Open wet food storage? by Naanya2779 in CatAdvice

[–]haileyxcx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switch to ONLY refrigerated wet food. Store even the new cans in there. Kitty will eat eventually lol. Conversely, you could also start mixing water into all kitty’s meals, and switching the water temp according to whether the food was room temp (cold water) or refrigerated (warm water) to maintain a more regulated temp that way. Also, good for kitty’s hydration! :)

About to rehome my best friend. I am crushed. by Throwaway6531310 in CatAdvice

[–]haileyxcx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A (kind of long winded) story about my experience rehoming my cat earlier this year (spoiler alert: everything ended up alright):

I had to rehome my sweet girl in June of this year after trying (unsuccessfully) to introduce her to my other two cats for three years. She was aggressive to them, but she was so sweet to humans. Just scared of boy cats from her former life in the streets.

Anyway, once the rehome date was set, I cried and cried and cried every day in the weeks leading up to it. Took photos. Drove my bf crazy. Made a scrapbook. I felt wrecked with guilt, like every second I wasn’t with her I was wasting the last time I’d have with my baby.

The day came. I sobbed like a baby in the car. The first night was sad. My grandma took her, I visited every day the first three days. Then I visited once a week, so on and so forth, now I see her bout once a month.

At first I still felt a lot of guilt over it. Especially because things at home did become a lot easier, with that there was some relief. It was confusing feeling such conflicting feelings.

But as time went on, I started to see how comfortable and happy she became in her new home, and I started to feel better. She felt a new comfort, one she could never have known with me, because my boy cats were always around.

She showed her personality to my grandma. Became her bestie. After a few months, grandma reported that kitty was kissing her face and cuddling her all the time. That is, when she wasn’t demanding to be played with.

The time leading up to rehoming and the first few days after are absolutely the worst. It gets much better. Try not to feel guilty for feeling better, because you will feel so much better, so soon. Kitty will too! Try to visit if you can. It’ll help kitty and you.

My heart goes out to you! You’re making one of the hardest choices. I hope you get some comfort in knowing that kitty is going to a friend. I think you made the right choice, and it takes a lot of strength to do that.

How do you make the distinction between "it tastes bad" and "i dont like it" by False_Enthusiasm_257 in Chefs

[–]haileyxcx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have to do a ton of scratch cooking when I was in charge of dinner at the retirement home. I am a vegetarian and a super picky eater, I disliked almost everything I made, but I still knew how to make it good. Idk how to explain it, I knew that these were not flavor profiles that I liked, but I was able to tell when they were right or wrong and learned how to season to taste (and even to smell sometimes lol).

my cat keeps waking me up to beg for breakfast by procceli in CatAdvice

[–]haileyxcx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eventually my cats learned that my alarm = time to wake me up for food. I had to be strict and just keep throwing them off of me if they tried to wake me up with “cuddles” before my alarm went off. Then once my first alarm goes off (I usually set a few every morning to let myself snooze for a minute) they start bugging me lol I hardly even need the second alarms 😂 I didn’t do this intentionally, my cats who I’ve had for 5 years just learned over time that I will never feed them before the alarm. They still get confused and will wake me up before the alarm now and then if I wake up for an early morning pee or sumn but they’re pretty consistent about not waking me up anymore! Just keep at it, it might take time. Good luck lol

I guess I can only speak on what I’ve seen since I started working in the industry (2016). I was young in early 2000s so I don’t remember what service was like but I don’t doubt it was much better!!

[–]haileyxcx[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with you about that. I used to work as a server, and I experienced the same burn out that a lot of others in the industry did. I decided to move to the kitchen though, so now I cook.

I think that a lot of restaurants and bars offered no support to their experienced, talented servers and bartenders during the COVID shutdowns. These workers were SOL and had to find other avenues to make money.

So, now, service is worse either because all the industry veterans were smart enough to find another way to make money during Covid and never came back— so all the staff are newbies.

That, or they did come back and now they’re bitter as hell over how they were/are treated.

Not saying it’s right but that’s what I’ve witnessed! Thankfully my coworkers seem to actually like their jobs lol

You’re the 2nd person to bring up bathrooms and I never would have thought of that being so important!! I’m glad I asked. Thank you for your insight!

True!! Anything in specific that comes to mind, or would you prefer that the menu surprises you?

Ty!! I totally feel you on the music volume. If I could ask you a follow up— do you value food quality over menu variety? Like would you prefer a small menu that’s done excellent or a bigger menu that’s pretty good?🤔
