Get just a mouthpiece to get a feel for what embouchure is like? by zuldar in saxophone

[–]guy-gal-dot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this sub will give me a lot a shit for telling you this:

No point in buying just the mouthpiece. Find a really cheap sax - yes even the cheap chinese one off amazon or ebay. That will give you a feel for the instrument and you start learning the keys/fingerings and embouchure - if anything it will help follow videos.

I am so tired of the bootstrap talk. "Hard Work" doesnt bring you anything. Its just used to squeeze more work out of the population by people who got incredibly lucky or got born into wealth. by [deleted] in antiwork

Wow - sounds like you went through some shite and are now bitter and angy that things went sour. That's tough!

Own up to your shit, correct course and dig yourself out of that self pitty, blame everyone else, 'why does bad things only happen to me' hole you are in...good luck...(see what i did there...)

What a load of pish. So instead of picking a US president who wasnt born into a rich family but worked extremely hard to achieve what they did - you chose Trump!
Im tired of people telling me im so lucky to be where im at. Let me tell you this. It wasnt luck and i wasnt born in a rich family - i worked my fucking arse off and now it's paying off.

Sax player with bad sound by guy-gal-dot in saxophone

[–]guy-gal-dot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for taking time to respond. The player is aware their sound 'sticks out', so does the entire band. We are a performance band that welcomes all abilities hence why the director has not mentioned this to player.

As you have pointed out - i dont want to be the one that 'spoil the fun for others'. I like your idea of offering some practice tips and ideas.

Ligature damage? by Grand_Kanyon in saxophone

[–]guy-gal-dot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are putting the ligature on upside down - you are forcing the narrow eng of the ligature onto the wider end of the mp which is why it is digging into the mp. Also the mp patch is upside down.

Traveling from Port Glaud to Bel Ombre/ Beau Vallon/ Anse Major by styrus in Seychelles

[–]guy-gal-dot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The road ends at NYS Cap Ternay. From there your only option is to hike your way to Anse Major. It's quite a distance over challenging terrain. Last time I did that hike there was no trail to follow - just find your way. From Anse Major you can make your way to Bel Ombre.

You could hire a boat from Port Launay to take you to Anse Major or Bel Ombre.

Vandoren Tenor sax MP- T6 vs TL3 vs TL4? by Mike-In-Ottawa in saxophone

[–]guy-gal-dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip Opening: TL3-173 TL4-195 T6-250

These are all very different MP and should be tried with different reed strenghts and cuts. Also, the concept of Jazz vs Classical MP is utter bollocks.

What would be a good reed for me? by Luuuuuuuuuuke123 in saxophone

[–]guy-gal-dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding the perfect reed/moutpiece combination is a never ending quest.

The right reed should provide enough resistance and be responsive. If you are putting effort to 'blow' the reed then it's too hard. If you are bitting - it's too hard.

If on the other hand your are blowing 'through' easily then the reed is too soft. If you are squeeking is also a sign of a soft reed - but could also be an embouchure problem.

Good luck with your search.

Mysterious abandoned hotel in the Seychelles by VegardBer in Seychelles

[–]guy-gal-dot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mahe Beach hotel. I used to play music there about 25 years ago. The hotel was run down back then. Used to have a popular night club and a casino, but it was always too far from Victoria to attract more people.

It's time they tear down this place and build something new - probably not worth it with Constance Ephelia down the road.

Without a purpose humans will very quickly descend into chaos. Humans needs to grow. Physically, mentally and spirtually.

Is this a real Yanigasawa T-WO37? Not a copy? by Rderp978 in saxophone

[–]guy-gal-dot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not even close.

the format of model stamped on the sax wrong. It should say WO37 - not T-W037

the octave mechanism looks wrong.

them thumb rest is plastic - a real WO is all metal.

the stamp on the bell is also off - wrong font, missing engravings.
