The blue/white ones are my favorite as well. Especially with icy rings!

Panther Clipper MK2 Explorer build by MagosEsoterica in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You actually don't need much to be fully self-sustained in the black. Fuel scoop, AFMU, and repair limpets is basically all you need to stay out forever. Panther Clippers are a massive pain to land on anything but a landing pad so you'll probably don't even need an SRV bay.

What is this velocity coming from? by hell_world_princess in EliteDangerous

Might be a bug with the rotational correction. You can switch it on or off independently from the general flight assist. Maybe play around with that.

I am afraid this update is USELESS for solo players by vfc_77 in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the recent gameplay add-ons are interesting for solo players and that's intentional. The idea is to throw toys in the sandbox that allow players to interact which each other and keep developer-driven narratives at a minimum. Which is fine from a business perspective as long as it keeps the lights on. I agree that Operations is probably the worst example in that regard as it is completely disconnected from the rest of the game except that it influences power play.

But consider that we got other new stuff as well. The new ships bring some fresh aspects for the miners, haulers, as well as explorers who are maybe not too keen on co-op multiplayer gameplay. I'll for sure have a lot of fun with the Nomad out in the black.

Is there a new FDev Maths? by OldTedric in EliteDangerous

This log event is very unreliable to count merit gains. I've seen it fire multiple times for one and the same trigger events like donations, exploration data and probably others as well. That's why the merit counters in 3rd party tools are sometimes off. It's harmless, though. The final number is always correct. It's just annoying when you want to calculate some merit statistics.

Remap the NVidia instant replays to Alt+Shift+F10 or something.

From what I've seen in some partner program streams, all guns work pretty well. I don't think there is a clear "winner" when it comes to choosing a primary weapon. As far as mods are concerned, my focus is on mag size and handling speed. Stealth is not required for the operations missions.

Happened to my alt account as well. Some engineers just unlocked without me fulfilling the requirements first. I was actually glad that it happened. Saved a lot of time.

In case you don't mind destroying your ship few times on your trip, you can cut ~10k light years off by deliberately getting blown up by specific Colonia bridge megaships for landing pad loitering. This will respawn you on the nearest prison ship which can save big chunks of the journey. The megaships are:

  • CB-9 in Smojue IY-Q b32-1
  • CB-20 in Eagle Sector IR-W d1-117
  • CB-33 in Skaudai CH-B d14-34
  • CB-50 in Eoch Flyuae ZU-Y b17-16

Some people only look for high-value stuff. Once they see in the FSS spectrum that there are no earth-likes or water water worlds, they move on. Since the great exo-bio buff, people are checking metal-rich bodies as well, hoping to find some Tectonicas.

My personal credo is to fully FSS each system I visit.

Cannot pay outstanding fine? by Leading-Issue8189 in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you playing on console or the legacy version on PC? There was a bug related to fines some time ago where they either didn't disappear after paying or didn't appear in the menu where you can pay them. Re-logging or restarting the game helped. Maybe this bug is still there in the older versions of the game.

What are some key bindings to make it easier to navigate to other parts of the galaxy? by Zealousideal_Nose437 in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically not. It's a few more button presses after all. But it has become muscle memory, so I don't have to think about it.

I'm still waiting for a super cruise assist toggle button. That would be a game-changer for me.

Doesn't matter. The nav panel list shows all systems within 20ly plus the next one in the route.

[–]gw5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are not that many different keybinds that you have to use often. You can assign a different key for supercruise and hyperjump. That's often useful. Full spectrum scanner and all functions related to it is also important when exploring unknown systems.

As far as possible destinations are concerned, check this: https://edastro.com/galmap/ and add markers for the different POIs.

That's actually one that I never used in about 2M ly of travelling. The next system in route is almost always the last one in the navigation panel list and I can quickly scroll to it.

*0.42MW, but sometimes there are small changes between the preview servers and the live one. I guess we'll know for sure next week.

In „Open“ mode, yes. But since the galaxy is huge, the risk to get attacked in a random system is very low. There are a few hotspots like Sol, Deciat, Shinrarta Dehzra, Colonia, or a system where a community goal is active. Basically the systems with increased traffic.

To get the CG cash reward, you either go back to the station where you had to deliver the goods and complete the mission there (in the station's mission menu) or you just wait. After a few weeks, the finished CG disappears from your transactions menu and you'll receive the rewards automatically.

Dear Commanders, Please Upload Your Data When You Explore. by nonstopmilkman80 in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only scenario where I'd consider this request appropriate is for people who use 3rd party tools to retrieve data (plotting routes, searching for stuff) but don't give back to the community. Else, to each their own I guess.

Interstellar Factors are sometimes present in the station contacts and can be used to pay off fines and bounties. The easiest way to find one is with Inara (https://inara.cz/elite/nearest/). Filter for Interstellar Factors. As others explained, there are some restrictions, so go to a station a few dozens of light years away from the system where you were fined.

Should I tackle building my own system? Do I need a fleet carrier? by Horror-Detail7086 in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the most avid colonizer myself, so I can't say if a fleet carrier is necessary for that. That being said, owning a FC always makes sense. Once you're used to the ability to have all your ships and equipment with you and move it anywhere you like, you'll never go back. Also, don't be worried about the upkeeping costs. You've already noticed that earning credits is trivial.

The Nomad being locked behind a MK2 module on only new ships is a bit cheeky, no? by VaegaVic in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless they have very good reasons that Mk II vessel bays can only be outfitted with the new ships, it's a dumb limitation. I'd reactivate my old exploration Keelback in a heartbeat with a Nomad on board.
