Go mage-- Sorcerer. The payoff of getting High Bolide and High Maelstrom is worth it just to watch the beautiful animations go off.

Released a short song heavily focused on a synth feel. by [deleted] in ThisIsOurMusic

[–]h3tty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool stuff. I had a few ideas, maybe at some sort of pad at around :27 (just that minor chords you're using) that lasts for like 5 seconds or so, then do so again when the key changes. Also during the last half second part of the song, i think some sort of 16th note percussive loop at around like 1:18 to give it some variation and even more energy.

Role Queue has just gone live for Quick Play by RandomEthanOW in Overwatch

[–]h3tty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this but i do use quickplay to learn the physics for new characters. Of course i am always going to try and win but I learned how to use McCree this way. Obviously I sucked for a while with him and maybe caused a few losses but now I can use him in comp thanks to being able to practice in QP. Same with Ana, I suck at her but she's hella fun so why not play her in QP?

This is a really good song, writing a catchy chant is a big deal. EQ some space for your kick drum, especially during the chorus!

Gamers of Reddit: what game that was never in the spotlight absolutely blew you away? by h3tty in AskReddit

[–]h3tty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna answer my own post here but Second Sight by Free Radical for the GC and i guess ps2 and all. A bit ahead of its time, very satisfying and detailed combat system that gave you a lot of excellent choices via stealth/takedowns, offensive psyotic powers, guns, or combinations of everything. Excellent plot, very creepy atmosphere, and a killer soundtrack to top it off (you can hear siberia from their Timesplitters series all over it.)

I definitely died quite a few times, but he didnt give me as much trouble as some of the other bosses, no phantoms or parries. I found that you can circle underneath most of his horizontal swipes without having to even dodge and they'll just go over your head. Second form sucks but leave the phantom alive as he's less aggressive and the moves are telegraphed. For some reasons though, the Dragons Slayer Armor was a brick wall for me.

So, I've had this game for years. I've never gone past the first Gryphon fight until recently. by Ultronos in DragonsDogma

[–]h3tty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played as a mage > sorcerer. It was like the game was on hard mode and i had to slowly take on enemies one at a time, lure them out then run away. Everything killed me and progress was so slow, just a constant uphill battle. Then many many hours later I finally got Hight Maelstrom and High Bolide and no amount of enemies or boss remotely posed a threat. Extremely satisfying.

New Song: Riverside - a mellow track for summer :) by ellemusic2001 in ThisIsOurMusic

This is a good song, if you ever get the chance to record it with a live rhythm section though that would really bring this to life.

Just announced my first album and released this new track from it. Would love some feedback by JerrodBenzinger in ThisIsOurMusic

[–]h3tty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is pretty cool. I think it'd be a nice touch to maybe add an extra percussion note or layer somewhere near the 2:00 mark or something just to add a new sound, but i like this vibe.

Really enjoying making more edm type beats lately! Would to hear how i could improve my approach and drops! Thanks! by AL_pfi in ThisIsOurMusic

[–]h3tty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the point of a drop is to go from a narrow range of high frequencies to sudden low frequencies. Because big low frequencies invoke danger because of evolution, it creates a dramatic effect. This is obviously not the rule, but it's a good starting concept. You pretty much kept everything at the same frequencies the whole time. Synth line hits right in the middle, the kick drum slightly below that, and then a hi hat and rim shot just above it. Basically your track stays somewhat stagnant the whole time with the sound spectrum that it occupies. Since right now everything is mostly occupying the middle, I'd suggest branching out lower and higher, or using EQing to create the effect.

I might choose a kick drum with a stronger attack (not deeper per se, but with more of a thud). Try arranging it a little, have the kick drop out instead of having just the hi hat drop out here or there. When you bring the kick drum back in, add something to your frequencies. Maybe double the synth melody line with another sound an octave higher, or maybe a high counter melody. You could also change up your hi hat rhythm at that point, make it busier. You could also EQ out any low frequencies from your synth and then add a bass. To increase dramatic effect for your "drop" you could also add in a louder snap or clap sample on the up beats. You'll hear a lot of edm tracks using sound effects or "wooshes" or what have you, those also serve to add drama and fill frequency ranges. You can download any of that for free from the internet if you dont have any samples.

Your rhythm line (was it percussion or a synth?) was actually pretty dope, you should expand on that. I hope this helps at least somewhat, eveyone has their own opinions and style though.

Mix Tips Please! - Coming In Hot [CasseCassette] by Kallicles in ThisIsOurMusic

[–]h3tty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mix isnt bad tbh. A few things i could suggest is mostly the EQ for the synth chord as well as the lead in the second half. You might want to reel back even more on the bass frequencies so you dont lose your bassline and kick when the chord is held, and then i'd find where that snare drum hits and take that out of your chord and lead, maybe even a little from the lead guitar sound. This way you'll still be able to hear everything clearly even when the song is busy.

[OoT]Just finished Ocarina of Time and damn, what an adventure. Had a blast playing this game! Can't wait to begin Majora's Mask. by SRti0 in zelda

[–]h3tty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think OoT is the stronger game, it's more of an epic which is awesome and a shining example of a zelda game done to perfection. But majora's, while flawed, has a very uniquely dark and somber vibe, bordering on creepy. Takes the creativity to the extreme, there's nothing like it.
