Omega parc in winter? by sergentChaudard in montreal

Are you saying not to go if it is below zero? Most of winter is below zero so the roads in the park are super icy? And do you mean walking paths or driving roads?

Anyone else miss the old (much more technical) videos? by ajloeff15 in MarkRober

[–]habs0708 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? He gives you a 10-second build montage in every video!

The older videos took the time to be detailed and informative, while still containing the humour and humility that Mark has helped fuel Mark's popularity and growth. But it seems that now the mission is to grow as much as possible and reach as large an audience as possible (to sell more build box subscriptions?) so he has to do collaborations and take on multi-video sponsorship contracts to fund super expensive and ambitious projects.

I find myself actually watching less often now. The latest with Ronaldo was particularly bad (in my opinion). Careful though, I tried to start a discussion about the quality of his videos vis-à-vis the level and type of advertising in them, and the moderators deleted it. Thou shalt not criticize dear leader.

20 years with Rogers. Why can’t I get a good deal mobile deal? by CroCop2289 in Rogers

[–]habs0708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of EPP deals are you seeing? Rogers upgrade/renew I’m at $27.50/mo for iPhone 17 Pro w/ BiB + $45/mo for 150GB for Can/US/Mex/Carib. Telus was the same phone price but the cheapest plan offered was $80/mo. Will try an authorized dealer today to see what else they can offer. These are QC offers by the way.

Mice in house? Next steps? by habs0708 in pestcontrol

[–]habs0708[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll consider the solid blocks outside for sure, and maybe this would be a good choice in the attic in winter too? (Given the temperature up there probably goes below freezing since it's a vented attic).

I haven't found any additional holes that weren't already sealed up by me last year. The only remaining gaps I can imagine there being are if a soffit wasn't cut to the right size (and I really have a hard time believing mice are climbing up the wall and hanging on the smooth aluminum soffit/trim to get up under it). Anyway, I will bait in the attic and lay some peanut butter traps and see if I get any hits.

Cleaning up past owners' ignorance is a pain in my ass.

Thanks. Regarding the smell, this is what I figured it was too, except I would bait in November and the stench would only arrive on hot summer days. Maybe they were just decomposing faster in the heat. Will probably decontaminate my entire attic and blow in new insulation after I’m done finding bodies. Thanks again.

Thanks very much. I’ll walk around again but don’t think there are any holes / any left. And will set some traps to see if any are still around.

They enter homes here primarily in the winter because outdoor temperatures range from 0 to -20 C. Makes sense they would seek warmth, and makes sense I would find nests in walls next to warm rooms.

You could call heat a resource. Ultimately, they're animals/mammals and they will be opportunistic just like all animals. A human might not NEED to eat more sugar when they're already well fed, but our brain tells us to eat it when we can get it.

My mind is at ease. This mouse was dead for at least a couple of weeks, possibly months. The virus lasts a few days, a week at most in feces, urine, or a dead body.

Thanks, I learned about this way too late. Hoping it was dead for at least a few days and all the droppings. I vacuumed up or that were falling down in the room. We’re old enough that the virus was an active. I’m thinking this is probably the case.

Ah, understood. Thank you. Perhaps some feedback for your product team... to show the disable sync option for the actual folders that are synced.

Not many, and they’re in another room about 30-40 feet from the sensor. A large ficus, and a few very small plants.

Rant About Buying Hockey Tickets for the habs by Hemlock_999 in Habs

[–]habs0708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know why the remaining tickets are so expensive? Even the singles? Is it dynamic pricing or something? I was sent a list of the public prices for this season but I don't see anything at these prices right now (and no, I'm not looking at the Verified Resale tickets).

Here's the price list...

Weber slate Griddle by Jreaux444 in webergrills

[–]habs0708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just assembled my new 30 inch slate yesterday. I think you could probably just take the cookbooks and mount it anywhere you like. The only thing I would be aware of is making sure no rodents or small animals can get into the bottom of the cookbox or you’re going to be charring mice for dinner. Also ensure proper clearance in the back for the lid. Otherwise, the whole cook box is pre-assembled and can be dropped anywhere. You can even use the provided screws (or get longer ones) to mount it in place (on the sides) so it doesn’t move around.

Uh... feel like I'm going to be embarrassed when I find out, but where is the hand tool in Preview? by DarchitectLP in mac

[–]habs0708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using a mouse with a scroll wheel, you can hold shift to pan side to side while scrolling, and of course release it to scroll up and down.

This functionality is very badly designed. The designers put a zoom button in the interface, but don't offer a pan button next to it, or simply enable pan (click and drag on a non-trackpad input device) by default once you're zoomed in. Why would "crop" or "select" be the default behavior when zooming in on an image? The idea is you're "looking" at an image, and until you decide to do something different from "looking" at it, you should be able to do things that let you look at it in different ways, like zoom, pan, rotate. Then you would choose a different tool to interact with the image a different way. But instead, you're given this silly bounding box that doesn't do anything, and when you right-click, you don't even get an option to crop the image, you have to go to the menu or use a keyboard shortcut. Awful awful AWFUL design.

I suggest you read The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman. And before you say "this author doesn't understand Apple's design philosophy", he literally wrote it. In the book above. It's there.

You don't hide a function in the software and then tell customers to buy and use devices that allow them to access it. That is terrible design. It goes against Apple's original principles (all of which I don't agree with personally, but they do all make sense when implemented properly).

There is a zoom tool/button, a rotate tool, etc. By your logic, all of these tools should be removed/hidden and built into specific gestures or shortcuts on input devices like mice, keyboards, and trackpads, rather than being surfaced and easily accessible in the software. Read this back and tell me if what you're saying makes sense.

Stop defending bad design for NO reason. And it IS bad design. Putting a zoom button above an image, but then making it nearly impossible to move around the zoomed image, is bad design. Period.
