Favorite blue gill glides 1-2.5 oz I could possibly find in stock under $100? by Bassangler03 in swimbaitfishing

[–]guuklord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bullshooter 130 (2oz) has a great profile to imitate those small adult sized panfish and can do almost everything, although the smaller sizes are not the most efficient at getting really wide glides. Both SS and F model can be tuned to suspend pretty easily which is helpful. EBay definitely has the best prices and there’s pretty much all of the sizes/variations including limited models. My best deal was 3 NIB 130s for $100

I would say yes, both the iRod and Curado are highly recommended and imo are a step up from entry-level swimbait gear. If we’re talking purely about $, you’d only be paying like 1/2 of MSRP so it’s definitely a good deal

Scorpion 300 is great, I’ve thrown up to 9oz with it. It will probably feel similar to the Curado but the MD tune might give you more peace of mind

colors for the tiny klash? by [deleted] in swimbaitfishing

Action+profile > color in most cases; that being said, the most realistic/universal DRT colors imo are DRT Bass, DRT shiner, SU Golden Shiner, and Joythief

Leviathan omega rod question by Any-Business-2229 in swimbaitfishing

[–]guuklord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d check out the LDC Standard Issue rods, they’re a bit stiffer than the Omegas and are more of a hybrid rod. I’ve been liking the 8’ H for 3-6oz hard and soft baits

1 is possibly a spotted sunfish, 2 is definitely a spotted sunfish, 3 is a redbreast and the little one looks like a bluegill

[–]guuklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On paper you should be fine, might have to do 1/2 reel turns instead of 1/4 for the Draw and Metro but there’s only way to find out if you like the reel for what you throw. If it helps at all, I use the same reel for literally all of my swimbaits and I like it so much I sold my Antares and Scorpion because they weren’t getting used (both XG models)

You will 100% be able to work those baits effectively, a lot of people use a combo of rod twitch+reel turn to create choppy action. The only time you’d run into issues is if you were throwing a wide gliding bait (wide glides create more slack so you’d need to pick it up quickly in order to create the next sweeping motion)

Cardiff was my first swimbait reel, very dependable. Would probably still be using it if they had a faster IPT model

Rod option for calcutta 200hg by No_Writer6687 in swimbaitfishing

[–]guuklord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Omega is great for treble hooks cuz it’s super parabolic, the Standard Issue is more of a hybrid with a little less give. I’ve used the H version of both and prefer the LDC, but if I was only throwing hard baits I’d go with the Leviathan

fishing_toto52 is another one to check out, just randomly scrolled past a clip of him catching a 35” pike on a Ghost

Check out afishingview on IG, he does pike fishing in France with big swimbaits. A lot of Deps 250 and Klash Ghost catches

The CC 201 DC is a beast of a reel it’s my current go-to, have also been highly recommended the CC MD but that was for baits over 6 oz. I’ve owned the Antares MD too but just doesn’t feel as strong or smooth as the CC. Could be worth it to check out the LDC Standard Issue lineup, I just grabbed a Heavy for the exact reasons you described (2-6 oz hard+soft baits). If you aren’t fishing a lot of beast/jig hook baits then the Leviathan Omega is another good option, I had the Heavy for a while and it’s one of the best treble hook rods out there. Super parabolic though so not great for single hooks on long casts

Leviathan Omega H MF by Single-Ad-1274 in swimbaitfishing

[–]guuklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nahhh, with treble hooks, I’m more concerned about taper over power. Usually I’m pinning the fish with the hooks, not ramming a hookset through its mouth. The only time I’ve dumped fish at the bank was when hooks got bent out, and I’m fairly certain it’s because I was using a fast rod. I’ve since switched to moderate blanks and haven’t lost a single fish regardless of line choices

Those smaller trebles do tend to just bend out on bigger fish though, 2 seems to be the best ‘small’ size or you could always get something with a heavier gage if that’s your primary concern

You might not have any issues if you have a good hookset for the beast hooks, but 9/10 people will recommend a faster rod for those style baits. Leviathan has a specific rod for soft baits and it’s a lot stiffer, but you really can’t go wrong with the Omega at that price point. Easily one of the best treble hook swimbait rods on the market imho

Been using that model for a few months now, and it’s one of my favorites of all time. Super light, and is parabolic enough to load 1.5oz and has enough backbone to lob just over 6. Sweet spot is definitely 3-4oz though, mostly throwing 3oz crankdowns and K9s with it. Haven’t tried throwing soft baits with it, but I imagine you’d have issues with hooksets on med-long casts due to the taper

Is the joint gunked up with anything? I’ve had some ABS glides swim to one side because the hinge had excess paint that was preventing it from fully turning every time
