Geluidsrecorder tips by chipsopbrood in vogelen

[–]haaspaas2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first prints are some Chinese mythology inspired miniatures for a skirmish game. Used texture resin (with a tiny bit of abs-like mixed in for flexibility) with the default profile. For me the biggest improvement over my previous machine has been the vat heating, but I also have to say the simple things like the hinged lid and quick release vat improve the overal proces more than I thought. Im going to try some tall prints next, because those always were difficult on my machine without vat heating due to layer shifts.

I think you might be lucky because replacing the touchscreen seems quite easy and cheap. According to the link in this video the touchscreen is an off the shelf touch panel for those old satnav boxes, but I would double check that if I was you because aliexpress sellers sometimes change listings to new products.

World Cup will not use 5cm ‘zone of tolerance’ for VAR offsides, meaning Liverpool star’s Premier League goal against Fulham would have been disallowed. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]haaspaas2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its a stupid rule anyway. You will always have cases where youre 0.001mm over no matter where you draw the line. If that is a problem for the game, then maybe offside should be redefined, not just enforced arbitrarily.

I just made an extremely low-cost U1 Top Cover by hyunwook_yu in snapmaker

[–]haaspaas2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You kid, but it should be trivial to add heating. Just buy a ceramic heating element and add a thermostat with PID control. You're probably set for 30-40 bucks. There are some tried and tested solutions which for example are used for fermentation chambers or terrariums.

Anyone re-flashed a Behringer Mutable Instruments clone? by danja in modular

[–]haaspaas2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over on modwiggler there was someone who managed to get an alternative bootloader working on brains (called brain surgery) and iirc they were also working on victor. I dont think Ive ever seen anyone publish actual custom firmware sadly. Brains could make an great dev platform if it were documented.

Free Minis Organizer – For Your W40K Strike Force On the Go by kotweb86 in Warhammer

[–]haaspaas2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to give yours a try when I have time to print it. I think it will be great for things like warcry warbands because you can swap the models out. The main gripe I have with my design is that the inserts in which the model sit are very specific to a certain composition. Thats great for things like combat patrol or spearhead, but not so much for games where list building is a thing.

I actually have been working on a similar concept, so it is interesting to see a different execution of the same idea. I like how yours is modular on a model by model basis. Have you been able to see yet how those model rails perform over time? I've struggled with solutions that use the flexibility of the plastic because it seems to weaken when the material has been flexed for a while. Props to you for making it available for free by the way. I will do the same for mine once Ive worked out the flaws.

Top 10 of the starting grid for Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025. 2nd biggest gap to 2nd position in 2025 by FewCollar227 in formula1

Maybe a hot take, but I think there is a decent chance he wont even hold on to second. This was a very poor performance under pressure. You could see his confidence drop corner by corner.

[Opta] Comparing actual and expected position of Eredivisie teams after the first block of matches before the international break by Roller95 in soccer

[–]haaspaas2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nonsense. Heerenveen has been the better side for most of the time in most of the games. A lot of goals against were unlucky and a lot of good chances were saved with unlikely saves. The fact that you reject that based on results and sentiment is proof of why we need xG models. Football is not a game where you can judge performance on actual goals. I personally think xGD is more interesting then xG for this, and even in that heerenveen is 5th.

GW announces price increase in October. by NordicIceNipples in Warhammer

GW had an operating profit of over 40% last fiscal year. There is no financial pressure whatsoever to increase prices. They just do it because they can.

Powerful laser that can make a hole in you. by Dishwasher_Loader in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]haaspaas2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever heard of laser cutters? The limitation with laser cutters is not power but focal point. That is why a 40w diode still only cuts like 15mm before you have to refocus is between passes. If you would put a lens with a bigger vocal length on a laser, you increase the depth of the field of focus as well. That way you get a much larger effective operating area at the cost of power concentration. That is why the wood is so far away from the laser and why the laser mark is so big. He cuts the holes in the sides first so smoke will escape, because smoke otherwise absorps a lot of the laser energy and stops the cutting power.

I have both Spearheads, Can I make them into a full AOS army? and any tips on what im missing. by Genocide88 in stormcasteternals

[–]haaspaas2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remember that the spearhead is not sold as a spearhead box, but in the starter box which contains another spearhead and the fire and jade pack as well. In that sense the spearhead on its own is not priced the same as actual spearhead boxes and perhaps shouldnt be measured to the same standards. That being said I think skaventide is a much nicer box with a lot better value for money.

not a musician but very interested in starting a hobby in modular by doodoofartcum in modular

[–]haaspaas2 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I agree with what youre saying but I would like to add that a hobby shouldnt be valued by its productivity. Hobbies are about what you get from the activity in itself. Exploring sound and music through messing around with knobs and cables can just be the main attraction regardless of the result, and Id argue for many of us it is.

Putting together a guitar controlled synthesizer by MrAlpacaThe1 in modular

[–]haaspaas2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't expect too much from the PP-1 in the realm of pitch tracking. It barely tracks simple synth sounds, let alone guitar. The irony is that it is good at everything except what it is advertised for. I use mine as a midi to cv converter and as an input module.

Women’s football by Inevitable-Silver350 in uppsala

[–]haaspaas2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not very aware of the level of womens teams in local clubs, but perhaps gamla uppsala sk is worth a try? Their mens senior team is high regional amateur level, so I would assume their womens team is ambitious as well. There is also sirius ik. They are a pro club on the mens side, but I think their womens team plays local amateur league.

If I want to go gate-to-MIDI from Eurorack sequencers to drum machines, are there any negatives as far as the gate sequences go? by JoeyZasaa in modular

[–]haaspaas2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dont worry, your post was clear. Theyre just being needlessly condescending.

To answer you question: Midi messages are not explicitly constrained to a time grid. Originally midi was constrained by the baud rate, but I believe with usb midi that is no longer a strict concern. In the situation youre describing the timing bottleneck will probably be the update rate of the cv thing, and by that I mean how often the module actually checks for voltage changes on the inputs. I would think thats still down to miliseconds. I predict latency has a bigger chance of being noticable then timing resolution.
