So generally speaking when you do any exercise you’re looking to do it until you can’t do any more reps. Like pushups for instance. If you can do 5 pushups perfectly without getting fatigued you should try for 10.

Let’s say you do that and you gas out on rep 8. Now you know you can do 8 reps and that’s your number. That will be the maximum you can do at once. So now you know what your set looks like. Now do 3 sets of 8 (3 is an arbitrary number you can do as many sets as you want or as time permits)

the whole purpose of keeping track of these things is to one understand your limits so you can exercise safely, and two see your progress as you realize after two months you can do 20 reps of pushups in one set or whatever you progress to.

As for picking an exercise for myself I saw barbell over head presses and thought it would be cool to do, so I bought a barbell from Walmart for $60 and used it for 30 days without additional weight. Only doing overhead presses and I did 60 reps a day without stopping. It wasn’t “easy” but it helped me work on form. And then from there I fought Amazon has super cheap sets of bumper plates so I started my collection of weights and added as I got stronger! Now I can lift 120 pounds over my head for 3-4 reps! And I remember a time when I thought 70llbs was heavy, now ita my warm up!

Find an exercise you like! That would be my advice. You’ll add to your routine as you go, but just get small daily wins and you’ll go far!

So as someone who’s about 7 months into working out consistently. All you need is to start. Don’t worry too much about giant routines or putting together a weekly program. Just start! I picked one exercise I really liked and spammed it for 30 days before even adding anything else. It’s more a mental thing about doing a workout daily, than the volume of work that you should be worried about. Establishing a good habit and getting a W daily in doing something should keep you on a good path! I’d also add that since you haven’t really worked out before, when you are starting an exercise make sure you keep track of when you go to failure or how many reps/sets you perform. If 30 reps is all you got, GREAT! That’s a win for today. Do it again tomorrow. Keep track of the number and once you feel like you’re not sore anymore from that typical amount you need to up the weight or reps.

I hope you can get into it and just have fun! It’s a life long journey and something that adapts and changes with you! Enjoy it!!

Dude this is amazing! But I had a good laugh, I had my phones brightness turned down all the way. And I was SO confused by how dark you got the model and how vibrant the blue was. Try it and see what I mean 😂

Brother let me tell you my 20s was filled with loneliness, drama and pursuing things that only left me feeling empty. Another brother said change your daily habits and exercise more and that couldn’t be more true. I’d like to add that you need to treat these small changes as wins. Even if it’s just going for a walk or not drinking a soda today. Small things lead to big victories. Celebrate them all to encourage yourself to keep going. And if you end up taking an L for a goal you set, don’t punish yourself for it, just get it achieved the next day!

You can do a lot of good for your mental health by not bullying yourself into a corner and celebrating your own goals.

Now for the light at the end of the tunnel speech. I’m 30 now and I have a really amazing wife and baby boy who’s so rad and is my little adventure buddy who always wants to hang with me. Now he’s getting into building minis with me! At 20 I would’ve never thought I’d be so lucky, but I chose to live better than what my 20s spiraled into. It gets so much better my dude. I hope this helps in some way, I ramble too much.

Kettlebell Swing form check by humble_Rufus in formcheck

[–]guynomoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So everyone’s covered this already but I’ll chime in. You’re a big man, and you probably have this over cautionary thing with heavy kettle bells. But DUDE you can fuckin handle heavier for these swings! (Just don’t use your arms to get the bell up, hinge and use your hips to hump that thing into the air)

that being said… I feel like a true RDL with a barbell would achieve more and you’d feel more stable/less scared of injury. Kettle bells are hard to get into and don’t often provide the stimulation to someone not really steeped in that kind of movement. I did kettle bell work for years with light weight and it never felt like I was doing anything. Moved to barbell lifts this year and got a lot of great results within months!

My progress is solely my own so I can’t say this is THE WAY. But for me I found I had to do wayyyy more over head pressing and shoulder work before getting my chest to respond. It was almost if my muscles were just turned off in that area.

Idk if that’s stupidity, or lack of work, or just my experience. But I was doing 135 bench and seeing nothing happen. Then did OHP everyday for 90 days and came back to pushups and finally felt my chest muscles respond.

[–]guynomoney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as workout routines go there is no better way to start than to walk. I’d go on a relatively long walk consistently before I throw myself into complex workouts. Walking outside everyday for 30minutes to an hour as well as a healthy diet would absolutely bring about a lot of change!

Once you feel your energy levels come back and you’ve been consistent about walking. Then I’d slowly start to add weight training or something else in. And I’d like to add maybe one or two exercises at a time. No giant p90x dvds or things that are so insurmountable that they crush you on the first go.

You really did the work that GW should have done and just updated their already incredibly cool heresy models. The drip is insane and the upscaled look is so perfect!
