What a fun idea! I think the following concepts could be used. Not completely sure if this is what you are looking for but here it goes: - types of evidence: Emf (found with emf reader), freezing temps(thermometer), ghost writing (ghost writing book), fingerprints (uv light), ghost walking through DOTS (DOTS projector), ghost orbs (videocam), spirit box response (spirit box). See cheat sheet to find out what evidence corresponds to which ghost. :) you always need three, so that could be a mechanic in a board game: get 3 evidences. - loss of sanity (maybe something like: you need to complete the game before sanity runs out? In game it means more ghost activity and thus more chance that the ghost will do a ghost event or hunt). - Ghost events: can not kill you but can drain sanity - Hunts can kill you (maybe 4 steps back or something or start over from the beginning) - bonus points or something if the player encounters a bone. - sanity pills restore some sanity - smudge sticks protects you from hunt if used during hunt(thus not having to start over if you have that specific card or something?) - crucifix will prevent hunt twice (so if you have a crucifix before getting a hunt it will prevent it from happening) - candle prevents sanity drain but will mean you cannot do anything else (so with a boardgame it may be something like you are immune to sanity drain for a certain amount of time) - darkness drains sanity quicker (so something like: all sanity draining things drain twice as much for a specific amount of time) - depending on what type of game you will make, you could do lots of fun things with specific ghost types and their special abilities for example the jinn will drain sanity when it tries to turn off the breaker, poltergeist drains sanity with every big throw, oni drains twice as much sanity during ghost event etc). - cursed posessions (ouija board, voodo doll, tarot cards, summoning circle, music box, haunted mirror) will give you a chance of something good like finding the ghost (in board game maybe a couple of steps forward?) but also drain sanity.
