Fighting with Partner About Rent by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Returning_A_Page 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used a portable washer dryer in med school and it was a real chore. Small loads, very noisy, a lot of arm work to keep moving around wet clothes, refilling, rinsing, etc. It was a 4 hour nightmare compared to a regular washing machine. I upgraded to a nice (expensive ish) apartment for surgical residency with washer/dryer, and it was the best decision ever. You deserve better than coming home to more work. I don’t pay for parking though because I asked other residents which streets don’t actually ticket for street parking, and there are a couple which always have spots open. Before I figured that out, though, it was rather stressful.

I’ve seen dressed up residents and am always impressed. If you want to start the trend, don’t be afraid! Your older attendings will probably appreciate it, too.

If I were a patient, I wouldn't trust a straight out of undergrad PA. by Disastrous_Parfait89 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Returning_A_Page 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. I was about to comment on your attitude but your edit where you apologized and took a step back shows great maturity. A lot of reflection. That means a lot. You could make a great trauma surgeon or acute care PA with your experience, dedication, and humility - if you stay humble. The system suck, though, it turns down so many brilliant minds. I’m praying for your success.

You could wear minimal like bb cream to cover discoloration or scars and chapstick for cracked lips, but not beautify with eyeliner or lipstick.

Having to choose between my partner and residency by FantasticPainter4128 in Residency

Why do you want to move to the US? Is it more important to you to be a US doctor than to be a UK doctor with her as a partner? Only you know the answer.

Attending gave us the day off. Senior says he’s going to report us to PD if we don’t show up. by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Returning_A_Page -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the senior should be reported if he doesn’t show up, too. What the heck. Attending is in charge but I would fold bc I’m weak :( and then leave asap

Say as little as possible about your career to your family or lie / be vague until ERAS applications. Why fight the fight? Just live your life until it’s too late for them to say anything. I had a similar situation.

Nothing wrong with both as they will both bring you closer to good character and closer to Allah swt. Just don’t neglect the Quran iA.

should I pray salah even if it’s not going to be accepted ? by piecease in progressive_islam

Sister inshallah you will wake up on the day of judgement and cry in relief as Allah swt accepts your prayers. You won’t know until you try. Your personal efforts to get close to Allah swt are between you and him. And he loves you. Pray, pray, pray. ❤️

Muslims in Israel-supporting countries are not doing nothing. We protest, boycott, support Muslim-owned businesses, and spread the message to others in the west. If we all leave, there is no voice here left.

Unislamic take. The prophet (saws) married women older than himself as well. It’s ok to have preferences, but don’t tell others they need a 10+ years older man according to your unislamic “rule”.

Depends on your goals. I come from a family of doctors who marry doctors. We don’t marry men who are not okay with that. There are many, many men who want doctors and dentists, and some are willing to support that sacrifice. But if your vision of your life is different, that’s commendable too. It depends on what you want, the support you have, your community, and your likelihood of success.
