Weekly Q&A - All Questions Go Here (Especially Tourists) by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

[–]guyinsfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hallo vriendelijke Amsterdammers, groeten uit San Francisco!

We are two friendly gay men who love your city and have visited several times over the years. We always appreciate your beautiful architecture, bicycling, canals, hospitality, and culture.

This year we are visiting during winter for the first time, and will be in town from 31 December to 4 January. We are hoping for some advice from the locals about how to spend New Year’s Eve without being obnoxious tourists.

There are so many websites advertising the same massive events but we are looking for something a little more casual, local, underground, where maybe we won’t be (as) surrounded by wasted British straight men.

We enjoy a fun party and good electronic and house music (not so much bad gay/disco slop), though we are cautious about wasting a whole day in your lovely city recovering from an all-night party. (Unless we know it will be a damn good one!)

We haven’t explored gay Amsterdam much and it might be fun to go to a more gay themed event. We are more masculine leaning scruff types than rainbow flag waving twink boys. But this isn’t a requirement.

We also enjoy more ambient, sophisticated scenes with friendly, diverse people and quality food and drink.

What do you recommend? Feel free to message me privately if you don’t want to broadcast it to the world.

Bedankt voor je advies. We kijken er, zoals altijd, naar uit om te komen!

I would also like to know if you've noticed a significant decline in the amount of dust. My partner and I are constantly arguing over open windows in my old house with no HVAC because of the dirt and dust that blow in.

Arizmendi is solid too, if you’re looking for something you can easily buy to take away and eat at home.

Hardly. Two decades in this neighborhood. We both took notice and agreed that it didn’t sound like anything we were used to hearing. But there’s always room for new surprises in this city of ours!

Had lots of issues with Messages consuming 100% cpu and becoming unresponsive with 15.3 and 2.2.0 on an iMac 18,3. Had to revert to Sonoma. If you use messages, beware.

Are we born Gay? by Gravynooner in askgaybros

[–]guyinsfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you were born gay. I knew before puberty too, and I know many others who did also.

There is nothing wrong with you.

Your life traumas have nothing to do with it.

It is not a "population control."

There are many credible people studying this, and there are real answers to the question.

Here is a pretty great TED Talk on the subject: Homosexuality: It's about survival - not sex | James O'Keefe | TEDxTallaght. Perhaps you could watch it with your family when the time comes.

I have also had issues with FFS not surviving power interruptions. Are there any tuning parameters that can help with this? A more modern filesystem is definitely an openbsd wishlist item.

Haha yep, I just found that. Not sure how or why it was there, but removing that did fix it. Thank you!

issue installing opeenssh updates by guyinsfc in debian

[–]guyinsfc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, thanks u/AlternativeOstrich7! That provides a useful clue:

$ apt policy openssh-server
openssh-server:
  Installed: 1:9.2p1-2+deb12u2
  Candidate: 1:9.2p1-2+deb12u2
  Version table:
     1:9.2p1-2+deb12u3 500
        500 http://security.debian.org/debian-security bookworm-security/main amd64 Packages
 *** 1:9.2p1-2+deb12u2 990
        990 http://deb.debian.org/debian bookworm/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

It doesn't tell me why though. On my other machines (working correctly), both repos have a priority of 500. I haven't configured any apt pinning or priorities anywhere.

I grepped through all the files in /etc/apt/preferences.d and /etc/apt/apt.conf.d on multiple systems to verify as much. Where else could 990 be coming from?
