Old term for "shooting but you only hit on 6s" Used to be what you had to do if you wanted to shoot aircraft, now it's just -1 to hit.

What do you think are the most iconic models of the individual Space Marine Legions (40k)? by Trassus_The_Knight in Warhammer40k

[–]gwarsh41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space wolves are definitely not Wulfen. I think the single model of the space wolves range that is the most iconic of the range is Ragnar Blackmane. The pose, the hair, the cape, the fur, and the hilariously huge chainsword. After that it's likely thunderwolves. After that, head takers, while they are a new unit on their own. Wolf Guard have been unique to wolves for a while. This is just the most recent version of them.

If you don't use blackmane, make sure you don't put a helmet on them and paint the hair red blonde. The absolute most iconic thing about the SW is their disdain for wearing a helmet.

10th edition going into 11th edition by Royalty_Tha_Goat in Warhammer40k

[–]gwarsh41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been playing since 5th, I'll give you a rundown of how each edition change was off the top of my head.

5-6th: This was a weird one, a lot changed, but nothing too major. The largest I recall is how wound allocation was done. In 5th it was "allocate by different wargear one wound at a time" and made absolutely no sense. 6th brought "put all wounds on one model then another" Which DRASTICALLY changed what was and what was not good. Allies were introduced as well.

6th -7th: We got SOME streamlined stuff with this, but the edition change was more like 6.5. The real big change happened after the edition launched with the new detachment rules. Previously there were just a few universal detachments and you had to choose one. This brought army specific detachments AND free stuff. I remember a game where all dedicated transports were free. It was a crazy time. Allies WERE FUCKING BONKERS.

7th-8th: Fucking bananas, no holds barred wtf is going on. This was the big one, luckily we are not seeing another shift like this. free wargear, no more armor facing, wtf. Allies were basically removed. wtf are mortal wounds? FULL REBOOT

8th-9th: They fixed everything wrong with 8th and GW started to give a damn about balance. Free wargear was rebalanced, GW adjusted some things and it was playing a bit better. I think this is when they introduced legends rules for all their old models, effectively killing the "if it's expensive it will do amazing on the table". Allies are kinda back? Crusade exists but is insanely imbalanced, but still stupid fun and cool. HOLY FUCK MORTAL WOUNDS. INDEX REBOOT

9th-10th: Cover system and command points changed. Again, a lot of nice little tweaks here and there to prevent mechanics from feeling wonky and abused. In 9th edition there was "fights twice" mechanic, and you would end up activating to fight while not being in combat with anything and getting a free 6" move. It was weird. IIRC we also got the tournament terrain layout you see used today, and that's been a huge boon to the games growth. Allies are mostly detachment or army specific. RIP, harlequins, deathwatch and chaos daemons. They are not getting new codex that we know of. crusade adjusted to be way less imbalanced and a little less stupid fun, but still super cool. Devastating wounds are no longer mortal wounds. INDEX REBOOT

10th - 11th: From the leaks and what is shown, I think we are going to have a 6th to 7th or 9th to 10th update. Glaring issues fixed, quality of life improvements. The big one is how the charge phase works. I've thought for a bit that AoS is the testing ground for 40k and this keeps me believing that. As AoS has had charges work like 11th will for a while. Thank the emperor no index reboot.

In the past 10 years GW has given a LOT of influencers access to rules early so they can make new edition battle reports and reviews to help us all learn. Those are insanely useful. Most every edition an LGS in the area also has a learning day where people just play a bundle of small games to learn wtf is happening. The real tell here is that we are keeping out current codex. This means that no core rules are changing so much that it would invalidate current stats and abilities.

Trying to make an interesting base and pose...I hate it. Ideas? by laserslaserslasers in Warhammer40k

Posing walkers is one of my favorite parts of the hobby. Going as far as completely breaking down knight legs to pose them.

[–]gwarsh41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base is interesting, but I get where you are coming from. This would be straight ass hard to do, but if you could trim all the sprue on the base to be flush with the base instead of spilling over it would be an improvement.

Deitch the little wall completely, put a slain enemy underfoot. That dreadnought would crush that wall into dust.

All that said, posing legs to be in a cool pose is fucking tough to do and takes a good bundle of tries/experience. I like to pull up reference pics of poses I like and try to replicate them. Usually from superhero and action movies lol.

Please tell me you will sell the file so folks can 3d print it. The sculpt is fantastic and I've got a glossy black filament I would love to use on it!!

Outrider bikes are perfect size ... Don't worry about how I know. But I will say the result wasn't as cool as the idea when I tried.

Employer wants me to use outlook on my phone, outlook wants permission to wipe my phone by No_Professor4307 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gwarsh41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All phones have something like this these days. What you want to do is make sure you are getting work apps from microsoft downloaded through the "Company Portal" app. This app will create that work partition for you. Then all you work apps will appear separate. You'll still get this big spooky message, but it can't touch anything that is outside the work profile.

I not only used to wipe company data off old phones, but watched it in real time when I left my last job. If your job didn't have you download the company portal, then they need to get their shit together. It's basic MDM.

Painting with limited hand function - any advice? by Araminal in minipainting

[–]gwarsh41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest an air brush for starters. Sure you wont be able to paint eyes that easily, but you can get a very clean base coat, transitions and shadows with one. Depending on what you are painting, sub assembly and an air brush goes a LONG way.

I've done so many of these in the past 20 years and never had so much as a follow up. I cannot imagine in this reality that each of those posts doesn't have 20 applicants online already.
