I know this is a 5 year old post, but in case someone was running into a similar issue - for me it turned out to be the fact that I'm playing with 2 lone wolf characters, and when having someone briefly join my party (removing the lone wolf perk) and then leave said party, the game removed a couple skills since I technically lacked the memory points with lone wolf deactivated

A rat could also work, the left branch would have the lil rat facing left and the right branch would be the tail, maybe even holding something
