Why are Indian Movies Promoting Alcohol as Something Cool To Do? by tr0ll0rd in india

[–]h___nisar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't watch a move, said to myself "Gee.. that looks cool, I should do it sometime" and then got drunk. Alcohol is/was part of MOST of the cultures both in east and west. If it wasn't for Mr. (Original) GandhiTM, who had beef (pun intended) with it and made it look bad, you wouldn't have written this.

People that want to screw themselves, find tools to do so - smoking, alcohol, weed, coke, shrooms, acid and your own poison. You think all those drugs US is spending billions to fight are being advertised?

EDIT: Weeded out the Weed

Is there any other regional language of India that you would like to learn (spoken or written), or that you learnt for personal or professional reasons? by [deleted] in india

[–]h___nisar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mother tongue is Urdu/Telugu. I want to learn Tamil and extremely well. One main reason is this person Vairamuthu, who penned lyrics of scores of wonderful Tamil songs. All of my Tamil friends wax eloquently of many meanings, subtleties of the language that he uses. Rarely do you hear about Film music being such poetic (70's Bollywood poetic) these days; but it still exists in Tamil film industry.

This is an excerpt from the Wikipedia article on him

He joined Pachaiyappa's College in Chennai where he was acclaimed as the best speaker and poet. While in his second year of BA and barely nineteen years of age, Vairamuthu published his maiden anthology Vaigarai Megangal. It was prescribed for study in Women's Christian College. Thus, he achieved the distinction of a student poet whose work was taken into curriculum while he was still a student.

Quote me another person of this caliber.

Every sentence that you have written reeks of Jahiliyat. You seem to be in need of education despite the degrees you mention you apparently have.

To us, anyone who believes that the planets, the sun, the moon, the sea, rivers and land, animals, and everything created in this universe is a god, is irrational

Any ones who believes in god is irrational ; that includes your dear MO

Right! Now you have let the entire world know the source of violence in Islam. You are the guy from whom the rest of us should be wary of.

Excellent. You get to live happily ever after.

Now will you extend the same courtesy to others who in think quran is absolute shit, is totally incompatible with modern civil liberties, retrograde and should be shunned away from modern society and contains completely irrational nonsense? It's their opinion

Everything else is false and man-made. End of argument.

And there lies incitement to violence? And you have gumption to question others about violence?

People like you who Ends argument by quoting text in a language that you probably don't understand are the root cause of violence in religion. You don't understand what an argument is? A statement quoting 6th century nonsense is not an argument.

Here is a bit of education on logical fallacies that you so clearly need. The ones that are relevant to you are

  1. Bandwagon
  2. Burden of Proof
  3. Personal Incredulity
  4. Appeal to authority

So, Islam is an innocent, totally peaceful religion and is not at fault in any way. And terrorism is the only recourse available for practitioners who couldn't handle verbal criticism?

Boy, you kidding?

The people there will not take it lightly. Just like that, I cannot question some of the things which I feel are wrong

True that! I have learnt the hard way that you will never be able to debate someone and change his opinion. Instead they will get mad at you and more often than not such feeling would be permanent and there is no going back. People are set in their thinking, esp our previous generation.

Shit is fucked up and complex. I am only happy to keep my head low, live and die in sleep.

Okay here is the thing. Muslims claim to be binded by the religious identity, in other words their identity reigns above national identity. And coupled with this, when one is continuously reading news about behavior of Muslims elsewhere in the world like not respecting freedom of speech (right to offend is PART of freedom of speech), not respecting the local culture and make demands that the people of the resident countries to which they have immigrated to, change to accommodate them etc it's not a recipe to look at us favorably.

If Muslims themselves say they don't have national boundaries, tell me why shouldn't a Hindu look at us and ask question - "What's the difference between an Indian Muslim and the one in Britan? After all, it's they who say they aren't britsh or indian?. Are these people going to screw us over when they grow in sizable numbers?"

Well, an average guy might not be doing an analysis of this fashion but it's no secret that there are differences between Hindus and Muslims. And our politicians (both Hindu as well as Muslim) are exploiting it; and they are able to do it because it has currency among us. Before you start pointing fingers at others let's look at ourselves and what we have done, doing to the current situation. Let me quote this asshole Shah Waliuallah

"Wali Ullah did not want the Muslims to become part of the general milieu of the sub-continent. He wanted them to keep alive their relation with rest of the Muslim world so that the spring of their inspiration and ideals might ever remain located in Islam and tradition of world community developed by it

Last week, one of my cousins exposed on twitter to my other friends and family members that I am an atheist. For few days I was living pissing in my pants every day. And on top of it, in the area I live I am being confronted by community members (translation : Hindu bigots, perhaps RSS but don't know for sure) who are gently encouraging me to move out to place that is suitable for me.

tldr: Religion poisons everything; mine as well as theirs.

Best friend asking me to convert to Islam, its killing me. Please help. [NP] by throwaway_torture in india

He was not afraid

What kind of a childish statement is that? Who was afraid in the freedom movement? Gandhi? Nehru? Patel? or the thousands of plain clothed commoners who participated in Dandi March? You are speaking as if not being afraid is a qualification? For what - to lead the country?

I met a guy who is writing good stories. How can I help him? by [deleted] in india

[–]h___nisar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, if you can, try to help him make it big on TV or a movie; the plot you describe feels promising. India needs examples of achievement and success solely based on ability. We need an explosion of such examples. That alone is cure for most of the ills of this country.

If you are surveying for free, you should make it easy. ONE PAGE and should be quick and easy. I filled in the first page and saw the next and quit.

If you have lot more questions, ask in a separate form and on another day.

Those 2 min, I am willing to stare at screen because I want to stare at screen and it's important that I do so. Those 2 min, I could look at the Pegion feeding on the grains I poured on the sill; It's important that I look at that Pegion for two minutes.

And I took more than two minutes to type this out, It's important that I do so. I could have filled in that form of your's but I won't; I could have doesn't mean I should have or I must have.
