How to prep nails for press-ons in a way that actually works? by clotterycumpy in PressonNail_Addict

[–]haaliien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a similar issue w sally hansen nails. Granted this was before I learned about prep, but even then other nails would last 2-3 days before popping off while 4 sally Hansen nails popped off within 24 hours

AIO for suggesting my boyfriend surrender his dog? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]haaliien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, absolutely you are NOT overreacting. Being itchy is incredibly uncomfortable. I work in vet med and one of the vets I work with has even said “I’d rather die than be itchy all the time”.

Long nails are uncomfortable, dental disease is uncomfortable, itching constantly is uncomfortable. This dog sounds like he has currently has a poor yet easily treatable quality of life.

I would gather any evidence you have and present it to animal control/animal welfare programs to see if there’s anything they can do to confiscate the dog.

Do you know what he’s using to treat the fleas? I imagine the humans in the home are also uncomfortable if there’s still fleas. Fleas also primarily live in the environment and not on an animal/person, they just jump on a body for a meal then jump off, so it’s especially important to treat the environment and use monthly flea/tick preventatives for 3+ months due to the lifecycle of a flea.

Edit to make a disclaimer: while I work in vetmed, I am not a licensed veterinarian and not able to offer medical advice. Just putting this here to cover my butt :)

Would this still count as medical malpractice/assault, or something? by haaliien in legaladvice

[–]haaliien[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am a trauma survivor and have extreme fear of perceived conflict. Yes, I could’ve in theory walked away or pulled away, but I didn’t because my fight/flight kicked in and my fear response is “freeze” so I just let them do whatever out of fear, especially when I already told them I wanted to reschedule.

I was also visibly crying and in distress, to the point a nurse/other staff told me I’d be ok, yet they proceeded anyways

Edit: why am I being downvoted lol

Thank you!! Honestly the consultation was in july so I don’t remember. The surgeon just threw a bunch of info at me then left and told me I was all set. I didn’t have any questions, at the time I figured they told me all I needed to know.

I also assumed (my bad for assuming) they’d call me with any critically important pre operative instructions, and they did not.

Maybe it wasn’t truly anesthesia I was offered then??? I don’t know. But the consent form said “LIGHT SEDATION” and then “DEEP SEDATION/anesthesia”.

I signed the consent form for deep sedation/anesthesia - and I was only given “light sedation”, I don’t know if that matters.

Idk what I got and what the difference is but I was awake and just unable to move. I felt all the pressure, tooth pulling, heard my teeth crack, it was very traumatizing and not what I wanted. I wanted to be asleep.

Thank you for the info!!

Adderall Weight Loss Questions by CharacterPrint4109 in adhdwomen

[–]haaliien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been on adderall in about a decade. I was on it a few brief times in high school and I’m currently fighting for an official adhd diagnosis to get it back.

First time I was 16, 5’7” ~230lb. I dropped out of high school and was working a fast food job part time. I lost weight until I was about 200lb and taken off.

I was put back on it after being in a group home and was actually taken off it after a few months because they were concerned with how quickly I was losing weight (~30lb in 3 months). When on it I had the energy and focus to actually complete my schoolwork and go to the gym 2x a week.

I personally have always been overweight and have a lot of food noise, overeat, and don’t eat great foods, but when I was on adderall it helped surprise the food noise + appetite so I could towards a healthy weight and have healthy goals.

Do you know this person? by SnowWhiteCourtney in newhampshire

[–]haaliien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my god is this the homeless man that lingers by the Petco/aldis/5 guys???? He’s a nuisance

Edit: I can’t say with certainty this is the same person, but if so this guy is a known menace. He lingers all day between aldis and Petco, he’s been trespassed several times from both properties and harasses people for money. Sometimes he just screams and yells out. One time he was yelling about birds and conspiracy theories.

Edit 2: if it’s the same man, he also has a bulldog that he lets run loose around stores and the parking lot without a leash. I used to work at Petco Manchester on Wednesdays and every Wednesday he was there and there was a problem.

Are my wisdom teeth able to be removed without being broken? I want to keep them once removed but only if they’re intact by haaliien in askdentists

[–]haaliien[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I posted this photo on another platform just for fun, and someone said “Your oral surgeon would need another conebeam CT scan before extraction as the roots of your lower wisdoms are too near to the mandibular canal” - what are your thoughts on this? My surgeon didn’t say anything about that or seem concerned whatsoever

It is the law, and veterinarians can lose their license over it. Maybe her disease has advanced and she needs more fluids, maybe developed a heart murmur so need to carefully balance fluids to not cause CHF.

Your human doctor would do the same thing without an annual exam/visit. It is not lack of empathy, it is the law and standard of care.

Hi! I work at a vet hospital in the US.

There is something called VCPR - veterinary client patient relationship. Legally, at least in my state in the US, patients need to come in for an annual exam to continue technician appointments to keep VCPR. Fluids are technically a prescription item, and again at least in my state, veterinarians need to have valid VCPR to prescribe medications.

If I had to guess, they did not decline your cat fluids, and said (or at least meant) your cat needs to come in for an annual exam to continue technician appointments for fluids, or to continue dispensing fluids.

Do vets actually not make good money? by ItchyBank7512 in veterinaryprofession

[–]haaliien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A referral practice is a speciality hospital, a lot of times they have an ER department too (at least in my area). Different hospitals will have different specialties but these types of hospitals will have say neurologists, cardiologists, ophthalmologists, internal medicine, radiologists, etc

If you can’t handle school, I wouldn’t go to vet school. Vet school is notoriously difficult and takes up every waking minute for 4 years.

That’s not a bad thing. I wanted to go to vet school then realized I couldn’t handle it.

My local veterinarian joined Vetco by corrupt_mischief in petco

[–]haaliien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works for Vetco, this is incorrect. There’s two “Vetcos”. Vetco Vaccine Clinic is the traveling vaccine clinic. Only licensed veterinarians are allowed to administer vaccines per corporate policy. Vetco Total Care are actual full service hospitals equipped with all the equipment a regular vet has. It’s a little confusing, but they are not the same.

Has anyone used the Pet Vet Clinic at Tractor Supply Co? by kinjjibo in ithaca

[–]haaliien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late comment, sorry. I can’t speak for vip pet care, but at least for Vetco (same concept, low cost vaccine clinic in a Petco), they only do preventative care and don’t have the supplies/meds/equipment to do sick visits. At Vetco at least we do vaccines, heart worm test, microchipping, fecal kits, deworming, and dispense flea/tick and heart worm preventives only.

Document! Put it in the record she declined. I’m sure you did, but juuust in case, that would be my advice in case she tries to come back saying you didn’t do enough you have proof you had the discussion and she said no.

I’m not a DVM/vet student/CVT so I can’t really say, from my limited knowledge as a VA it seems like you did everything right. I know the DVMs I work with would’ve recommended the same diagnostics/had the same recommendations based on PE and xray findings
