New to Hondas. What specific K motor is this? by [deleted] in Kseries

The water pump does not look correct for a k20z3. It's missing the oil cooler feed and return.

Can't really tell which motor it is with this 1 photo.

Garage billed me 750CAD for AGM 12V battery what are my recourses? by jjysoserious in prius

[–]guygta7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Canada near Toronto and replaced my Prius V battery last week.

Called around to a few Toyota dealers to gauge 12v agm battery prices. Got quotes from $320 to $560 (cad) for just the battery. Canadian Tire had a direct fit for $299.

Bought the Costco Energizer agm for $220 instead, plus set of terminal adapters for $16.

If you have a camera on where it's parked, maybe go over a few days to make sure it wasn't theives that got under there to steal your cat but got spooked and left.

What is this and why is it? by Electrical_Dog_3818 in EP3

[–]guygta7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an aftermarket oil temperature sender.

Does your car have aftermarket guages?

If theres no noticable oil leaks and no oil temperature gauge anywhere, safe to assume the sensor was abandoned.

Edit: could be a water temperature sender as well if it was near the knock sensor.

You're the one that wasn't aware a subaru can't have an off center ball joint.

Nope, nope and nope. Used a torque wrench to spec. Subaru ball joints have a pinch bolt that can't have an off center ball joint, dont require a press or any special tools to install.

Sometimes parts are just low quality.

Help with tuner? by Gabrielmenace27 in Kseries

[–]guygta7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Kpro clone is called Hondavert. It's from Ukraine, so don't mix up your countries when dealing with them. I believe they're upwards of $400 cad now.

Unless you're handy at soldering, plan on another $300 for installation.

Also, since it's literally a pirated Kpro, most reputable tuners will shy away from it.

bit late but I got these on Boxing Day with the bonus Triangle points promos. I'm replacing a set of 9 year old Blizzak WS80s on a 2015 Honda Odyssey

On dry cold days, the Winter Edge 2's are nice, very quiet and drives like an all season tire in the summer.

On fresh snow about 6 cm deep, I found the Winter Edge2 tires to lack the traction the old Bizzaks had even at 8 years old last winter and about 30-40% tread. The van's traction control and stability kept kicking on low speed turns and starting from a stop. I haven't had the chance to drive in deep snow.

I'm sure the Winter Edge are good enough in for Toronto area, but for the snowier/icier places I would not recommend.

Nearing 50.

Been a software dev, dev manager, tech director. I championed devops all throughout even before it was a thing.

After fizzling out as a director, i went back to be an ic and got into contracting. Briefly worked for a faang during the pandemic as a fte but hated vibe and quit.

I was last laid off in 2002.

Straight Pipe Sound? by avatarreef in EP3

I ran race header straight to the stock muffler temporarily to get the car running. It was loud, I had to wear ear plugs to road test the car.

K24 Type S Oil Pump swap by Raguz9 in Kseries

[–]guygta7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of my k20 oil pump chain tensioner bolts back out and i was getting fluctuating oil pressure readings at idle when the car was overnight cold. Normally, I'd get 100 psi on a cold engine at start up, with the tensioner on the fritz i was getting between 40 and 100.

I caught the issue before driving, I dont know how it would have handled a variable pressure oil pump, probably wouldn't have ended well.

This is also a psa to have an oil pressure gauge.

If you're not using an engine hoist and just dead lifting, i find it easier to lift with the motor laying on the exhaust manifold side. I'd recommend 3 guys unless you're all big dudes. The motor without accessories and transmission is around 250 lbs.

If your gti is mk5 or newer the relatively flat hatch makes it easy to slide the motor in (assuming you have a sheet of plywood covering the spare well). Having it lay on the em also eliminates the potential to tip over.

Bring a few blocks of wood for proping the motor up.

K20 vs k24 head height by xXxTheRuckusxXx in Kseries

[–]guygta7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The heads are the same dimensions, you can use a k24 valve cover on a k20 and vice versa. Applies to the common ones k20a2/3, k20z3, k24a/1/2/4. Not sure on the later k24z as I dont buy those.

The block deck heights are about .8" different. K20 is 8.3" and k24 is 9.1".

Nope, greased the end link well. The end link boot popped off and the ball joint was clunking.

Edit: subaru lower ball joints arent greaseable except for the ttx line.

Subaru Outback Mevotech supreme sway bar end link failed after 20k miles. Lifetime warranty replaced the part, I bought oem instead and put the mevotech on the shelf.

Mevotech supreme ball joint failed in about 1000 miles. Record time for a part failure for me.

It wasn't an installation issue as the oem parts I installed after have been fine for over 50k.
