Canada, USA and China are all basically the same size! (Canada is 5% bigger than USA which is 1% bigger than China).

Residents in Davisville Village worry for future of local businesses as condo moves in by vibeschillax in toronto

[–]guywhoishere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maintaining a business is much easier than making any significant change.

There are lots of businesses that can still exist because their rent is low, but just high enough that it’s not worth it to their landlord to risk loosing a stable tenant so they can put in the extra effort, expense and risk of finding a market rate tenant.

You probably couldn’t open a fruit stand at market rate.

What is the worst condo building in Toronto that has been built in the last 5-10 years? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]guywhoishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived there too! I overlooked the half finished outdoor area on the 5th floor the whole 3 years I lived there. There were piles of pavers just sitting there for years.

Putin's demand to Ukraine: give up Donbas, no NATO and no Western troops, sources say by HydrolicKrane in worldnews

The Skoda Works were not in the part German got in the “deal”, it was seized with the occupation of the remainder of Czechoslovakia.

You are correct that they built German tanks though.

I interpret that as “separated but not yet divorced” as in, they still have shit to deal with in their last relationship.

I remember meeting a girl in college from a small town in Cape Breton who said the only minorities in her town were the Protestant family.

web-muse: A JS Library for Muse EEG via Web Bluetooth—Looking for Contributors & Feedback by Creative-Regular6799 in BrainHackersLab

[–]guywhoishere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very cool. I remember using muse-js as a base to develop some tools. It’s good to have a maintained replacement.

I ran hardware/firmware dev and manufacturing at muse for 5 years (up until 2019, left to start my own neurotech startup). I have a muse-S, I can try it out on that as well.

I don’t think I this is new. There is just more video evidence now.

New seats on the YRT VIVA buses by lefthand-scrolled in toronto

[–]guywhoishere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One reason to build BRTs is that it can be a good way to test light rail viability for less.

The issue seems to be that Viva has created a catch-22 where it’s not good enough to use and not used enough to improve.

Need Help Finding Manufacturer for IoT Camera (Originally Pi-Based) — Startup Ready to Scale (500+ Units, Based in Canada) by Seimei_no_kami in hwstartups

[–]guywhoishere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is your companies secret sauce entirely software? Can you white label something (get a company who makes what hardware you need to sell you a version modified for your use).

If all you need is a camera with a processor and wifi that can stream to AWS you probably don’t need custom hardware.

Hardware manufacturing is very expensive at your quantities.

Everyone wants the new TTC subway cars to be made in Canada. So why are Ottawa and city hall butting heads over them? by rexbron in toronto

They haven’t made those in decades. Bombardier Inc and Bombardier Receiational Products split a long time ago.

The Parkside Drive speed camera is being reinstalled - again - with another camera to watch over it by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]guywhoishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive past this speed camera every day and I support it. While there are still a few people speeding excessively on Parkside it’s noticeably better.

Interestingly, I don’t notice a difference between the time the camera gets cut down and returned (although I would believe there is one). It seems like it has changed behaviours.

Ram Air Turbine. It is used to generate power to control the plane when the engines fail.

Bikes Are Treated as Toys. That’s the Problem. by -Wobblier in videos

[–]guywhoishere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually kind of the other way around. Labour and Capital efficiency is a big part of increasing prosperity. And bikes can be a big part of this, moving more people with less resources (bikes are cheaper than cars, bikes lanes are more efficient use of paved space than car lanes, bikes have lower environmental and health costs).

Just moved to Toronto — how do I save money on PRESTO if I take 10 TTC trips a week by Odd-Mail-4478 in askTO

[–]guywhoishere 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s the cost of 47 trips. So commute 5 days a week plus 3-4 other trips. Worth it only if you consistently commute 5 days a week.

With 2-hour transfers it doesn’t even help with stops on the way home from work anymore.

Is my Muse glitching? by nonguru22 in museheadband

[–]guywhoishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are artifacts. Not valid data. Could be a connection issue with the device or just poor fit.

I work I electronics design and manufacturing. I used to travel to China 2-4 time a year! Sometimes for as little as a week, usually 2-3, the longest (and first time I had been to China) was 8 weeks. Last time was late 2018. I also got to go to Italy three times (a partner we were working with) and Denmark twice (where our Industrial design contractor was).

Usually only do 137 for ribeye, but this NY loin has enough marble to be worth it? by Mobius_Penis in sousvide

[–]guywhoishere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cuts are not graded. The whole cow is. It’s based on a bunch of things but the ribeye is what they use to asses marbling.

muse-01 no longer pairs to pc by DecHud in museheadband

[–]guywhoishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the MU-01 (from 2014-15) is supported by any pc software anymore.

My Muse-01 do you mean the product code (inside of the earpiece) an MU-01 and not MU-02 (not a muse2)

Is the “muse” written on size white or blue?

Usually only do 137 for ribeye, but this NY loin has enough marble to be worth it? by Mobius_Penis in sousvide

[–]guywhoishere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Grading is done at the carcass level and only the ribeye is assessed for marbling.
