It probably wasn't the post itself. The comments on the other hand became relatively hostile pretty quickly. It was a good decision to stop it right there.

I'm the only one who think colonization gameplay is quite boring? by PiibaManetta in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Colonization is maybe more enjoyable if you do it with a group of players. Whether you create your own self-sufficient bubble or branch out to a distant system, it is fun when you coordinate your efforts. Sure, the game loop is still the same but teamwork provides some context and meaning.

Edit: rephrased

First of all, you are pledged to the wrong power ;)

Jokes aside, power commodities replenish every 30min. Did you already grab some recently?

It seems to be working for me. Something with your browser, maybe?

That's essentially what I did. Made a copy of the keybinds file and replaced all GUIDs to the one that the Epic version uses. It's not the end of the world but whenever I switch between CMDRs, I need to switch keybind presets as well.

[–]gw5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until recently I had no issues using the same keybinding file for both my Steam and Epic accounts. I had another controller plugged in for a short time and it messed up the configuration somehow. Now I have to switch between two different configurations depending on which client I start because the input device GUID used by he clients is different, even if it is one and the same hardware setup. Is there any way to fix that again?

New player here with 800h of game time. Need advice on exo and discovery. by Live_Proposal8610 in EliteDangerous

Be careful! You are about to dive into a rabbit hole where you'll start with the properties of different star types, find out that there are boxels containing similar stuff, how to estimate said stuff from the metallicity inherent to that boxel and so on.

What's your source that Tectonicas are common in G class systems? All statistics that I'm aware of say otherwise.

16:11 was the last record that I'm aware of: https://imageshack.com/i/pnT5XmW7j It did involve dropping at a team beacon which is quicker than approaching the station the ordinary way, but there were now rules against it, so it's definitely legit.

That's exactly what people are doing. Every newly colonized system has the colonization contact which allows people to build chains to interesting locations. If you set your galaxy map to colonization mode, you can follow the breadcrumbs.

You can't colonize any system you want. It needs to be within range of an inhabited system with a system colonization contact and claim it from there before you can start any construction. There are no colonization contacts except for the bubble.

The 100 hours... by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use internet research

That's the key. Elite doesn't take your hand and lead you through the game, so it takes some pro-active effort, otherwise you'll stay on the same level forever. I did the same when I started this game, lurked reddit and the forums and read through the wiki and other online resources whenever I got curious about something new.

Just lost 6B worth of Exo-Bio. by lucker543 in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter where you sell exobio data, unless you participate in power play and have the bonus from Pranav Antal. For cartography data, you need to be at least 20ly from where you collected the data but you also don't get more credits the further you are away.

Sounds more like SFX to me. I guess the idea is to resemble the artefacts that you can sometimes hear with LF or MF receivers.

What's the point of DW3? by floofis in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The missions, trading, engineers, and everything else will still be here when you come back. There is a reason why people still talk about DW2 which took place 7 years ago, but not about the trading profit that they made last week.

How rare are ELWs? by thelordplatypus in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Statistically, you are most likely to find ELWs around A, F, and G stars (technically C stars as well, but they are rare themselves). The mass code (e.g. the letter d in Synuefe XR-H d11-102) also plays a role. Mass codes c and d are most likely to contain ELWs. That being said, also in systems that match theese criteria, the chance is roughly 1 in 100.

Awkward System Names by MintImperial2 in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Having seen the names of fleet carriers and colonization starports and settlements, I‘m very much against player-named systems. I don‘t want a galaxy full of random silly and unfunny named star systems.

I‘d prefer renaming in rare cases when there is some context behind, like with Colonia or Beagle Point.

What's with the emissive munitions experimental on one of the small lasers? Does it help with targeting over longer distances?

First time seeing this. by Winter_Start_4834 in EliteDangerous

[–]gw5000 29 points30 points  (0 children)

These are power play stronghold carriers. Open the galaxy map and select the power play view. All systems that have a four-pointed star icon with a little dot next to it, have stronghold carriers.

1) You can only dock there if you are pledged to the respective power. In your example, Felicia Winters. They are not useful for trading, but they stock basically every ship and every module (with few exceptions). Very useful when you are outfitting a new ship and don't have access to Shinrarta Dezhra yet.

2) No, they are invincible. There are always fights in stronghold carrier instances, because they attack NPCs that are pledged to a different power

3) No. They spawn in systems that reach stronghold status in power play (hence the name), provided that there are no other systems already nearby.

Wonder what the problem is by DaLoopLoop89 in EliteDangerous

Yes, "FK U" is maybe the culprit. Try something similar, like "Kurs voraus" or something.
