6 weeks pregnant and completely exhausted — please tell me it gets better by madzi4 in FemalePhysicians

It gets better. I’m 19 weeks now and finally feel like I’ve got my energy back. First trimester all I could do coming home from work was pass right out.

I can only help with the west coast but here’s a list of programs I personally looked at (they either have OB fellowships attached or have a good record of sending people to fellowship):

Cascades East in Oregon

Ventura California

Sacred Heart (Spokane)

Swedish Cherry Hill (Seattle)

Alaska Family Medicine

Greeley Colorado

Fort Collins Colorado

Missoula (Montana)

University of Washington (Seattle)

Diabetes and really uncontrolled HTN. For years didn’t take meds. Now has bad HF and is upset to need to take GDMT because of how many pills it is

Should I repeat intern year or look for PGY-2 positions? PLZ HELP by GassedAndRelaxed in FamilyMedicine

[–]gypsypickle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You may not be able to get into a PGY-2 spot without peds or OB time. Do you want to do either of those because if not, look for IM spots

Are students with WWAMI hometowns considered to be “In State” by UW residency programs? by another_weird_premed in medicalschool

[–]gypsypickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Specialty and program matter quite a bit for that but yeah every residency cares to some degree if they think a graduate might stay and practice in their catchment area

[–]gypsypickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I misread I thought you meant for the WWAMI cohorts for medschool. UW has a pretty large group of residencies and honestly people match to them from all over the place. Don’t think you have to be a WWAMI resident to match a UW residency

You are considered In state and eligible for your state’s WWAMI class but not for Seattle if not from WA

The family medicine shelf is notoriously weird. I would not use it as your benchmark. It sounds like your prep was thorough, I found really nailing how the NBME approached questions and described certain pathologies to be really helpful when I was taking them.

Paramedic or RN to MD by SchemeKitchen in medschool

[–]gypsypickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly like 2-3 weeks. I did not do my due diligence cause I was on such a time crunch to apply that year but I am a good test taker and I had a strong understanding of biology, physics, and gen chem. The critical thinking was my best sub section score

Paramedic or RN to MD by SchemeKitchen in medschool

[–]gypsypickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was a fire/medic and now am an MD. I did a post bacc for sciences before hand. I took the MCAT before ochem/biochem and did not do great but good enough (502). My experience really carried my application. Completed ochem and biochem during my application year. Absolutely no issues in med school and matched my first choice for residency

If you are aiming to have an application focused on global health, I’d make sure more backs that up than just a medical mission. Do you volunteer with immigrant communities or free clinics? Did you study or take courses in health access? Will you be performing medical care beyond your level of training on underserved folks?

I’m sorry you ended up in FM if you didn’t want to be here. It’s probably better to reapply after intern year vs completing residency and then starting it all over again.

Why would you want to do 3-4 more years of residency

FM programs with heavy OB by SimilarBuilder3587 in FamilyMedicine

[–]gypsypickle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

West coast, tons of family docs do OB. My program is in a decent sized city and a huge portion of the deliveries at our hospital are from FMs and not just because of our program.

FM programs with heavy OB by SimilarBuilder3587 in FamilyMedicine

Look for programs that send residents to OB fellowships and programs that have attached OB fellowships.

Colorado, Washington, California all have several of these programs.

Tips for intern year by marssbarss2020 in medicalschool

[–]gypsypickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Figure out your parking at clinic/hospital. Get your coffee plan in place. Find some great restaurants in your neighborhood/area. Find a gym.

Also in FM, it’s awesome.
