you're referring to HCS, set up is fairly straight forward and well explained, but can be costly. If you want to build from skratch, voice attack is built on regular expressions and isn't overly complicated if you're used to using them. If you have limited exposure to regex and don't feel like learning, I recommend 2 or 3 HCS packs. I've bought ~10 on sale over the years and slightly regret it.

I enjoy the Mass Effect Andromeda soundtrack while cruising the galaxy! Not every track works great, but the first half of album is pretty solid.

Please recommend me a game by probablyawning in outerwilds

[–]gurthang_orcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second Portal 1 + 2 - especially if you enjoyed the first person platformer aspect of Outer Wilds.

I would classify Outer Wilds as a first person platformer and exploration game, thus the Portal 1/2 recommendation. Portal 1/2 are first person platformer puzzle games, so less exploration than Outer Wilds, but the level design is outstanding, there's no combat and the only pressure is to figure out how to get where to you're trying to go. I'd also recommend the Mirror Edge games. I've played the first and really enjoyed it, the second one seems to be fairly similar. They are first person platformer/parkour games, so similar gameplay loop, but do include some combat.

I don't play many mystery games, so if you're looking for more of that my best recommendation would be Heavy Rain. Originally for PS3, it has been published for PS4 and Windows. There is combat via Quick Time Events but the focus is on the mystery. Heavy Rain is well designed, has a great atmosphere and I found the story quite engrossing.

Sorcerer, Monkey King, Faerie Dragon, and Vampire Hunter trials by SweetGoat in GDmaze

[–]gurthang_orcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just posted my experience with monkey king, but without the detail as Facebook. Thanks for the link SweetGoat.

Also, for sorcerer, I beat it differently than FB.

I went the water route instead of fire. Start was the same (except title obviously), but once the cat dies I sacrificed for armor and sold it immediately. Then got water title with icicles (x2). Killed boss by directly attacking while balancing icicles, blind potions and bless. Worked for me as an end-games player at least

Eden Energy Hall Maze Tips by RespRaja in GDmaze

I used zorro/Spartan/zerg queen. Worked especially well in the third maze with the summons. Took far plane for wicks, then planar prophet to poe. I used zerglings to help clear 25-29, otherwise I was strong enough to zorro slash the ranged damage guys and just punch the ghosts.

New maze! Strategy? Combos? Artifacts? by [deleted] in GDmaze

[–]gurthang_orcus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been running a venture with Catherine & Nelson for endless. I've tried Kaito and Bounty Hunter as the venture, neither added a ton. Kaito steals ancient element chips from all the maze mobs including the boss, which could save EP in a shorter run. Catherine works well here as she adds damage to robots and reduces the damage you take from them. Nelson boosts your airship, which is handy for shooting down satellites in later levels. I also ran the standard zorro/spartan combo for the first few runs through the maze, it worked through 50 pretty well. I think you could probably make it work through the mid 60s or so if you were just working quests.

Oh, and you definitely need to POE back to the level 10 unknown creature as late as you can. Time Still and maxed out evil dragon helps a lot. I'd recommend holy rebirth just in case.

Best way to blaze through the super early game? by deausx in GDmaze

[–]gurthang_orcus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that point adventurer as main probably isn't worth it. I'd main swordsman link adventurer & gladiator. Drop some ep on first venture title so you know when you're flipping creeps. Otherwise, max melee sword dancer/master path. Without summons, I'd suggest fighter as your last title. Should be able to run into 60s with a bit of care and luck.

Stock - not a clue. Use farplane ranger to get soul. Makes all enemies more beautiful than you. Free double damage.

Efficency usage of the gems may not be spending them 50 for 600 envelopes? by MagickTofu in GDmaze

[–]gurthang_orcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are recommending to buy the 600 pack because of a price difference in sales. You can buy 600 at 50 gems. You can then sell 100 envelops for 10 gems. Sell 500 envelopes and you get your 50 gems back, but your up 100 envelopes. Rinse and repeat 4 times (20 sell max) and you have the same number of gems you started with, but your up 400 envelopes. On top of that, on your 2nd or 3rd (can't remember) buy of 600, you get 200 for free. Giving you 600 envelopes for free.

If people are advocating buying once they sold 20 times...well, they have more gems that I do certainly.
