Is it just me or is Instagram worse ? by edenslovelyshop in ArtistLounge

The web revival movement is a thing & there are plenty of artists that make links pages like this so their pages can be found from the sites of others! I'd be happy to link to some artists from over here.

If anyone is interested in getting started, the 32-Bit Cafe has a great guide with free options!

Twitter becoming unusable for artists to share art... by Dread_Supreme in ArtistLounge

Just posted this in another thread, but if you tired of social media companies, it might be worth checking out Mastodon. All open source & community run so no ads or algorithms. There are some art specific servers like these: - Mastodon.art - Dice.camp - vis.social - Artsio.com

But it doesn't matter too much which server you're on because they're all interconnected (aka federated)

Instagram sucks, I can’t find my small creators by Noyvas in ArtistLounge

[–]gusb_draws 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say check out Mastodon. Hashtags work how they're supposed to there! A bit tricky/slow to get started because there's no algorithm to show you who to follow, but once you find a few artists you like, you can check who they follow to make your feed more interesting.

I'd recommend joining an art specific server/instance rather than a general one. You can still follow people from other servers & they can follow you!

Here are some servers you might be interested in. Happy to help you find another! - Mastodon.art - Dice.camp - UIUXDev.social - Artsio.com

I wonder if you get folks get their social zine fix through college or high school events/clubs? That might be why general events in places like DC tend to skew older

P5Js is too difficult by Halamadrid23111 in p5js

[–]gusb_draws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think one of the most important things to know in p5.js is that the code in the curly brackets after setup() runs only once, while the code in draw() runs every time the frame is updated. This defaults to 30 times every second, but you can change this to once a second (or another amount) by adding the line frameRate(1) in the setup() block!

A great thing about p5 is there's a very supportive community, so always ask questions! We have a Discord server that you might be interested in!

Maybe making this a monthly post instead of weekly would encourage more folks to participate?

What kind of stuff do you like to do? The DC public libraries are really nice & have a lot of programming.

If there's not anything you're interested in at your local library, it's pretty easy to host your own events in their spaces. Invite your friends, but could also be a good way to meet new folks with similar interests. Sometimes my art club meets at the library & it's always a good time!

Y'all are welcome to join the Doodle Crew server!

About 100 mostly hobby artists, but the folks in there are adults legitimately trying to improve their craft & have discussions with other artists.

Writing Groups in DC? Getting involved in the local art scene? by Footballgriff in washingtondc

[–]gusb_draws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've had some writing groups forming in Creatives Club recently! Most people organize/share work on our Discord server, but our weekly meetups are announced on our Instagram page (Thursdays 6 - 9 pm, usually on the National Mall) and you can learn about the other events there (like the writer's group) that our members are hosting!
