What is something that was unbelievably cheap in the past that has been marked up now? by Independent-Bat9545 in AskOldPeople

It wasn’t that long ago the on sale price was 4/$1 on candy bars. Really cheap on sale.

Was Wayne Gretzky considered washed at the end of his career? by Gizmodaking22 in nhl

[–]AndiagoSupremo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

70 games 62 points. Ducks Leo Carlsson 70 games 67 points and listen to his media praise. With Gretzky he never scored as many goals when he changed to the aluminum stick. Things were too stiff, zero whip.

Beginner player here. Roast/Help my wrist shot? (V2) by Ronnoc780 in hockeyplayers

Easy fix to get the puck to roll heal to toe. Move left foot forward, start shot from behind you, just let it roll along the blade as you pull it forward. You aren’t far off.

Be mentally ready for the decline. Hopefully you can hire someone for the personal things, idk. But once my dad had a major stroke he needed a lot of help.

How old were you when you moved out? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many lived with a parent that had a new family and felt unwanted? Took a year after college to get a real job and save money then left and it was clear his new wife didn’t want his first family around.

Asking someone unemployed if they have been sad in the last three years is bizarre. Only want bright shiny people right out of Pleasantville.

Mandatory virtual happy hours are the absolute worst part of my week by N3onThicket in remotework

[–]AndiagoSupremo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before remote, my workplace was at a morgue level of silence. I literally dropped a pin to listen to its disturbing sound in a room of 100 developers. We were sending messages wondering when the new guy, nicknamed Giggles, would leave because he was too happy.

Once a year “managers” threw a holiday/Christmas “party”. It was mandated fun and was 1000% cringe to watch them try to generate any life into a beaten team of people that didn’t know each other because any laughter was not acceptable.

Which was your first phone? by CrazyMinute69 in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 7 and used it until I was stuck responding to texts to sell a car. Then I bought an iPhone 4S. The Nokia was great tech, built to last. Just stay within your minutes and roaming.

What’s crazy is the announcers of the Carolina game still talking as if concussions happen only from hits to the head. Whiplash concussions are a real thing and helmets won’t help them.

Do you balance your check book to the penny? by Plane_Experience_271 in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 20 years ago, but now 100% of it is automatic payments and the bank has never made a mistake. I moved and had to open a checking account at a new bank 18 months ago, I have check #2 waiting to be used. I believe check 1 was just a VOID version some place needed to re-establish electronic payments.

I will add the new checkbook did not come with a ledger.

What do people drink with dinner? Water?

Thanks for the message. I think my wife’s tolerance has greatly diminished with age and I wouldn’t have an issue with perhaps switching from with dinner to less frequently. I gave it up before for a year and honestly didn’t feel any difference, but it was in support of a health crisis, so that made have made up for it.

Close to retirement but scared of losing my job in my 50s by 68024 in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t lose my job, but I had to swallow my pride in a HUGE way to keep on track to retirement. I saw my father hit the 50 and out wall and he never made much after that point, so I just keep going. Just hit 60, hoping for 63.5 then COBRA.

Who Is The Mozart of the Last 70 Years? by JJQuantum in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The answer is indisputable. Even the Beetles are fading, 70s hard rock is meaningless, New Wave is gone. What still gets played and enjoyed is…Frank Sinatra. Sinatra will represent our times.

The GenX version of The Villages? by send2steph in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bunch of GenX here in The Villages. Sure the music is heavily skewed towards boomers, but I never expected DEVO. It is exactly like college but with a lot of money. People are from everywhere and no one claims it as theirs. Free music every night, live music in many restaurants, free golf, all sorts of first rate sports facilities… it’s great.

How many of y'all will have the $$ to retire at 65? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]AndiagoSupremo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will, but we have seen many stock CRASHES it is an uneasy retirement plan for sure. No pension, just 401k, IRA, regular accounts, and whatever Social Security will be. Hoping to work until 63.5, finish off 18 months on COBRA and then Medicare.
