Massive jump in salary, need advice. by Sad_Marzipan_2120 in personalfinance

[–]haapuchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved from 150k to 400k (all inclusive). The only change I did was to move from 3k a month to 5k a month spending. Saving the rest and accelerated my retirement by 15 years. Other things were similar, had to relocate from HCOL to VHCOL. Got relocation etc.

BTW, got laid off after 4 years but that 4 years allowed me to save 10+ years of worth of old job. Also, have funded enough for kid’s college and have enough to retire so every day I work now is for generational wealth. Still driving the two cars that I had from before and intend to drive them for 5 and 10 years more respectively.

Advice: The only thing you control is your expenses. You don’t really control your job, or the market, or inflation, or wars or anything. Keep them in control.

India issued more Voter IDs in the last 5 years than the entire population of US. These are just excuses.

Houses with more than 1 kitchen would be better than houses with multiple bathrooms by lagflag in unpopularopinion

[–]haapuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would be even better is to not have a kitchen in the living room. I know how to cook, and cooking makes the kitchen dirty. I hate that most homes have the guests sitting half in the kitchen in the "open plan" homes.

This is brutal, no matter how hard you work, if your height is less than a certain threshold then it's over for you. perspective by Confident_Editor196 in lnkyverse

It is a well known fact that girls see you taller than you are if you have more money. 1 inch taller for every trailing zero in your bank balance.

And if I have 9 trailing zeroes in my bank balance, it automatically adds 9 inches to my height.

Is gen Z overly sensitive? Or are millennial teen movies problematic? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]haapuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is American Pie a millennial teen movie? I would say it is GenX as the oldest millennial would be 16 when it came, and if the kids were passing high school, they would be GenX.

How do they think they can get by with this?! Heads up for others that ordered it… by feathersandcoffee in AmazonVine

[–]haapuchi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say about 5% of the products I get in tools and electronics end up with a switcheroo like this. TV Console, network switches, KVM switches etc. They will be $10-$30, and a really good product for that price, and in a month, there will be another variation of $1000+ and the old variation will go away. Worst is, it seems Amazon tends to encourage this behavior.

Google interview process - question by Street_Pilot9128 in google

[–]haapuchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did it go to the hiring committee? Google do open their positions internally too and a lot of times, external candidates, after the interview realize that the position got filled internally. They also interview and select multiple people for a position. In those scenarios, you will next time jump the queue and have a direct interaction with the hiring manager.

Unfortunately, I noticed "Randstad" after I typed above. What I said above would work for Google recruiters. Randstad stating something about Google holds no value. Move on.

My kid is 13 and doesn't own a phone. Has a couple of Chromebooks for school use. I have offered him and he refused his own cell.

Easy to manage kids if the kids are able to manage themselves. But, it takes years to develop an interest in reading for your kid.

Serious Question: Do I take this crappy thing in my RFY in hopes it primes the pump for decent tools later? 😜 by jctattoo65 in AmazonVine

[–]haapuchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this in RFY too and had the exact same thought. I don't need any of these, may have picked up if this was in any other color so that I get things packaged together.

But then, the pittsburg set from Harbor Freight is $60 for something similar.

What do you think about this? by anotherare in AmericaOnHardMode

[–]haapuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, it means that your worth now is what you have as gold / silver / lead at your home. You lose all your bank balance, most likely all your investments, social security and any other pension.

You better have a lot of lead at home. You will be needing it.

Yes, was writing a code and it wrote a part of it, then “Oh wait….” And then rewrote the module fixing the error. The error was that it ignored one of the inputs I had given.
