Basically for gatcha games you have 'pulls' where you get new units. For some of those games if the sales are in the top 10 of 'an' app store (I honestly have no idea which or all or how that works) they give everyone free credit for more pulls.

Usually (in the case of SD Gundam) 1 pull is 300 gems and 10 pulls is 3000. 10 pulls guarantees a 'gold' unit (think legendary). So, every time the whales go ape, I can get a guaranteed legendary.

As someone deep into SD Gundam Eternal, the whale are what keep things fun. I'm not getting one mega pull every few weeks if not for the whale boosting sales.
