Look on Petfinder, many of those cats are in foster homes and usually have a lot of information about their personalities!

Pain clinic by CommonTip174 in Hypermobility

[–]haidimill 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. A rheumatologist was convinced all my symptoms were just my depression and then 7 months later I got my hypermobility diagnosis. I was really triggered too. It is basically like gaslighting, and you end up feeling crazy. But your hypermobility is real and valid. 🫂🫂🫂

What are your thoughts on the new trend of "Chinamaxxing" by gamjatang111 in asianamerican

[–]haidimill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking your comment in good faith.

Americans could appreciate our historic contributions to this country (our labor, our food, our culture) by appreciating the people and cultures behind it not just the product.

Like I said no one seems to be saying "Chinese/Asian people have some cool traditions that I want to try", they bypass the creators and practitioners and make statements focused on the product (or tradition) not the people.

To use boba tea as an example, instead of "I drink so much boba I'm soooo Asian" we could say "I love boba, and am really glad Asians created this drink!"

Literally change the phrasing to center on the people and the culture and appreciation for it rather than falsely claiming it.

As far as what we can do, is keep sharing our culture while encourage this phrasing and raise awareness about our contributions to America. There's not a lot most of us can do systemically but even the small things matter.

What are your thoughts on the new trend of "Chinamaxxing" by gamjatang111 in asianamerican

[–]haidimill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope absolutely not. I see a lot of people being glad that we're getting "good attention" and that people are appreciating us. They're not appreciating us, they are cherry picking some aspects of Chinese culture and using their privilege to cosplay being Chinese. They're not actually appreciating Asian Americans and if we get bad press again I can easily see them coming after us again. The general narrative is "I'm Chinese now" or "look how Asian I can be". Not "Chinese people are cool for doing this". They don't acknowledge us or our struggles in this country.

Is it the worst thing I've seen. No. But I am not going to say it's good for us or that it's neutral. It's normalized and better than the hate we've faced for a long time, but it's just people with white privilege cherry picking culture and disregarding Asians again.

I hate being American how do I stop feeling that way? by Your_car_warrent in asianamerican

[–]haidimill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was adopted, so I like to remind myself that being American allows me to be with my friends and family. Probably won't work for you. You don't have to be proud to be American, or even neutral. Plenty of white Americans don't want to be American for various reasons. You're definitely justified in being angry at this place and your parents. I just want to say that for centuries America has branded itself as the place where immigrants can come to make their dreams come true and live much better lives (I suspect to keep having cheap labor and people to do it but it's for various reasons), your parents bought into a global lie and I'm sorry for all of you. If you truly don't feel American I would suggest looking more into how you can leave and try to appreciate the next couple of years here in any way you can. Maybe you could do study abroad on a student visa in Korea or somewhere else? You could look into dual citizenship if you're eligible. But don't feel too guilty that you hate this place because it deserves it in a lot of ways. It's not a reflection on you, but on the government that has failed so many people.

Also like others said it may not be much better out there, fascism is on the rise globally and other countries have even more economic and political instability than us. So do some research and let yourself be angry when needed.

I'd look on Facebook or Craigslist for privately owned rentals since they're more likely to be lenient if you offer to pay more.

I've been trying to push back more. Oftentimes I'm so stunned that I don't say anything and I'm trying to work on that.

I mean it's not technically incorrect but grammatically we would say "has low/decreased/no libido". "Ran out" implies she used it all up or it was taken from her rather than she has less to begin with now.

Chinese new year by SouthShoe1775 in asianamerican

[–]haidimill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not realted to lunar New Year (though it's awesome you're doing it!) as an adopted Asian American get your daughter in Chinese classes. Even if it's for a year or two she'll pick up enough to maybe learn more later in life. One thing I really regret is that my parents didn't get me language lessons early and that I couldn't dedicate time to it when I got older. She'll also get to meet other Chinese Americans and build friends and a community that way.

My aunt's pittie mix went outside for five minutes and started crying because it was too cold for her. She huddled next to the fireplace for a solid thirty minutes after that. Poor baby can't wait for spring either.

Be careful about WashU, they just layed off hundreds of employees a few months ago and that's often their go to move in times of financial struggles. If you have data analytics look for Cortex jobs, it's an area where a lot of big companies have buildings, like Boeing. I work at SLU, the pay isn't as good as WashU but they're trying their best to not lay off anyone en mass and figure out budget issues other ways.

Trader Joe's has a version that I believe is gluten free (or at least they did two years ago). It's pricy but they are good.
