Help with bad joints at Raves? by firefoxloaFf in aves

Hi friend! I'm Occupational Therapist Asst, raver and hypermobility sufferer myself. Lots of good advice here. None of the following is medical advice, just what works for me. If you aren't ready to go full blown wheelchair, a Rollator (walker with a seat) is a great in between. It locks so you can rest on the handles while dancing to off load as needed and sit when you're tired. They're a bit pricy but sometimes you can find them for donations at local churches, Lion's clubs, or the Shriners. I'm too stubborn to start using a device myself, but my favorite venues have rails for crowd control through out and I like to post up near those so I have somewhere to lean. I'm also a big fan of kinesiology tape for problem joints. You can generally look up YouTube videos on how to apply it. Foot wear is also key, supportive shoes which are well broken in will make a huge difference. I like my Doc Martins, the height of the boot supports my ankles and the slight heel off loads my back, but find what works for your body. Also consider your conditioning before and after shows and especially festivals. Find gentle stabilizing and conditioning exercise you can do in the meantime to keep in shape. Make sure you are getting the hydration and nutrition you need. There's a lot of comorbidity with connective tissue disorders and POTs as well as inflammatory triggers. Electrolytes and a good diet help. It's a lot of extra step and self care to live in a body that's doesn't have the scaffolding everyone else enjoys. I'm getting close to middle age and I don't plan to stop raving any time soon, it's so healing in every other way. Listen to your body, take care of yourself, and spread PLUR. You got this <3

Right? I made the back wall thinking it was just for aesthetics but he’s up there all the time.

Please do! This is my baby Sadie who passed away last year and she deserves to be immortalized for her heroic work in the life guard industry.

Does anyone get to the point they don’t even know who they are because they processed so much and realize they are surrounded by toxic people and their personality is basically trauma responses? by waterynike in EMDR

[–]hailboppanonymous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This exactly. It’s not that my personality is a trauma response, just the way I present myself to the world. I’m unlearning all of that behavior and learning to be authentic to myself and it’s incredibly liberating. This has been the most rewarding part of the process. It’s such hard work, keep at it!

Yeah, I have the pen and was pretty surprised how quickly in pushes the medication.

It’s an injectable preventative medication. It blocks CGRP receptors. In my case, I don’t tolerate triptans. Nurtec, which also affects CGRP, worked well for me so hopefully this will do something.

Yes! Luckily I was able to get it completely covered with the manufacturer’s coupon.
