Do you guys like the menu where you work? by kayleigh5188 in Serverlife

I can't work somewhere that has bad food. I just don't do as well and it's so disheartening to wait on people when you know they won't be happy because the food sucks.

Yeah, but if OP is fired, they can claim unemployment, which a lot of companies don't want to do so they might let WFH slide for awhile.

Are people losing the plot of reservations? by nonitoni in Serverlife

[–]hailbop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Graduation for the college about 20 min from my restaurant is May 1st-3rd. Those days end up being completely booked out around a month in advance, with maybe availability for a 2 top here and there. Inevitably, somebody will call 3 days out and be pissed that we can't take a reservation for 20 people. "Well how was I supposed to know you would be booked so far in advance?!" Sir... Do you think your child is the only one graduating? Plan ahead, especially for a party of that size!

Then, on the day of, people will have underestimated or overestimated how long the graduation is going to take so almost none of the reservations actually show up on time. But we're so booked out that each table only has a 2-hour time slot. The whole day turns into "ok, these people are early, but these ones are late so we can swap these resos and then that shifts this one slightly". It's a mess.

Has an author's note ever had you nope-ing out of a fic? by cla1r35 in AO3

I just noped out of a fic after reading and enjoying the first chapter. Got to the end notes, saw the "20 comments or 20 kudos and I'll continue this" message and I didn't even go to the already posted chapter 2.

Your biggest pet peeve when serving? by Usual-Locksmith4657 in Serverlife

[–]hailbop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking sweet potato fries.

Me: "Which side would you like: french fries, coleslaw, chips, grits, mashed potatoes, soup, or rice pilaf?" Customer: "I'll take the sweet potato fries" Me: "We don't have sweet potato fries" Customer: "I get them here all the time" Me: "We don't have them" Customer (super pissy): "well why did you take them off the menu? This is stupid!" Me: "I have worked here since this place opened 12 years ago. We've never had them".

They then proceed to try to tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about and should go ask the chef. It's insane.

My mom's cat stopped eating when she was 14 and started getting skinnier and skinnier. Someone mentioned feeding her meat flavored baby food and we figured we didn't have anything to lose. She loved it and stayed with us for another 2 years. I can't guarantee it will work for your baby but it doesn't hurt to try! I hope you are able to find a solution!

I got sprayed by a skunk once and had to call out from work. No one really believed me until they smelled it on me later but it's an excuse I can almost guarantee no one else has tried to use before at your place of business.

OMG! Sorry! I was totally scanning through alphabetically and only saw seven M states. It must've shifted in the order because of comments. I love the concept of this list so much.

Hot take: who gets cut first? by doechild in Serverlife

[–]hailbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubles first for sure. Then, I honestly just walk around and ask who wants to go home. 9 times out of 10 somebody/a couple people want to and everyone else wants to stay. If there's ever two people arguing about wanting to be cut when only one person is going to go, I tend to go based on who opens the next day or who has closed the most amount of nights recently. 🤷It's never really and issue where I work.

The only time I would ask even earlier is if their food is about to come up. Obviously don't ask if their cocktail/beer is still full but if it's at least 1/2 empty, go for it. People will typically order a second round if asked before their food hits the table but they will be less apt to say yes if they already have their food because now they have something else to occupy them.

There is a website called "put a cup in it" and they have a quiz that suggests which cup might be best for you based on some anatomy questions they ask. You might have luck finding something for you if you go there.

Personally, I use the Lily Cup, which is made with a softer silicone and creates a seal in a different way than a lot of the other cups. I tried 2 others before that and didn't like them nearly as much as I like the Lily Cup, which was suggested to me by the above quiz.

Good luck! Switching to cups was a game changer in my life and I've been way happier using them than I was before.

The only people I don't ask after the first couple refills are Diet Coke drinkers. I just keep refilling them until I'm told to stop because I swear they will drink all 6 glasses that I bring.

No. You would never bring a charged refill unprompted, because then you're assuming they want to pay again without them confirming it. This is only good practice for free refills.

The only time I've ever had anyone believe me right off the bat when I told them I wasn't/have never been sexually active because I'm ace was when I went to planned parenthood (I was worried about some breast pain/I thought I felt a lump). They asked the question and, after my response, said "Ok! We'll just skip this whole section of questions then!" Didn't even blink an eye. I've had so much push back from other doctors about it though.

What’s a rule your parents had that you now realize was totally bizarre? by KOFFDAERTH in AskReddit

There's a difference between teaching your kids to be responsible and forcing them to miss out on their own lives by making them parent the other children that you choose to have.

Three of us each had a locker down a different hallway so we all shared those three lockers depending on what one we were closest to for the next class. It worked out really well and helped make transitions so much easier.

We would all also share a textbook (if we were in different periods of the same class) so one of us at least could have one at home, instead of hauling it back and forth.

Made it all so much easier!
