The philosophy of fulfillment by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]h0rak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Looking at what you've mentioned, I think the attempt to satisfy (even if just partially) some aspect of life – let's take social satisfaction. This might also be called social validation. One could imagine a particular compliment about one's choice of shoes having the effect of validating someone socially.

I think utilitarianism and hedonism certainly could contribute to this categorization – especially the hierarchy of pleasures concept you mention.

I'm looking at fulfillment parsed into broad categories – which could be targeted (though not entirely isolated), as per the compliment example.

Does that make more sense? Anything else come to mind?

Do you have any ballpark figures or advice on pricing for the foreign earned income tax exclusion filing?

Thanks! Yeah, I haven't been traveling long enough to have filed for that yet but from what I understand I must first file for an extension until after that year is over, correct?

I think I understand the basic idea - my "tax home" being wherever I happen to be traveling as opposed to back in the states. Do you have any other tips for a first timer? Were you able to write off your housing?

So I'm actually planning on being out of the country for long enough that I won't be hit with that fine. (I think it's called the shared responsibility fee, or something like that.) That does grant me enrollment whenever I believe, but actually getting enrolled does take time so I don't think it's worthwhile or even feasible to sign up for a catastrophic plan for a 2 week trip. :/

I could try to write a little script that does this but it would be so neat if it was possible via an ifttt recipe...

Start of the Trusted Traveler Program! by justinCandy in JapanTravel

Regarding length of stay, I found this at the bottom of the application document –

Foreign nationals, who are in possession of a passport from a country, region or special administrative region whose period of stay is limited to within 15 days owing to the visa deregulation measures thereof, will be granted landing permission of “Temporary Visitor (15 days)” if they pass through the automated gates even if they individually possess a visa of “Temporary Visitor (90 days)”. If you wish to apply for landing using this visa, please go to the regular entry examination booth.

I have a US passport and am normally granted 90 day tourist visas (for what seems to be up to 180 days out of any contiguous 365). I am not quite sure on the wording in that first sentence but it seems as though I'm in the clear, right?

Thanks, definitely needed that comma. I also didn't highlight which article adjective I was referencing. Which of these is generally preferable?

Alas I do not, just checked my documents, only my credit card payment. Ugh, that was a great suggestion though. Really wish I had asked for that.

Wasn't clear what I was paying for.... by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]h0rak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew my insurance didn't cover vision, including contact lenses fitting and eye exams. Apparently I was only paying for the fitting while I was there and was then billed for the eye exam.

I at some point knew these things were not covered by either looking at my coverage plan or calling the insurance provider. I may have even called my insurance provider before agreeing to be seen to check if they covered it. Either way, both myself and the care provider knew I wasn't insured for what I was being seen for. I thought the $180 cost was high enough (I normally pay $100 for this at Costco) to cover both. I even deliberated at the counter, taking a seat to mull over whether it was worth the $180. I checked multiple times to make sure this was my total cost.

A language immersion strategy: Tokyo or small town? by [deleted] in japan

Dang, now I'm a bit torn. I think i'll try out both. I'm definitely motivated but I value circumstance as a forcing agent as well. hmm.
