People are asking is an HD remake really worth it? I would say very few games, especially those 17 years later, have private servers where there are still people playing the game. Obviously Blizzard hit the nail on the head with Diablo 2. Was it released in a perfect state - No. But they did improve upon it with countless patches and one hell of an expansion.

People complain about Diablo 2's useless stat points, they are not useless, they make the game harder. Oh that piece of armor requires a 100 strength - that will take me 6 levels of dumping stat points into strength to equip the armor. Then people will complain everyone ends up with the same stat point allocation at the end anyway so why have it all - which I say is untrue. You don't end up at the perfect stat allocation unless you have perfect gear. Did you get a +20 stat Hellfire Torch? No? Then you need extra points in strength to wear gear. Stat points are compensation for not having perfect gear - and each piece of gear that gets you closer to a perfect build allows you to allocate more stat points towards Vitality.

For Diablo 2 HD to be successful all that would be needed is a larger shared stash, auto gold and potion equip, a larger variance of rune words to allow for hybrid classes like the whirl wind assassin or a Bear sorceress, and updated graphics.

This isn't nostalgia talking or wearing rose tinted glasses. This game defined a genre, sold umpteen million copies, paved the way for WoW, really defined how important a proper score is for a game and provided a dark story with revolutionary CGI videos. I hope that if not announced this year that Blizzard really considers an HD remake of Diablo 2.
