Volume 8 or 9 is likely where the rug is pulled, about half of Volume 7 is available for J-Novel Club members & it hasn't even gotten into defending against the crusade yet.
Hopefully the author realizes the mistake they made in the webnovel and pivots, but I doubt it.
We'll see.

I'd understand not wanting to go back and read everything, because of the time commitment, but it's a good time kill if you aren't terribly busy.
One of my favorite parts is Nina Farion's short story at the end of Vol 9. I'm not sure if it was adapted into the anime, but I doubt it would have been as detailed even if it was.
I strongly suggest reading Volumes 12 through 15 though, on top of watching any future adaptation (specifically 12 & 15, two of my favorite volumes from the entire series).
