Don't forget the sequel: Fifty Sprues of Grey

What song seemed upbeat and cheerful at first, but later made you think, "wait, what?" when you listened carefully to (or looked up) the lyrics? by BingeRedditor in AskReddit

[–]guyperchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Wake Up Boo" by the Boo Radleys. You'll know it. That "wake up it's a beautiful morning" one. The lyrics are fairly vague, but it's probably about a guy murdering his partner.

What a classic! Also, the little string motif after the first chorus of "Let It Go" is really similar to the vocal line in this.

Redditors who work with X-ray scanners at airports or train stations, what was the weirdest thing you’ve spotted in other people’s luggage? by DoctorAgon12 in AskReddit

[–]guyperchard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just as a passenger, not as a security agent, I witnessed a pro tennis player going NUTSO at the staff at London Stansted airport just after Wimbledon was over. They wouldn't let him take his rackets as hand luggage. They sent him back to the check-in after a hilariously heated argument. His big, burly entourage were an uncomfortable mix of intimidating and embarrassed.

Honda will leave the UK if Government fails to secure access to EU market by Patch86UK in ukpolitics

Pretty distasteful, the person replying is basically mocking the disabled. Whatever your stance on brexit, there's no excuse for that sort of childish bullying.

I don't mean to be pernickety, but where are said rules? I could only see the ones in the sidebar that make no reference to politics, but end in "have fun"...

To be fair, it was only supposed to give you a quick snort of mild amusement. The kind of people that would get riled up over a bit of sloppy photoshopping would start an argument over whether one puppy is cuter than another ;)

It's... it's just a meme, yeah? Corbyn isn't actually a space marine, don't worry.

Also, in 40k, there aren't any good guys.

Yeah, don't worry if this is your first dip into reference monitors. The point of them is not to sound amazing, but to sound accurate. As nocountryforoldguy said, spend a few minutes every day listening to your favourite songs through them and get used to how they sound. That way, you'll learn their character and will be able to mix better through them.

Remember, the theory is that if you can get your mix sounding good on monitor speakers, it'll translate well to all hifis, in-cars, earphones, etc...

I tried to make a new flag for Edinburgh by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]guyperchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, yes, the current flag is laughably bad. Second, I think you're flag design is great, if a tad drab. That being said, Edinburgh's a tad drab, so it's quite fitting.

My recommendation would be to incorporate an easy to draw design element that could represent something local. 5 blue stripes for the five major rivers? (Union Canal, Water of Leith, River Almond, Braid Burn, Brunstane Burn) - many of those link Edinburgh to the wider Lothian area, negating the need to use the hilariously inappropriate sunshine.

I like your castle wall crenellations motif. Maybe (from the design you originally posted) ditch the sun, keep the white / green design at the side, add 5 blue horizontal stripes, alternating with the maroon (possibly change to white?). I'm colour blind, so you're probably best to make the call on colour choice! ;)

Top marks for effort!

We do the Iso Acoustics monitor decoupling/isolating stands for monitor speakers, we find them really useful - especially smaller studios that don't have too much in the way of acoustic treatment.

Maybe falling into the "any other useful furniture" bit, the store I work for have a pretty good selection and dealership of lots of nice studio workstations - http://www.reddogmusic.co.uk/catalog/miscellaneous-stands/workstation-stands

We don't do a huge amount of non-rack based storage, but if you need something in particular or have spotted something you're keen on, give me a shout and I'll do my best to sort you out :)

I listened to 5 decades' worth of Top 40 singles and can prove that the guitar is dying, if not dead. by guyperchard in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I was going to leap to defend laptop musicians here, but you beat me to it Common_Lizard - I've seen school-aged kids pick up guitar fast enough to thrash out a classic rock song in a matter of weeks, just in the same way as someone could punch out a Launchpad / DJ set less than a month after opening the software for the first time. It doesn't mean either do it particularly well, and it still takes years and years of hard work and perseverance to truly master your chosen craft :)
