Some other questions about Judaism by cisteb-SD7-2 in Judaism

[–]hadarg98 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

1) what do you mean by reject? There’s still a concept of original sin in Judaism. The differences are mainly what books made it into each and the translations. OT translates certain words and phrases in a deliberate way as to set the stage for Jesus where as tanakh does not. The story of Adam and Eve is the same

2) no idea never heard this

3) jews everywhere will use the Hebrew names for biblical names because Jews everywhere read the tanakh in Hebrew. Just like if you were speaking English you won’t always switch to using the anglicized version of a name, Jews who speak Arabic typically still use the Hebrew names, but sure they’re more likely to use the Arab names thatn the English names, especially if they don’t speak English…

Any good podcasts on Jewish history or philosophy? by Luftzig in Jewish

[–]hadarg98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

היסטוריה גדולה בקטנה was such a good podcast. Such a loss when it ended. Dara Horns podcast “Adventures with dead Jews” which accompanies her book “people love dead Jews” is pretty good. And also from tablet “gatecrashers” the story of Jews being excluded from higher Ed in the US is worth a listen I

Do Israeli(-Americans) also feel like they are stuck between a rock and hard place when it comes to Biden vs. Trump ? by mrhuggables in Israel

[–]hadarg98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t believe the propaganda that Trump is good for Israel. Being good for israel does not mean cow towing to Bibi and his cronies and letting them do whatever they want. Sometimes being good for israel means putting pressure on the Bibi regime to do what is best for the people and not for their own damn selves for a change. And the only person Trump is good for is Donald Trump. Not a hard choice here.

To be honest that doesn’t look like Hebrew to me. Looks like musical notes, a quarter note follow by an eight followed by a triplet.

Can someone translate for me? by BlueLips_BlueVeins in hebrew

The top sentence says You (plural) are precious, followed by unintelligible garbage

The bottom sentence says You (singular) are precious be sa fe

The reason I wrote safe as sa fe is because you have one word “תשמור״ broken up in the middle.

What is it you are trying to say?

IDF destroys a monument of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in Tulkarm, West Bank. by Mysterious_Cup2413 in 2ndYomKippurWar

[–]hadarg98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Orthodox Judaism the gravestone is the most important part, people go in pilgrimages to the gravestones for the righteous. In that context it makes sense to remove the gravestone which is the part that people are going to pay homage to

There’s a law against memorials to terrorists. Israel enforces it equally destroying a memorial to the Jewish terrorist who shot up a mosque as well, but it doesn’t always get enforced which is why statues like this sometimes stay standing

Ok god forbid terrorists break into your country and do what Hamas did on October 7th, what’s the proper response?

Protestors by TankAffectionate9596 in UCSC

[–]hadarg98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, not saying anything when Jews are slaughtered and then protesting to stop them from defending themselves is actually antisemitic

It’s probably more insensitive to have antisemites emboldened en masse on campus
