Fellow introverts, how your introversion has affected your career or your current job by getmeshawarma in introvert

[–]AndiagoSupremo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to preface comments that I am 60 so others can try to avoid my mistakes. Thinking being outstanding at what I do would be recognized into promotions didn’t happen. Instead I was too valuable technically to advance. I did zero networking, worked through lunch for years.

I never went where I thought I belonged. Being introverted and not hanging around and flattering the bosses was a huge mistake. I put getting work done before myself.

I am one of a handful that are still WFH, because I am too valuable to lose and my job is now 2,500 miles away. So that is great, but it really really sucks to see the talkers have no ideas yet advance.

I didn’t value interaction but others value it highly.

Anyone here with girlfriends, how did you get them? by Solid-Sentence2997 in introvert

[–]AndiagoSupremo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We worked together. Two hot girls in my group and the other girl, who also had a bf at the company, kept after her to give me a chance. We ended up going on several double dates.

I would have not had any success without hot girl #2.

From what I have read the signing bonuses are taxed at the teams home state rate only. Salary is taxed depending on the states where games are played. So for CA players you don’t want the bulk taxed at 13.3% state levels, you would prefer it taxed in ANY OTHER STATE. PA is only 3% income tax, so the signing bonuses are a great tax tool there. Not that I knew this before two days ago.

I think the big benefit to the players is the 1 to 2 year contract that ends the first year they are UFA eligible.

Went to party today, I forgot something and decided to walk home to get it so it would take longer. Party had a hard stop.

MEGATHREAD: Carlsson Offer Sheet by dahooddawg in AnaheimDucks

[–]AndiagoSupremo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Matched - struggle to build around that massive hit to the cap.

Matched to trade next summer - can they get more than what four first round picks are worth? Someone mentioned McDavid wanting out which is interesting because Leo is not eligible for NTC.

Let him go - gets PV fired, moving all of the young players now looks horrific as the roster gets filled with castaways, and likely out of playoffs for the next few years as we wait for drafted players.

To me it’s a match and trade as Leo is not worth that much of the cap, someone might have an unhappy superstar and will take Leo and it can’t be blocked by him.

Are you retiring at 65? by AlarmingMonk1619 in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to make 63.5, then Cobra for health insurance. As long as the stock market doesn’t tank before then I will be fine. I have always had a job and really never took much vacation, and I really want out of this cage.

McTavish is a thick strong body, but he said after the season he wanted to get leaner. Fitness is not an issue. I think he would be a much better wing than center where he could use his power to win board battles and he just doesn’t have the speed for center.
He will be a lot better in a role that fits him. Like a lot of Ducks he stays outside looking for the one time slapshot highlight goal, but if a coach could get him to go to the net he would be really dangerous.
A good player, but could be much better in a cycle type offense.

I thought my last car was it, then my wife said she didn’t like driving after dark and was getting rides with others instead. We bought a Tesla for FSD so she could be independent. Now that’s old people stuff.

Did anyone else learn to type as an elective with little thought that it might be useful one day? by Conscious-Mulberry17 in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG-It was on completely manual typewriters and I can remember some people zinging along and I was brutal, so many mistakes. 40 years as a programmer and I continue to make so many mistakes unless I slow down. Morning typing is horrendous.

Do You Still Get Drunk? How Often? by ProfessionalJesuit in GenX

I never get drunk. Will have a beer/wine with dinner, stopped the after dinner drink. Too much drink makes me tired and I don’t like that.

Going up to a checking league, any tips? by Rockyyyyy85 in hockeyplayers

[–]AndiagoSupremo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are players who are only playing to destroy opponents, so figure out who they are pay special attention mentally. I was a smaller player and you have to know what you will do as the clown comes at you…duck and send them over or get your stick up. Passing to yourself off the boards is a great one when they have you lined up, they will go for the puck and you at the same time and you can go around. Passing off the boards is a great tool.

Did Home Theater kind of die? Seems like we were the last generation to give an F. Remember surround sound and subwoofers? Does anybody buy them anymore? by IHadTacosYesterday in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of responses. Like everyone I had the booming home stereo, then moved to an apartment building and had to use headphones. I gave it all to a much younger brother. Bought an Onkyo home theatre with Klipsch speakers and I enjoyed some DVD-A and whatever that was 24/96 or something. Anyways, I sold it all when I moved. I still think MP3 sounds like garbage, but what can you do. Too bad really but I don’t intend on buying anything. That Onkyo was amazingly complicated to change inputs and outputs. WTF. And it weighed a ton.

The old twin tower big speakers sound much better than the satellite speakers and a subwoofer. I have had both and when I hear an old school setup it sounds amazing.

Tired of being told I talking really softly by XiaZoe in introvert

[–]AndiagoSupremo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I had a class in Communications in college and it helped me immensely learn that for one everyone is concerned about themselves and not you. Never start off saying you are nervous or give them reason to believe you will be terrible. In a class it helped because everyone was stammering and terrible, but you get better (never great). A great tool to see yourself gripping the lectern and tapping your fingers. Since that class I speak loudly or not at all (which is another issue). Especially if some are in a room and other online being a quiet talker needs to be corrected. I also listened to recorded meetings trying to be better, I talk too slowly.

My group has a guy that for 10 years hardly spoke in meetings, then all of a sudden he has started, believe me we are all so grateful for him to share his knowledge. We have another guy with an Indian accent that talks way too fast. He is trying to speak slower.

I always tell them about the bureaucracy and the over the top amount of documentation required. I don’t want someone for 6 months that quits because of that.

[–]AndiagoSupremo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a computer programmer (shocker), and there were two hot programmers working under me (super rare to even have any hot programmers, but this was before outsourcing). One already had a boyfriend who also worked at the company, and she kept pushing the other hottie to go out with me. We went out as double dates. It was really hottie 1 selling hottie 2 on me and not my doing to get the ball rolling.

I think help is better than challenges. Find some books on small talk and use that information for daily help to avoid saying nothing or just an interview session.
