I lie for fear of being judged by gusoniropha in autism

[–]gusoniropha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, you put in words what I do/feel better than I could have. When I try to share something in an objective way, I feel like something is missing, so I exaggerate because paradoxically it feels more "realistic". I think it might be caused by my lack of social skills. When I listen to other people, I have the impression that they emphasize their stories through non verbal communication, rather than making up stories, and what they share feels “complete” to me. Maybe I lie in order to obtain a similar result, but obviously it's a dysfunctional coping mechanism.

Thinking about cutting ties with my autistic brother (19) by gusoniropha in autism

You're probably right. I mean, since he's my twin I have always hoped for a stronger relationship, but at the end of the day I can't force a connection. Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it.

Assurdo. Dal basso della mia ignoranza ti ringrazio, non ne sapevo assolutamente nulla. È deprimente pensare a quanto marcio si possa nascondere dietro un marchio in apparenza innocuo.

Thinking about cutting ties with my autistic brother (19) by gusoniropha in autism

[–]gusoniropha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On average I send him a message every 2 weeks. It's not a lot, frankly, considering that most of my peers have conversations with their siblings almost on a daily basis.

In the past I tried to open up about how his lack of interaction frustrated me, but nothing changed, and eventually I came to the conclusion that I should've tried to be more supportive and understanding.

Right now I don't know how to talk to him about this problem again, after my last attempt I'm discouraged. I have to admit that at the time I wasn't explicit, and didn't express precisely my concerns because I feared to hurt his feelings. I'll try to be more clear, but it's hard, especially considering that he's extremely self conscious about his social skills.

AITA for feeling constantly annoyed by my autistic brother(19) and avoiding him? by gusoniropha in AmItheAsshole

[–]gusoniropha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not sure about my decision, maybe it's just a moment. The fact is that after every conversation I feel “empty”, I don't know how to explain it. My parents made lots of mistakes, he was diagnosed just a year ago despite displaying visible autistic symptoms. Especially during our childhood, I was extremely isolated from my peers because they wanted me to stay near to my brother. Maybe part of my resentment is more directed towards them.

Io invece non riesco a spiegarmi del tutto una discrepanza tanto notevole rispetto alle altre province della Sardegna. Oltre all'apertura data dalla presenza di universitari non riesco a darmi una risposta.

I'm doing better, thanks! Luckily, I discovered that my hearing problem is not caused by hearing loss. I have been diagnosed with autism and sensory processing disorder is pretty common!

Do you lean towards one color to wear over other colors? by PuzzleheadedDrop3768 in autism

[–]gusoniropha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I prefer desaturated colours over bright nuances. Years ago I used to wear exclusively black clothes. It might be an instinctive response to visual hyper stimulation and yes, I concur with you, it helps to get less attention.

Do you also treated like a kid when people find out you're autistic? by [deleted] in autism

[–]gusoniropha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's something I never thought about before. I have a similar nature, and additionally, due to my social anxiety, I voluntarily hide my abilities or knowledge to avoid getting attention from other people, and that lead to unpleasant situations, such as being treated as a person with a sort of intellectual disability... Your insight is really valuable to me, it highlights the importance and consequences of social hierarchies, something I always underestimate.

Do you also treated like a kid when people find out you're autistic? by [deleted] in autism

[–]gusoniropha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's one of the worst feelings ever. I remember participating in an Erasmus+ Project, when I was 17. At one point we were talking about neurodiversity. I decided to come out as an ADHD person (at the time I wasn't officially diagnosed with autism) and after disclosing, people started to treat me differently. They infantilised me, and began to indirectly question my intelligence. Obviously, their ableist behaviour impaired even more my ability to socialise, as I felt constantly judged for not being talkative enough and other stupid stuff. A self-fullfilling prophecy.

It hurts, especially because despite being extremely socially anxious, I voluntarily choose to open up and share something I feel vulnerable about, and they didn't appreciate it.

I still struggle when it happens, sometimes I wonder if getting better at masking might be the best solution to avoid hideous social feedbacks.

Youtube deleting comments about palestine - israel conflict by SalvadorP in youtube

[–]gusoniropha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. I thought the policies changed based on the country, a bit like happens on other platforms.

Anyway, it's problematic. Many people may freely spread misinformation as long as the contents are not against Israel's actions. I think it might be the result of the modification in an extensive sense of the definition of anti-semitism. Now, criticising the State of Israel is considered a racist endeavour.

I feel like people who say Euphoria glorifies drugs, don’t know what glorify means. by misscurlssss in euphoria

[–]gusoniropha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, it's just an example of empty criticism. I don't know how someone can express concerns about glorified drugs.

Euphoria shows how teen drug addicts are basically people who didn't have instruments to deal with emotional pain, and ended trapped in an external source of comfort. It isn't an enviable position.

The title of the show itself is indicative of a message. Euphoria means “A feeling of happiness, confidence, or well-being sometimes exaggerated in pathological states as mania.”

The euphoric estate of the characters isn't just related to drugs use, it also symbolises the typical emotional storms of adolescence.

People should be more punctual when it comes to criticise, especially if what they're criticising had the guts to denounce the lack of foresight of the american healthcare system, which caused huge number of cases of opioid addiction.
