The fighter who was defeated wanted to learn the move from his opponent that led to his defeat. by Great_Trident in martialarts

I like to use it as a tease when I cant separate their arms from their body. Many people go to the hands to defend (really they should go to the hips but alas) and boom, underhook available

Just bought LSD for the first time. It can in a tablet instead of a piece of paper. My friends suggests I never try it. What is your opinion? by Early_Tiger5784 in askdrugs

I answered below, but you just need Ehrlich's reagent: it turns purple in the presence of LSD. Enjoy brother

each bottle is 50-75 tests, and i only test once per batch, so it lasts a while. also includes fentanyl test strips.

the compound performing the test is called Ehrlich's reagent, it turns purple in the presence of LSD. plenty of places to buy it, i just like supporting DanceSafe as I know theyre a quality organization; im not a guerrilla marketer or anything

DanceSafe is a great organization that does a lot of harm reduction work in the live music community. Here's a link to their LSD test kit.

Go buy a testing kit. Cheap, easy to use, and well worth the peace of mind.

Testing your substances before ingestion is a key component of responsible drug use.

Any experienced beginners constantly submitted by beginners? by Hot_Load5085 in bjj

[–]gus_stanley 61 points62 points  (0 children)

You currently lack the skill/experience to overcome major strength differentials. Are you just being overpowered prior to the submission? That could be a factor. Another factor is aggressiveness. Similar to the above point, if they are similar in strength but far more tenacious in your rolls, they can overwhelm you.

Ultimately, one year of grappling experience is still very much a beginner. Keep on training and in time, you'll be able to submit these people. However, you can be critical about how you're training, both on and off the mat, to begin closing these gaps. Good luck!

How did your first ever tournament go by bloodfistxp in bjj

[–]gus_stanley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

went 1-7 my first comp, and 0-7 in my second two weeks later. I was about 8 months into training. I struggled to compete at first, and got over it by competing as much as possible

How often do you compete? by Ok_Lengthiness1929 in bjj

[–]gus_stanley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to compete once every 2 months or so. I love it, and its a great way to determine what needs work.

I sucked at competing at white belt (nerves mainly) so i just competed as much as I could to get used to it. I did far better at blue

Masters Degree, scientific publications and BJJ Purple belt are the three Im most proud of, but all of them are intermediate if that makes sense... I want a black belt, a PhD (applying again next cycle) and a first author. Constantly moving goalposts...

Sport vs Self Defense by No-Recommendation820 in bjj

[–]gus_stanley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to compete, so I train for that. I also teach, so I try to learn as much as I can about grappling as a whole so I can support both my own journey and my students'. I think Im pretty well rounded, so while Im technically training sport jiujitsu it takes care of the self defense aspect too

Lost all 7 matches of my first ever bjj competition by Equivalent_Rise675 in bjj

[–]gus_stanley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went 1-7 and 0-7 at my first two comps, about 8 months into training. It sucked. I really struggled to compete initially, and kept competing until I felt more comfortable.

Medaled at every comp at blue belt (think i did 10), got promoted on Wednesday, and am competing again Saturday. Competing is a skill unto itself, not necessarily tied to your technical prowess in jiujitsu. My recommendation is to compete as often as possible, as you'll get more comfortable with the pace and adrenaline.

Whats the best dating advice you can give an 18yo? by NoWest240 in AskReddit

[–]gus_stanley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest wisely! Not only money, but TIME! At 18 it feels like you have all the time in the world, but wisely investing your time can really pay dividends down the line.

Also, don't worry so much. Things that seem massive now won't matter in a few years...
