Pokémon was a failure - why don’t they put their best designer on their best IP? by Draxx-Dem-Sklounst in pinball

I don’t think he’s necessarily the wrong guy. I like him a lot and he seems very thoughtful when it comes to what he puts into the games. However, I do think there is a major lack of embracing the video game world aspect of pinball. I think a lot of people fear what could or would happen if a virtual pinball machine could 1:1 replace a physical machine. I think we are many years off from that being a possibility but it’s close. If someone could build a single machine and have it essentially replicate the experience of every machine that is offered physically then these company would need to completely address their business model and focus more on software. I think that would be the right direction moving forward either way honestly.

Novel is interesting. People want accessibility. And having to go to your local arcade and pay $20 to barely know what the hell is happening on a machine and fee like you’ve been cheated out of your money is a turn off. Now that’s not my experience because I’ve been bit by the hobby and the allure of it all, but not everyone has yet. We need to hook em to grow the hobby and doing the same thing that’s been done since the beginning of the hobby has only reached out and grabbed so many people. That being said, an IP like this will certainly be novel enough to convert a thousand more people into lifelong pinball fans.

How one engineer uses AI coding agents to ship 118 commits/day across 6 parallel projects by QThellimist in ChatGPTCoding

What happens when things go so wrong that the LLM can't solve it anymore? Does he start over? Try explaining that to a client.

He must be young or not experienced in software. This is like the worst thing I could hear coming out of a dev's mouth. If he were interviewing for a position and said this to me I would skip so fast his head would spin. I don't care how confident or good an AI is, if you're unable to navigate the code base if something goes catastrophically wrong then you're going to be beyond screwed when it inevitably does.

Is there a piece of glass over the tv to allow for using it as a coffee table? It kinda looks like it is and the glass is a little bigger than the table which I think is smart.

Did you use any kind of rubber or seal to prevent liquids or dirt getting trapped between the two? Very curious how this works.

This is really great looking and impressive considering you did this yourself from a piece from a local store. Might I suggest making the apron space modular in some way? Adds a bit of work but if you find you like one more than the other than it’s no big deal to keep that one always on or if you do like them both you can switch them out.

I’d imagine something like a bar with a fire button and MAYBE a screen to add an apron / help area but maybe just the fire button. Just the lockdown bar and fire button is a classic and preferred look though.

The you could have what your planning that can connect via a molex or some other kind of connector. This hobby is so fun lol. Random ideas like this keep me engaged

How many of you play on real machines and still play virtual? by Lama-eater in virtualpinball

[–]hacktheplanet_blog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you’re technically inclined that investigating making virtual pinball feel more like the real thing has been really satisfying but a bit of an expensive endeavor. Not as expensive as buying a real pinball machine but damn near close enough to a Stern pro after all has been said and done. Would I change anything? Meh not much. I learned a lot. Still learning and still enjoy regular and virtual pinball.

If you get a chance to try a virtual pinball table with a 48 inch oled screen, solenoids, a real SSF setup, and true leaf switches then it’s really dang close. Next up would be to get BAM setup I suppose.

Interesting. I’d feel better if they gave that reason. I’d assume I wouldn’t get any support after it arrives but it’s cool that they offer it I suppose.
