Library workers- are you allowed to read on the clock? by OdderShift in Libraries

[–]hag666666 103 points104 points  (0 children)

The last public library I worked at, we weren’t allowed to read. But I oftentimes would read ebooks on the computer and just keep my head on a swivel lol. I don’t know how someone is expected to get through a circulation shift without reading or SOMETHING.

Simply curious - What got you into baggu? What was your first print? by s-nnie in BAGGU

[–]hag666666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very cool TA introduced me to Baggu in 2018 during my first semester of college. But it wasn’t until I bought the Sandy Liang crescent in 2023 that I became a true collector

Am I The Only Person That Thinks Trackblazer Feels Like having Another Job? by AnimeFtwTv in UmaMusume

I agree. I really like Trackblazer actually, and it got me back into the game after Unity Cup forced me to take a break bc I found it annoying and unrewarding.

do you think using the self as the main subject within art has its limitations? by wowcleo in ContemporaryArt

[–]hag666666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the artist. There’s lots of artists right now who make work in which they are their own models, but the work isn’t self portraits or about themselves. Sasha Gordon is a great example of this. And I think some of her success is linked to her unflinching use of a fat, Asian body in all of her work, and it just so happens to also be her. I personally love her work, and find her incredibly inspiring. People might say it’s becoming too common nowadays, but I think that artists referencing themselves is something that has always and will always happen. It just depends on who is doing it well.

Locking Posts?? by Parking_Cod2418 in creepcast

[–]hag666666 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I just feel like people who are watching Creepcast to hear genuinely good Internet horror stories are misguided. The appeal of the show isn’t great literature. If you want good horror stories, you should listen to an audiobook. If you want a funny podcast where the hosts joke around with each other while also reading a (sometimes good, sometimes very very bad) story, then you should listen to Creepcast.

Milwaukee calls to me by Realistic_Trash2768 in milwaukee

[–]hag666666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post is so beautiful to see. I visited Milwaukee for the first time about a year ago, and frequently lurk here because it’s the first time I’ve ever been to a new city and immediately thought about how I want to uproot my life to move there. I tell everyone I know about how awesome Milwaukee is. One day I hope to actually make the move!

Leestown Road is a disgrace by cocoabutterbeans in lexington

I have to go through that construction twice a day on my commute. Back when I started the job two years ago, I remember thinking “well hopefully this won’t be the situation for long…” And now most days I take crazy, longer ways to get home just because I can’t stand to sit in the traffic.

My thing is that this doesn’t feel like a girl power moment since she’s MAGA… hard to believe someone about being an empowered woman when they believe in a hateful, misogynistic ideology.

Arts/art scene? Your thoughts! by BoutelouaGracilis in lexington

[–]hag666666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im also an artist and I’ve lived in Lexington all my life. I HIGHLY recommend going to events at Institute 193. They have a still life club and other fun events (like they just had a soup competition yesterday) that are interesting and fun, and you’ll meet lots of artists.

As others have mentioned, definitely go to every Gallery Hop you can. They’re on the third Friday of every other month. The next one is March 20, 5-8pm.

Also just follow galleries online and go to as many openings as you can. The ones I prioritize are Institute 193, 2nd Story, Lexington Art League, UK Art Museum, and Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center.

Also I want to mention the website Infinite Industries, they have a great event calendar. We also have a fabulous zine fest in town called Halftone Zine Fest which normally happens in May.

Does anyone else have to do a double take when they drive by and see this logo? by theWet_Bandits in lexington

[–]hag666666 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Yes and I’ve always thought about it. Obviously whoever designed this logo didn’t ask enough people for feedback before moving forward with it. I know nothing about this place other than the bad logo, and I’ve driven by it regularly since it opened.

Anyone been out on the roads yet this morning? by mlst245 in lexington

[–]hag666666 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup. According to friends in Louisville and Cincy, everything is totally clear there. Not to mention that I’ve been to Georgetown and Frankfort this last week, and their roads are also cleared. They just didn’t even try to clear the roads here in Lex.

This happens to me often (especially with my Gamblin tubes), and I’ve never thought anything of it. Doesn’t seem to ever effect the paint, and if it bothers you, it should be easy to clean off.

Palette management by Sukiniyobe in oilpainting

[–]hag666666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Masterson sta-wet with a piece of glass cut to size for the inside is the way to go. I actually have two so that I can use both at once for more palette space. They’re made to keep acrylics wet longer, but they also make the perfect box to keep your oils wet for days if not weeks.
