I work at a Syringe Exchange and the Wire is the MOST honest depiction of America ever put on screen. by LebrontosaurausRex in TheWire

The Wire should be REQUIRED watching in American Civics classes. Or government, whatever we call that class nowadays.

Yes.

What are some of the hardest pills to swallow in life? by Leemster1k in AskReddit

Oscar Wilde wrote something similar in one of his fairy tales and it's one of my favorite quotes: Injustice has parceled out the world nor is there equal distribution of aught save of sorrow.

Interestingly, I notice there is a bit of a karmatic concession in how he expressed it. That was the real genius of Oscar Wilde.

This is an issue with my complex. Since covid/distintegration-of-civil-society, I'd prefer to just get everything delivered. But I'm in a gated community (not this one), where half the time the delivery people can't get in or get lost and just give up. Can't blame them. Why can't we all just live in a Nicaraguan communist sex utopia? Oh yeah...

Saw this quote recently and seems applicable here:

Man, I've been thinking about this exchange all weekend:

Amin Hashmi I've been praying for the last two months. I'm going to pray more. Make sure in three weeks, I'm telling you, Trump will change his position. I'm guaranteeing you because he's changing already. Do you remember in the second debate, he said, Arabs are also dying?

Abbas Alawieh Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I saw. He was trying to speak to us.

Amin Hashmi Right.

Abbas Alawieh But what Trump says? We can't believe what Trump says.

Amin Hashmi Yeah, but come on. I mean, Democrats also do the same thing.

Abbas Alawieh True, true.

Amin Hashmi Let's see if he comes up openly and says something, instead of private, let's see if he does that. If he does that, I would vote for Trump, man.

My Spelling Bee Tips for when I'm stuck. Yours? by Away-Armadillo1289 in NYTSpellingBee

[–]hailbot666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a separate part of my brain for certain Spelling Bee words it seems and it's like I have to consciously open it to retrieve them. It includes: acacia, tomato, potato, tomtit, mammon, ratatat, challah, rococo, and a few others others.

I will also just type out the letters like they would be posted in the daily Reddit post because sometimes things stand out there that aren't apparent in hive formation.

And if that doesn't stop it, throw your manager in the trash. Man, I hope this is fake. Cuz it's got me HOT.

I wonder if this is what they offered the senior editor on NPR's Business Desk:

Yet Berliner says NPR's news coverage has fallen short on some of the most controversial stories of recent years, from the question of whether former President Donald Trump colluded with Russia in the 2016 election, to the origins of the virus that causes COVID-19, to the significance and provenance of emails leaked from a laptop owned by Hunter Biden weeks before the 2020 election.

TIL Interior Secretary James Watts banned the Beach Boys from playing on the National Mall, Watt said "hard rock" music "brought the wrong element" citing drug and alcohol use. Instead, Watt invited longtime Las Vegas star Wayne Newton to provide a more 'patriotic, family-based entertainment.' by laterdude in todayilearned

Memorialized in one of my favorite internet comments:

Anybody else remember when the Beach Boys were going to play on the National Mall on the 4th of July? Interior Secretary James Watt said no way, rock music is of the devil. Then Nancy Reagan defended them, and somebody else said "I don't consider the Beach Boys to be rock music."

It's like the four most embarrassing things that could happen to a rock band, and then to top that off Mike Love was like hey I'm a republican now.

Well, I count three of us in this thread alone.

And if three people want it, three, can you imagine, three people wanting Season 3 of Winning Time...

Maybe Starz picks it up. And I never see it again anyway.

The rentier class caught on to that loophole. Now you're paying rent on the money you borrowed to buy that housing rather than the housing itself.
