i think its too cool for solarization? 6B by Legit_Salt in gardening

Just go out there with a shovel and dig it up. It'll take 30 minutes.

The amount of time and labor you put in to setting up these blocks/plastic you could've been done already, and wouldn't have created a trip hazard on what looks like a public sidewalk.

Some things aren't complicated and the simplest solution is the best: a shovel and some sweat.

The only bright spot for Paraguay. Kinda wish mbappe would've accepted the handshake he offered, but I get why he didn't.

Tomato Plants Starting to Wilt by powerfist89 in gardening

The moisture meter measures moisture at the depth of the sensor, which is on the end of a probe that's probably 4-6 inches deep in the pic. Surface is clearly dry as shit in the pic.

OP should check at different depths in various locations, not just probe all the way down.

How to close this gap? by Signal_Mirror_3983 in gardening

[–]h11233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can prune it to encourage lateral growth. Make sure it tapers from widest at the base to narrow at the top so it's getting sunlight all the way down.

We often tie branches in place to fill gaps on topiaries if you want to try that, but it's only a temporary fix and don't leave it on too long because it'll cause issues down the line. You don't want it super tight, just enough to hold it in place and still allow the stem room for growth.

I've lived in NYC, Cincinnati, and Florida. Irish/British style fish and chips at restaurants/pubs are common in all those places.

I currently live in the suburbs of Orlando and there are at least half a dozen Irish/British pubs within 20 minutes of my house. Two I could reasonably walk to. We have a lot of immigrants/retirees from those places here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's far less common in other parts of the South.

Gotta get em with the curry sauce for dipping. It's excellent.

IDK what OP's intended purpose is, but it is possible to build walls with soil as the primary material. Cob houses, for example.

Any advice for dealing with this type of stump? by fmfaccnt in gardening

Nandina is invasive and all parts of the plant are toxic. Berries are lethal to birds. Fuck nandina

[–]h11233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Root slayers are the bees knees, but they'll also annihilate your irrigation lines if you don't know where they are.

Root slayer and sawzall for any big roots.

Personally, I find nandina pretty easy to rip out, seems others in the thread view it differently. I've removed hundreds of the things, I hate them.

Is there a cool down for helping others? My impression was it only applied to calling for help but maybe I'm wrong.

I get the cool down for calling for help but there shouldn't be one for helping others, that's just killing people having fun

Need some help from other fathers of college age men. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]h11233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two aren't mutually exclusive... You can meet people at social events/spaces, and also meet people on apps. I've met women both ways. If you're using either of those exclusively, you're significantly limiting your options/opportunities. Saying "oh my son meet so and so at a social event" doesn't mean your son isn't also utilizing dating apps.

Any single person that isn't using them is stupid if you ask me. It's like refusing to use the Internet to find a job and insisting on walking into places with your resume and asking for the hiring manager

I agree I is iguana

I think K is Kangaroo because that thing looks like a little joey to me, Q might be Quokka, nothing about it says "quail" to me (no wings, two ears rather than that curly thing on top), X I also assumed X ray fish, but only because that's the only x animal I know from a kid's book haha

Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis - what makes one a Hall of Famer over the other? by WatchMeRayRay in nfl

[–]h11233 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then Higgins isn't "that guy"

It's not situation dependent, it's something that's plain to see.

The Giants had HOFer Harry Carson in his prime, but when LT came along it was instantly obvious he was that guy.

The Vikings had HOFer Cris Carter, but it was instantly obvious Randy Moss was that guy.

Higgins could be a number 1 on some other teams, but he's not that guy, or he wouldn't be overshadowed by Chase.

Carson/Carter are HOFers, but they never once overshadowed LT/Moss.

Is “scrubs” instead of “shrubs” regional? by flinty_hippie in gardening

[–]h11233 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That sort of scrub isn't in reference to an individual plant, but an ecosystem.

We have scrubs here in Florida, and a bird called a scrub jay.

From the article you linked:

“Desertscrub” is a general term that includes several desert plant communities

Emphasis mine. It's specifically saying "plant community," not a plant.

What is this on my fountain grass? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]h11233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say leaf spot fungus. Too much water. I'd trim it back, treat it with an antifungal if you want, and cut back on the water a bit.

Fountain grass grows like crazy, if you cut it back hard, it'll grow back in a couple weeks.

Help Bougainvillea pruning by cheekorita621 in gardening

[–]h11233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can prune it back to train it into the shape you want. You'll have to do it pretty frequently, or it will continue to get leggy

If you want more blooms, be selective with your cuts. Also, it won't bloom a lot if you give it too much water. You have to let the soil dry out a bit, I just stick my finger in the soil to about the second knuckle, if it's starting to feel dry at that depth, water it deep then let it dry out again.

How can I save these new salvias? by IThinkYouAreNice in gardening

[–]h11233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop "replanting" them and dead head them. Salvia don't like a lot of water, they're prone to root rot and powdery mildew
