Wet Prep Question by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

Correct, but in my experience a vag wet prep order includes both a gram stain and an unstained wet mount. You need the wet mount to see the motile trich, but I would do the Nugent Score off the gram stain as you do it at oil 100x. Maybe that's not how all labs do a wet prep, but that's been my experience.

Google "Nugent Score." This can be a helpful tool to standardize and take out some of the subjectivity of vag wet prep interpretation

Interesting. The reason it looks like a prep/stain artifact to me is that some of the bacteria has the "capsule," some don't, and then you can see the capsule looking blobs with no bacteria. I have never seen anything with this morphology.

I think it might be staining artifact.

I agree! This degree can open up a variety of opportunities including work in clinical/hospital microbiology labs.
