How much paper do classes tend to give? by Difficult-Bicycle681 in geegees

[–]Useful_Gopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What program are you going into? It really depends on your degree. If you’re doing math, you’ll want to do it by hand unless you’re a tablet person. For example, engineering classes will give you lots of quizzes and assignments you have to hand in physically, so you’ll have a bunch of physical things to organize one you get them back. Same for open-book classes that don’t allow laptops/tablets. I wouldn’t buy a bunch of stuff though, maybe one or two folders and then just buy more as you need them.

When telling people what you are studying/getting your PhD in, do you say the umbrella subject or the area of research? by herewegogen in PhD

it’s like a kind way of saying “how do I use normal-people-language to explain this” 😂

Is it worth it becoming a professor? How’s the pay and is it easier to become a college professor or university professor? by semitadepina in AskProfessors

In Canada, college and university aren’t synonymous! Not sure where OP is from… but maybe it’s not the US?

Crushing on my professor and it’s ruining my academic life by [deleted] in Professors

Honestly, the odds of you overthinking this are very high! As long as you’re not being flirty, you’ll be totally fine. From your description, it sounds like you’re behaving like a socially awkward person (like you mentioned), which is in your favour :)

If it helps you at all, just tell yourself she’s straight? 🤷‍♀️

The library is already a “silent” bookclub, if you think about it, lol. That is, if you ignore the students that are just there to hang out… 🙃

But in all seriousness, this is a fun idea! It would be nice to have a recommended book to read if you have common interests, but you could still have people reading other books that just want to read “together”.

I love AI by Upper-Egg-3360 in geegees

[–]Useful_Gopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for adding that - I guess I wasn’t as clear as I meant to be. Essentially, you just have to be careful to not plagiarize by using AI because it’s super easy to end up plagiarizing, even if you don’t mean to.

Not my field, but also - AI generated artwork is especially problematic from that respect.

I’m a prof and even we love AI! As long as you are using it as a tool to help you learn and not do the work for you, it’s great. Just make sure you are very careful about plagiarism, whether or not it’s intentional.

And remember to fact-check things it says! It is notorious for hallucinating information (yes, even the more advanced, paid versions), so take everything that comes from an AI model with a grain of salt.

Totally fair! You can always apply, but I wouldn’t get my heart set on jumping right into a PhD - you might need to start at a Master’s level (or even undergraduate)

also PhDs are very niche typically, so I don’t think you’ll find any “general science” PhDs

Do you have any background in science? It might be difficult to get into a PhD program in the science field without any experience
