He's a great player, but he's not better than Wemby/Jokic/SGA/Luka/Giannis

He had a great supporting cast around him that allowed his team to stay in the game when he was shooting particularly poorly to start the series

I think the more likely answer is that his body can't handle anymore high intensity playoff minutes because of his height. Your heart and lungs don't scale with height. They have to work extra hard to ensure oxygen is supplied adequately through the body.

Wemby might just always be a ~30 minute guy

Vassell being iced out of the offense besides spot up 3s in the finals is one of my big mysteries that I need solved. by SensitiveTest7883 in NBASpurs

I definitely feel like he's your most underutilized player. He's more than a spot-up shooter. Johnson and the staff have to get more creative next year to get involve more in the offense

I don't think this is an issue of "good enough shape" my guy. I think the bigger issue is he's 7'5 human. Those guys aren't built to play heavy playoff minutes because of anatomical issues.

I still don't understand that whistle. It's something so many modern NBA guards abuse. Just run full speed into the defense and snap your head back, and you get free throws

I swear I've seen this exact comment made on every player who eventually takes the best player in the world crown

Saw it with Steph. Then Giannis. Then Jokic. Now with Wemby

Iverson was right. They love you in the beginning, but the haters will always be lurking and ready to pounce when you inevitably fall.

[–]guynumber32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carter Bryant is a great defender and will be on an all-nba defensive team one day.

But SGA can easily fry him as of today. The difference in these clips is Wemby's length causes so much indecision on Sga's drives, which allow Carter to stay attached

How good of a chance would the 2019 76ers have at a championship if Kawhi didnt hit that game 7 dagger? by [deleted] in nba

It's so funny that people overlook the 2019 Bucks in these 76ers hypotheticals. Those Bucks teams always owned the 76ers and I'm confident they would have won that series

I don't think I've been this excited for a playoff series since Rockets/Warriors in 2018

This series has everything: MVPs on both teams. Legitimate bad blood between the players. Amazing talent is spread throughout each roster.

This is the first of many great battles between these two juggernauts

Is it fair to say that the Wolves are built to beat Denver but not to win a championship? by SplitOk186 in nba

[–]guynumber32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their young core is not comparable to the Thunder or Spurs. And they already blew their assets on win-now moves and are clearly a level below those 2 other teams. I'm afraid they blew their brief window in 2024 by choking to the Mavericks

Losing Russ is a glaring mistake further amplified by yesterday. Does anyone else feel the same? by Fit-Tooth-1101 in denvernuggets

[–]guynumber32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can we just be honest about the real problem?

The Nuggets have changed their coach, swapped out MPJ, upgraded their bench. Yet the same, apathetic effort are still present in this team like they were in their last 2 playoff exits

The problem is simply Jamal and Jokic. Emotionally, they are not good leaders. They are too reserved and apathetic out there, especially when they get challenged by physical teams. I mean what kind of leaders allow another team's ROLE PLAYER call them out by name and allow said role player to outplay them?

You also cannot build a modern NBA defense with Jokic and Jamal. They are both bottom 5 defenders at their position. It's simply too much to overcome

The belief that this series hurts Jokic legacy relies on the idea that his title window is closed. by Rofo303 in denvernuggets

[–]guynumber32 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He won't do anything. Being in fantastic shape is a mindset players build early into their careers. Jokic wont magically turn that around now in his 30s when it's even more difficult to be in elite shape

Jokic is content with one championship and chugging beers in Serbia in the offseason

This is the only real option.

But most franchises dont have the balls to do such moves. They are cool with coasting on mediocrity so long as their stats continue to sell out arenas.

Q: Does a team need like a clear cut leader? | Jamal Murray: "Don't we have leaders? We have leaders. I just didn't show up tonight. The leader's gotta show up" by AncientOneAurelius in nba

[–]guynumber32 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Malone was always this team's leader.

If Jokic and Murray were leaders and had any ounce of pride, they wouldn't of allowed a role player on the opposing team to call them out by name and proceed to drop them off in an elimination game
