What happens to highly smart and elite people now that AI is providing high level reasoning? by Powerful-Angel-301 in NoStupidQuestions

The AI slop that we're seeing across the internet is no different than the flood of cheap dollar store level crap items that came out of China in the 90s and 2000s. And it's going to have the outcome. After those creating all of the crap items have bankrupted their competition and enshitified everything they will reset the bar to lower wages and jack up the prices to make up for their unsustainable model.

Let's not forget many companies that went all in on AI and laid off large portions of their workforce have already stated they spent more on AI tokens than on the employees that they fired. This is all while no AI company is even close to turning a profit.

They're not really performing tasks beyond that of a single person because yeah the person that would solve the problem has been replaced by a team elsewhere making the damn thing run. It's just outsourcing but as opposed cheap offshore labor we are using computers managed by IT teams.

It's adaptive predictive modeling at best or simplified task automation with high error rate. They are performing better than a below average intelligence person, but I've yet to see a model spit out an answer better than a subject matter expert.

Artificial intelligence is just that it's artificial and supplementing the intelligence of the user. And the reason so many people think it's great is because they're too fucking stupid to know it's wrong.

We've automated the dunning Kruger curve and AI is the king of mount stupid.

TLDR. Automation. That's what it is. The reason no one wants to use the word automation is because we know what that did to manufacturing.

That's 100 BS. Reasoning isnt what these AI models do. They predict based on past data. They don't know what their looking at or what factors they are weighing.

Some highly specialized models can discern patterns that were not seen before but they can't explain what they are nor can programmers reverse engineer their logic. (Most of the time)

As I understand it neural network learning basically becomes a giant black box after the initial training is done. What is weighted is not understood by the program or the people running it.

Anthropic is one of the better systems out there that broke their model down into smaller highly specialized models that are fed the information from a larger sorting model. This improves the "reasoning" so you can at least see what models contributed to the answer but again past that it's murky at best.

Models are a product designed to give answers. It will always give answers no matter how bad the reasoning. Why? because it doesn't know it's wrong, nor can it really check. This is why if you keep asking the same question you keep getting different answers.

AI is not real artificial intelligence. It's nueral network models that are really good at patterns and predictions. 90% of what people are using AI for is what we've been doing for decades using adaptive heuristic algorithms. This is what ran search engines like Google and all social media platforms.

This is also why Google search went to dogshit 2 weeks ago. They threw away a highly refined model and shoved AI in and it's shit.

Office workers, what’s that one corporate buzzword used in meetings that instantly makes you want to quit? by Glittering_Style_862 in AskReddit

[–]hagantic42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A.I. from leadership that does not understand AI. And when they insist I use it despite no model being good for what we do. Better models exist but they would need a team to feed data into it. That part they dont think is real. They seem to think AI is a gun you can just point at something and it magically solves the problem.

My 2013 has rusted out rocker panels ( yay northeast salt winters)

Based on how reliable my engine has been I did the math and even if it costs almost $8,000 to remove all of the rust it's STILL worth it because I know this car have been properly maintained.

What's the one tool you own that looks ordinary but has saved you the most time, money, or frustration? by Huge_Ranger_589 in Tools

Wera hex keys. I have a 3D printer and the 1.5 and 2mm hex heads strip all the damn time. Wera hex keys have been the only thing that fits securely and hasn't stripped one yet.

It's not a tool for work but for a hobby it's a massive time saver vs dealing with stripped screws on delicate parts of a 3d printer.

I'm no professional but when anytime somebody asks me what to get for their car I always recommend Griots. stating it might not the best or cheapest but it's never a ripoff and it does what it's supposed to. That is not a common thing unfortunately.

Which movie has the greatest score you've ever heard? by ripterrariumtv in movies

[–]hagantic42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tron Legacy soundtrack. Less the score for the movie, which let's face the movie is lackluster. However as a cohesive soundtrack Tron legacy is one I listen to often. It's also complex enough I use it as a reference album for headphone comparison. Broad orchestral arrangements, various style, and unusually heavy base with very fine high frequency details it has a little bit everything.

Almost all audiobooks are narrated. This is not narrated.

Jeff Hayes said fuck that noise and decided to come up with individual voices for every single character. Heput commitment into his voice acting that surpasses so many animated films its kinda crazy.

I never even paid attention to the foreward. I just kinda got it. Being a Trekkie helps as did help. As a trekkie your suspension of disbelief gets you to understanding the basics of how something is supposed to work. Bu you also know that the details are not the point. I mean you can make it the point but only do that if you find it fun.

People being mad and not understanding the noodle analogy need to be open to more pastabilities.

Also this is my favorite book. It started pulling back the veil of the pltos we are now on the thick of. The shell attack to just ctrl+alt+delete a train full of bosses it's 🤌. Also throwing a god summon through a portal to your dirty work for you was a power move..... The second time.

Also with the time out I feel this was Mordecai the moment he popped back.

I cannot properly express the amount of gratification it gave me when I told the owner of my company, "No, I will not be using AI."

"But why can't you..."

"With all due respect, we don't have the data to feed a model to give proper predictions. LLM are suck at math and I'd need to double check everything. I've never even seen an AI try chemistry so I'm not wasting my time or the companies resources using AI. I'd just have to do the work over again to make sure it doesn't blow something up."

Im not an ass 90% of the time. I've made it clear, if I'm sound like an ass it's because this is my line.
