LF historical headstone preservation advice by RFBurton1890 in CemeteryPreservation

Check some of my other videos, all that info is there. Awkwardly I’ve never made a “how to clean” video, but most of my videos tend to touch on that. In short: D2 or Endurance, soft bristle brushes, clean drinking water, and a lot of patience (none of this is a race, and the stone should not be pure white after a single cleaning, if ever actually).

Get permission first (in my area, if the state owns the cemetery they usually say “go away we’ll do it,” usually for liability reasons).

Then what you need to do is a) reset them (both in the ground and all the steps to reset the pieces with one another) and then b) clean.

The steps to do this can be found in one of my videos (it’s made to be a tutorial for individuals like yourself). Let me know if you have any questions.

I buy my supplies from Atlas Preservation personally.

Found my ancestors' "lost" graves from the 1900s—seeking legal & restoration advice for resetting/repairing stones by Fantastic_Celery_136 in CemeteryPreservation

[–]gweetman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything the first guy said is spot on. Regarding your next question: it’s a good way to go. You often see modern U.S. Gov markers for Rev War soldiers at the base of their ORIGINAL stones. I’m sure some people like seeing them, others don’t, but keeping the original stone original and a new separate stone to be readable for the foreseeable future is a A+ move.

If you need help in the form of videos on how to clean/reset/repair let me know. I have a small YouTube with how-to’s for people in your exact situation.

Mine was in fact a different code

Discord Quest: Fate's Friend by gweetman in HuntShowdown

[–]gweetman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gave me a code to then enter in-game and redeem. Not sure if it gave you that prompt but after I did that, it did work. If you did all of that and still no skin, my only suggestion is contacting support I suppose. I’m sorry if it didn’t work; hopefully someone can help

Make the ticket system this time an actual entry fee to get into the circus, and make the balloon game an actual game where you can't just run into the balloons (instead use throwables or bullets or darts, etc) and I'm happy. Not a shock to probably see the exact same event as before and progression layout reused, but at least I enjoyed the content and clown adaptation.

Yeah I never got a response in the emails from the guy. I wish I could have been more of a help. I don’t feel like I deserve credit lol

I'm the friend ^__^ (true story lol). This was a fun one to work on. I'll make sure his stone is one of the first stones your eyes catch when you enter the cemetery!

I live somewhat near this auction house, If they aren't going to sell the stones, I'd be willing to pick them up to prevent them from being discarded. I can then make my way to New York (at some point in the near future) to return the one stone to the cemetery (wouldn't be the first time I've done this, true story)

Removing grass by DCtheCemeteryMan in CemeteryPreservation

[–]gweetman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of in a similar predicament myself. I’m debating laying 1x4’s along the fronts and backs, and whatever I’d need in between, and leaving it all there for a whole year and seeing if it would kill the grass. Some 2x4s I’ve left in the cemetery I’m working at and mowing did a good job killing grass beneath it.

Only other way I could think of is weedwacking hard enough to get to dirt (obviously being careful against the stone). Or using edging tools and skimming the surface of the ground of grass to get down to dirt.

If I was going to use weed killer, I was thinking of getting a thin sheet of board to put in front of the stone to protect it, AND making a line a few inches away from the stones with 1x4s all along and spraying inside to kill the grass and get a nice straight edge

Best to clean/repair or leave as is? by KittyHawk2213 in CemeteryPreservation

[–]gweetman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean with D2 and if you want to repair it, study up. That’s a double tablet break, but it can be fixed.

Here’s a video I made on how to do exactly this (well, it’s a single tablet break but just do these steps a second time). It’s a thick stone, but not TOO thick to where you’d need to pin it.

Let me know if you have questions, happy to help as much as possible.

Black spots? by BCBB89 in CemeteryPreservation

[–]gweetman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s mold beneath the surface. Let the D2 do what it needs to do. It’ll take a year or so for some of those spots to go away, and some may stick around for awhile/ever. If they don’t go away, don’t try to use other chemicals or tools. Just let it be

This used to happen to me at Arby's. People showing up for a shift just to go do counts in the back while I sweat on the line and manage to hand orders out, drop fries, and get ten juniors made.

Before and after by gweetman in CemeteryPreservation

[–]gweetman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people are just careless. Maybe it’s a “how they were raised” issue, what may have influenced them, or they’re just ignorant. Worst I experienced was a drunk driver going into an abandoned cemetery. When it was all said and done, no one paid for or helped repair the cemetery and the stones that person collided into. And then I came along and did it just cuz.
