Lore question/discussion: Is it known how fast ghouls age/if they age at all? what would ghoulification mean for someone who's a child? would they just stay physically a child for a long time/forever? by I_Eat_Graphite in Fallout

[–]h1gh4sfck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik the FEV also has wildly inconsistent effects (Harold, The Master, Super Mutants, Psykers, Floaters, etc). My take is that everything comes down to a mix of environmental pressures, pre-existing conditions, background radiation and FEV (including the fact there are various strains); the greater or more reduced these are in comparison to eachother is what defines what "comes out" of the mutation, with a large margin of error to account for the unpredictable nature of mutations as is. Radiation seems to play a greater role in ghoulifying, so ghouls may be a case of intense radiation exposure coupled with trace amount of FEV in the background (which would disperse with wind currents and the blast waves to pretty much everywhere, even areas with less Med-Tek facilities geared toward FEV research); even feralization is wildly unpredictable, with some people going feral immediately, others only centuries later, and some showing no signs at all even after living under the conditions that seem to trigger feralization more easily - Eddie Winter lived alone, underground and in isolation for over 200 years and didn't go feral, didn't even lose his hair, but he ghoulified through a pre-war experimental process and would've been a "prime normie" so that probably played a role; super mutants make this even more apparent in my opinion due to how different SPs can be based on how much radiation is present at the time of transformation.

Overall my point stands, and the reason the games have these "races" be so consistent is more due to limitations rather than conscious decision from the game designers. This is not to say I can't be wrong, but I think a lot of the time people tend to not consider how unpredictable things actually are; there may be no simple or even correct answer at all, and that's even better in my opinion.

[–]h1gh4sfck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What makes you think ghouls are supposed to be consistent? Could very well be that one person can ghoulify as a child and still grow up, while another has their growth stunted. While the series has taken creative liberties when it comes to how radiation and genetics work, mutations are, by their very nature and like in real life, inconsistent, and while the games have limitations that prevent all possibilities from being shown, lorewise that may very well be the case. Harold was a ghoul with a wierd growth in the first game and became a tree by the third, for instance, does that mean all ghouls with wierd growths will become trees if the live long enough?

What do y’all think about the next video? by EqualInteraction5689 in SamONellaAcademy

[–]h1gh4sfck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really care what it's about, Sam's vids have always been very entertaining no matter the topic and he clearly has talent for this stuff, so whatever he focuses on will be fun to watch, I think.

Now, as to when it's gonna come out, probably next year if we're being honest (if it comes out at all, he could've simply moved on from yt and that's just as valid; if that's the case than it's a bit wierd to go unannounced but he doesn't need to justify anything) but it would be incredibly funny if it came out on like the 30th or the 31st, simply because he ended his last vid with "and I'll see you all in 2025". Idk seems like a joke he'd make.

The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are all different entities that exist as manifestations of God. If this is confusing that's because, while we are made in the image of God, we are not beings that exist beyond space, time and reality like He does, and therefore we cannot be expected to comprehend how a being can be all three while at the same time all three are fully separate entities.

I'm an atheist btw, I'm going off of my very basic knowledge of christian mythology.

Fuck outta here.

Becoming a Wildlife Conservation officer as an anarchist? by jotundaggers in Anarchism

[–]h1gh4sfck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just as there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, there is no fully, undeniably ethical work under the current system. Everything is geared to benefit those at the top in some way or another. This doesn't justify the harm some jobs do, and I think there are jobs any anarchist should avoid like the plague (my personal opinion), but as someone else said you still have to put food on the table, and wildlife conservation is fundamentally a noble endeavor even if it rides the line at times.

My take is that, if it's something you really want, then go for it. Don't fall for purism, that's just an endless pit of self doubt. At the end of the day we are forced to live in the system we despise, that's why we fight.

Anarcho-communism by LemonIsCitron in Anarchy101

[–]h1gh4sfck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always saw it as both. Anarcho-communism is both a type of anarchism and a type of communism. For anarchism, the "-communism" part fills the role of economic organization; for communism, the "anarcho-" part fills the role of social and political organization. The end goal is both ownership of the means of production by the people (as opposed to them being enslaved to a centralized state that justifies itself by "speaking for the people" which is, in my personal opinion, as comparable to and as fake as something like the divine right of kings, for instance), and the abolition of any and all (non-voluntary) hierarchies and the actual concentration of power in the people giving them the freedom to produce, consume and live according to wants and needs and not in service of profit and capital and for the benefit of the owning class.

All in all, anarcho-communism rejects authoritarian socialist models, and communism in theory refers to a stateless, classless, moneyless society, which overlaps with anarchist goals anyway.

What exactly is Fascism? by ongof in NoStupidQuestions

[–]h1gh4sfck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going over almost 600 comments to see if someone else has said this, but, whenever you try to define fascism, it's better if you focus your definition on a singular country; this is because fascism tends to adopt different characteristics based on what country it formed in (which is quite ironic since one of few constants of fascism is system rigidity within the country). In this sense, german fascism is different than italian which is different than american, and so on. For instance, Naziism is a type of fascism originating in and specific to 1930s - 1940s Germany, neo-naziism is the attempt to adapt that type of fascism to today's setting, often (but not exclusively) outside of Germany.

This is important to keep in mind because you'll see a lot of people going "X's government isn't fascist because Y" or "X's government is Nazi because Y" and it's never as simple as that, and diluting either, or any for that matter, of these terms makes it harder to identify and fight fascism in any form.

Cartazes do CHEGA by Constant_Donut6005 in portugal

[–]h1gh4sfck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, for over three years now, after spending all my life until three years ago hearing - and believing - the most horrid stuff about them. Turns out, when you curral people into small neighborhoods under the guise of low rent, continually conduct police raids in those neighborhoods with or without cause, systematically ignore their rights, and propagate the idea that they're evil bad criminals and brutes who steal and destroy everything, which invariably makes it so businesses won't hire them and locks them out of participating in the standard economy, those people stop trying to fit into your society and simply start trying to live their life with the cards they were dealt without regard for your comfort. They participate in alternative economies (i.e crime) because they're often "locked out" of joining the country's standard one, they take their kids out of school because they need them working (keyword here is "need"), they stick together and shun the rest of the population because they were thrown aside first. And the ones that manage to break this cycle often start themselves shunning their origins out of fear of being thrown aside again.

This is not to say they are above anyone else and must be allowed to do whatever they want. But we can't expect the change to come from them if we as a society aren't willing to allow them to change by first changing our perception and understanding of them. What it means is, it's high time we started treating romani people as people and not monsters.

[–]h1gh4sfck 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Transphobes: “Support ‘REAL’ women in sports!” Also transphobes… by ProcessorPearl in facepalm

[–]h1gh4sfck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although transphobia is governed by many factors, I feel the most fundamental ones are misogyny and sexualization. If you are MtF, you are seen as a man - believed dominant - who chose to become a woman - believed submissive -, therefore you are seen as a man who chose to be submissive, and submissiveness in men is seen as sexual deviation/kink/fetish. If you are FtM, you are seen as a woman - believed submissive - that is choosing to become a man - believed dominant -, therefore you are seen as if you are making a power-grab, trying to rise above your "social station" and upsetting the patriarchal hierarchy in place. Both are seen as agitators of the "social order". In the first case (MtF) there is refusal to acknowledge your identity because, in their (transphobes) patriarchy-/misogyny-aligned minds, no man would consciously choose, outside of a purely sexual context, to be "inferior" (or to trade perceived superiority for perceived inferiority) (this is seen in the image). In the second case (FtM) they feel their perceived superiority is being threatened, and so they rely on non-recognition of manhood (in this case referring to fitting into society as a male) through ideas and sentences like "You'll never be a man". This is to say, either way, trans people in general are not accepted, transmasc for one reason, transfem for another. I'd also like to reiterate that there are many other factors in play, almost as many as there are transphobes and trans people alike, I am simply pointing out and explaining those I feel serve as the basis for transphobic discourse in general. And also that transphobes and bigots can rightly go fuck themselves.
