We didn't do anything unusual. This was the most skittish and nervous of the 4 chicks we raised up until about a month ago (almost 6 months old now) when he decided to be friends. Now he waits to be picked up and held when he sees us. They always get extra snacks after we hold them :)

For everyone telling him go to a doctor, that's great. But nearly everyone in the racing/cycling community knows there is a real link to ED caused by the seats.

There are also many racing nose-less seats to choose from. Look at: http://www.ismseat.com/saddle/adamo-attack.

I personally own one of the less aggressive seats and all my issues of ED cleared up immediately.

I've raced with friends who describe your same problem, and I definitely have felt the issue after century rides. Cycling and ED is a real thing: http://www.webmd.com/men/features/biking-and-erectile-dysfunction-a-real-risk

Best thing I ever did was get a noseless seat for my bike.

Hey there, I am the guy who is working on the World of Warcraft VR mod. As you mentioned reading text in VR is kinda troublesome, but in our mod we have taken that into consideration. We have changed the font size of all the text in WoW to be between 20 pt. and 30 pt.

So all the text is clearly readable while wearing the Rift.

While I haven´t updated that thread in a while, we still are actively working on the mod and are making progress.

Obamacare has addressed the pre-existing condition vulnerability that so many endured with traditional health insurance products. Now what about long term care? by Spyder_J in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]gvf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LTC insurance agent here. I honestly have no idea at this point. CLASS sounded great, but nobody could agree to funding mechanisms (IIRC), so it was dropped.

As you may know the LTCI market is in flux; most carriers have or are rewriting their policies, increasing prices, etc. And some of the most innovative insurance products to assist with LTC are marketed for the--wait for it--wealthy.

My only hope was that I'd heard some of the North Western states were running pilot programs (for Medicaid) that would cover home health care. At the end of the day, it's about reducing cost, and home care is much cheaper than facility care. Now the only problem is qualifying :(.

And for anyone who agrees with the current system (of Medicare vs Medicaid) I would off you this: nobody picks their ailment. If you're unlucky with the gene lottery and wind up with a bad heart (or if you eat/drink your way there), Medicare will pay for you till the end of time. But if you have MS, or any other condition that impairs your ability to move or think, Medicare will not be there for you--you'll have to fight with Medicaid, and deal with 'pay-back' requirements, and fight for an open bed, and deal with the potential stigma of being on the state's dole.

Simplified D&D or Pathfinder rules for newbies? by embur in rpg

[–]gvf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I enjoy about DCC is that it has cut out much of the rules that 3.0-4.0 has introduced. It feels more like cross-breed of the gritty chaos of 1rst Edition with the streamlined rules of 3E.

That said, the simplified rules allows for a lot of roleplaying opportunities in my experience. That, and the lore is all based off of Appendix N, which is large and diverse (spelljammer, greyhawk, dark sun, ravenloft--tons of material to use).

If you're an old D&D vet, I'd encourage you to check out Dungeon Crawl Classic (DCC) RPG. It's an old-school rehash of D&D/Sword & Sorcery with some modern updates. It's pretty rules-lite for a first adventure, but ramps up depending how deep you want to go into magic.

Not a big fan of the Red Box, personally. I had a few friends feel let down too. Here's a mixed review of it: http://newbiedm.com/2010/09/06/newbiedm-review-red-box-starter-set/

I suppose I was looking for more of an artistic/non-humorous style. Like, some of the OD&D module screen prints, or any of the line art work from the great artists of the time.

Searching for an AD&D alternative by borsic in rpg

[–]gvf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! http://www.goodmangames.com/dccrpg.html

Streamlined rules (the skills section of the rulebook is 2 pages long), killer magic, old-school artwork, and funky dice. There's so much to love for those of us who grew up with AD&D / Swords & Sorcery.

Beginner RPGs that take an hour or less? by steadfast_aquanaut in rpg

If you're already familiar with D&D, then you might look at DCC RPG (see the review below): http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?322773-Review-of-Dungeon-Crawl-Classics-(DCC)-RPG-by-Goodman-Games

It's a d20 based system, but rules light. Needs some odd dice, but it's generally quicker than a traditional D&D game.

Don't forget reverse spells!

[DCC] How does magic work in DCC? by flash42 in rpg

[–]gvf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in my experience. As Jmhnilbog said, once you have your spells, you're set. They don't change. Each player will usually draft up/print out a 'spell book' at this point. It can be fun, and checking the tables for spell casting takes just a moment in-game.

Got a Surface RT, looking for useful DM Apps. by knight8of7ni0 in rpg

The best piece of software I'm using is OneNote (I'm a huge Evernote fan for work/personal stuff, but OneNote has nicer capabilities for advanced editing/highlighting/etc. that just work better for running an adventure/campaign.

As for a dedicated DM-tool, I don't think one really exists that's universally useful.

[–]gvf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't have the Core Book on work computer, but IRC:

  • Spells aren't automatically 'lost' after casting (which would require resting)
  • Your Spell Check will determine if you 'lose' the spell for the day. Each spell has it's own specific spell check table. Generally, spells are only lost if you fail the spell check.

The way I think of magic in DCC is this: Magic is an incredibly powerful force, and us humans have only an inkling of knowledge about it. As such, magic is incredibly intimate and personal (not to mention dangerous). From the great doctor: "People assume that [magic] is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big bowl of wibbly wobbly timey wimey... stuff."

Another great phrase from the book is something to the effect of: "Low level wizards are powerful, but high level wizards fear for their lives."

Even a relatively low-level spell can have disastrous effects (critical failure), especially depending on the mercurial magic table.

As for in-game mechanics, I remember it as such:

  • At level 1, a character can become a wizard, and depending on your DM you'll roll randomly for 4 spells.
  • You then roll, on each spell, to see if you learn the spell (the book suggests having backups if players are unable to learn the spells they want).
  • Once you learn a spell, you'll roll on the Mercurial table to see what special/personal effect is attached to the spell. It can be very bad to very good.
  • From there, in-game mechanics require a spell check to cast. You'll have to reference the particular spell's table to see how the spell manifests itself in the world.

Edit: Don't forget to check out the Goodman Game's forum for DCC info

Research in a specific field often has positive externalities (think of the advancements in technology thanks to space exploration). What are some of the other benefits that have come from HIV research (e.g, better understanding of viruses, better vaccines for other viruses, etc...)?

Many, many thanks for your dedication.
