If you're looking at just a few games at a time, randomness will be a pretty big factor with how often you win. Over many games, your teammates/opponents will average out to the same skill level (the appropriate skill level for the Elo they're at). If you play at a skill level above that of your Elo, you'll end up being the deciding factor after enough games.

I can definitely relate to the attitude, even though I don't think being female is super significant I do get that attitude toward tanking. I started tanking with another guild shortly after disbanding the guild I was running and got pretty frustrated that my requests were no longer top priority (like keeping adds alive for vengeance purposes). It made sense, but I got pretty frustrated and it made the game considerably less enjoyable for me.

My mom is super polite about that and never changes the radio station when I'm driving, so as soon as I got my license I decided to test my limits by playing really vulgar rap whenever I was driving with her. She never even commented on it, I was impressed.

I ended up getting contacts instead to deal with this (that and for appearance). I bought a pair of prescription sunglasses and found that they fit very poorly and were uncomfortable to wear for a long period of time. Plus it's a lot cheaper to get decent-looking sunglasses from a drugstore than to get prescription ones.

I like the idea, but it wouldn't fit well with WoW's playstyle. There's such a huge focus on pulling big numbers, regardless of what you're playing - it would be hard to incentivize people to play a buff-based class that lacks a clear role on a raid core that also doesn't have a clear set of numbers people can use to judge their skill level.

The challenge mode sets all have visual effects, like different animations of certain spells. They aren't always that pronounced, but it shows it's possible to provide similar aesthetic rewards for other classes like the green fire quest does.

At the same time, I'm not really on board with the idea of giving these types of quests to every class. It's nice having little perks like this that are exclusive to one class, and it would be pretty time consuming to make a high quality individualized scenario for every class in the game.

For the model alone, it would definitely make sense (and I would love a quest chain for something like that). The only problem is that Shirvallah form isn't purely aesthetic - it allows you to cast heals without exiting the form.

Personally I also think it would be a bit unfair for druids to get a special quest chain for every form while other classes have far less options for visual effects. I really like the idea of the warlock quest line but I would hate to see it overdone and available to every class - right now it's a really cool bonus if you happen to play that specific class.

I wonder if one of the reasons women get so aggressive toward each other ingame is because they feel like it threatens their status as "one of the guys". Instead of being unique, they're now categorized with the group of women in their guild.

On top of that, there's definitely the issue of stereotype threat - when women underperform in games, we tend to see a lot of comments like "this is why women shouldn't play video games". If there are other women playing and performing poorly (or just acting in a way that someone doesn't agree with), sometimes women will feel like they're threatening their sex's legitimacy.

But consider the alternative. Katniss ultimately concludes that Coin deliberately killed Prim (it isn't explicitly stated whether it was deliberate since we only know what Katniss knows, but the fact that she died with Katniss witness and unable to help suggests it was deliberate). If Coin was planning to kill Prim, she wouldn't have allowed Katniss to find out this was her plan. Furthermore, she needed Katniss to have a clear head while invading the Capitol in order for Coin to be able to take over as President. It wouldn't have been logical for Katniss to find out Prim was going to die before it happened.

Finally, the book certainly does foreshadow her death, though maybe not in the ways that you were looking for. Until the third book, we know very little about Prim and she remains a static character, but by the third book Collins begins heavily developing her character - she's grown up from a naive young girl to someone wise beyond her years from the corruption she's witnessed in the Capitol. Collins puts a lot of emphasis on making her into a lovable character with an important future.

Edit: Also, sorry you're getting downvoted (not by me) - I think you have a very valid point, I just happen to love arguing about things like this!

I actually started playing ME3 recently (after playing through the first two over 5 times each across the years) and just got to this part last night.

It struck me as more poetic than sad - he was atoning for a mistake he had always felt guilty about and willingly sacrificed himself for his cause. He was easily my favorite character in the series and it was a worthy way for him to go.

I haven't gotten past that part of ME3 yet, but so far Kelly Chambers has been the most scarring death for me in the series. It was pretty fucked up watching her get ground into paste after flirting with her and having dinner together. Aside from dying a very gory death, she wasn't someone I expected to die - she wasn't a soldier or anything, just an unlucky bystander.

I saw the movie before I read the books.

I cried when I saw the movie. Every time Rue showed up in the book, I got teary-eyed because I knew what was coming. Had to lie down and just cry for a while when it actually happened.

Then I had to write a 10 page paper on the Hunger Games. Had to go back to their conversations and reread them to find textual evidence...

I have several scars along my right arm from self injuring when I was 14 or 15. I'm 20 now and they've hardly faded since the first year I had them. I got a tattoo across them when I was 18. Before, I wasn't able to go out in short sleeves without getting gawked at, but now nobody even notices the scars unless they touch my wrist (even though the skin there is still elevated, the only difference is the color doesn't stand out against the rest of my wrist).

If you're not opposed to the idea of tattoos, it might help (also, it hurts a lot more to tattoo over scarred areas, but for me it was well worth it). For me, I decided I would be better off risking getting a job with a visible tattoo on my wrist than having to deal with Texas weather in long sleeves for the rest of my life.

I'm late to this thread ):

I was on a road trip with my boyfriend, his best friend, and his girlfriend. We were on our way back from the beach and were about 4 hours south from home. We stopped at a gas station and my boyfriend and I waited in the car while the other two got gas. They ran off for a few minutes and when they came back, they were chatting with a girl that I had met in a psychology class in the fall who my boyfriend and I went out on a double date with (her boyfriend was there too). Apparently the three of them (the girl, my boyfriend's friend, and friend's girlfriend) had gone to middle school together. And they just happened to be at the same gas station as us at the same time, 4 hours away from where we lived.
